Maybe it's the pendant with the moon and the little sun or the coloring of the bottle or its shape, which reminds me of a big bow - in any case, the first pictures of the bottle made me think of Sailor Moon! Especially the Eternal outfit with its yellow and pink skirt (not the elegant white Queen Serenity!)
Okay enough 90s TV memories... Lalique herself describes the fragrance as "[...] a free-spirited child of the sun, moved by the rhythm of the sun and moon [...] - asserting herself as the master of her own destiny." - hey but Sailor Moon...
Soleil Lunar starts extremely fruity with a super ripe, sweet mandarin/orange. I'm still looking for pepper and I'm already tempted to get the disappointment out of the drawer because it threatens to become another sugar lemonade thing, but let's wait and see...
On the product page, the fragrance is so beautifully described as "embracing the sun, seamlessly transitioning into the realm of night as the moon takes its place in the sky" and this characterizes the rest of the fragrance perfectly. The warm, fruity start, which is borderline sweet for my taste, gradually fades like the sunset. The fruit salad has called it a day, but a few mandarins are still rolling around in the background and can't quite separate. The transition to the aforementioned night should not be interpreted as "cool/dark" but rather as "calm/relaxed".
On my skin, a very beautiful musky spectacle in the best Narciso style begins. Add to that a good scoop of amber, cozy warmth guaranteed. As the willing reader of some of my other reviews will have noticed, I am not a big fan of vanilla. So it's all the more surprising that my vanilla-phobic olfactory bulb doesn't respond to heliotrope (aka vanilla plant) or Queen of the Night (I'll guess: vanilla!) and sounds the alarm. I feel rather reminded of
Izia, although the pyramids are completely different... NOW it could still be something with us, dear Soleil Lunar! The longer I have it on my skin, the more I like it.
Soleil Lunar leaves me a little confused. Is this a fruity summer fragrance (opening) or rather something for fall/winter (cuddly musk)? Does it want to be young-girly (opening) or feminine-adult (drydown)? To me, it comes across as contradictory - but maybe that's just a subjective thing and there are plenty of wearers here for whom that's not a problem. Due to the - for my taste - too sweet opening, it's just not enough for a solid 7.
I find the sillage well socially acceptable, depending on the dosage quite perceptible - especially at the beginning! I also think that the longevity is completely normal, not an airy scent but also not a fragrance that you have to amputate body parts to get rid of. And the bottle, well, it's a little kitschy dream ;)
Moonstone, fly and win!
