Funky Bouquet
It's hard to believe Lanvin discontinued Arpege, one of the oldest and best loved perfumes on the market. It's as if France had discontinued Paris. I have three bottle of Eau Arpege: one from the early 1960s and two that probably date from the 1980s; each has its discrete charms. Here you have the classic formula of a modern French perfume: aldehydes, jasmine, mai rose, ylang, ambergris, civet musk...Chanel No. 5 is crisper and more elegant and modern, but Arpege is warmer and more romantic. Guess it fell out of favor now that young girls all smell like Hawaiian Punch.

Irrevocably Gone
How I loved this scent!

A little over forty years ago, I remember it well because it was shortly before my wedding, I entered a small perfumery at my university town and habitually asked for "something fresh." The owner looked at me and decided: "That's not you!" I had previously worn all the Eaux from the famous manufacturers, fresh, sporty, green. How the lady knew that I hated sports, I do not know...
She sprayed some Eau Arpège on my wrist and looked at me expectantly. In the fragrance-laden air of the perfumery, I didn't smell much. She smiled at me motherly: "Go outside first. Wait. I'm sure Eau Arpège is your scent."
Hours later, in the warm room, I perceived it: soft, floral, lightly woody. I could hardly wait to return to the perfumery and verify my impression. Buying perfume was a serious matter for me back then, and I always thought long about it. With Arpège, I was sure: The search was over. I had found my scent: fruity at the start, maybe peach?, aldehydes, then later delicately floral. Present, yet restrained. Without sweetness - or was there just a tiny bit of honey? Or the scent of hay?
Eau Arpège remained my scent until its reformulation a few years later.

Herb-floral elegance in a classic style, without any sweetness - initially a bit aloof, then a beautiful green chypre note unfolds.

One of the most perfect classics. It's so classic-aldehydic-floral with a Chypre touch that it feels modern again.

A rather subtle Chypre on me. In an elegant and very refined way, it's "everyday suitable."

More spicy than floral Chypre with powdery notes. Nice, but a bit faint. Maybe due to age.

Elegant and old-school. Floral aldehyde bomb in Chypre style. The eau is a bit muskier in the base. For lovers!

After an aldehydic storm, a lot of retro spice in a sea of flowers. A bitter floral chypre, more spicy than floral. In the dry down warm + soft. Elegant.

Rose geranium leads the magnificent floral parade. It lingers beautifully throughout. Retro Chypre - Eau at its finest.

Velvety spice, powerful floral blend, powdery fine fruits. Aldehydes add a vintage touch. Wood and "earth" in the base. Fantastic!!
