Feminine oud.
Okay, yes, I do like this oud. It is gentle, feminine, perhaps ultra-feminine, like the Thai ladyboy at Emporium who insisted that madame should try this. The rose is here, too, but hidden behind the chamomile. This is how it displays in the opening, but with the time, the oud becomes more prominent, although it never imposes its masculinity.  The oud is there just as a shadow, a suggestion for the sweet, silky flowers. I like it, though not the price. However, considering how long (12+ hours!) those few drops lasted on my wrist, I shouldn't complain. I like it, but still a bit too sweet, like most of the Kurkdjian DNA.

Okay, da, acest oud imi place. Este gingas, feminin, poate ultra-feminin as spune, la fel ca si acel ladyboy Tailandez care a insistat ca Madame sa-l aplice. Trandafirul e si el acolo, dar pitit in spatele musetelului.

The sourness of toner ink or photo drying chemicals
Oud Silk Mood is the only weak link in the truly excellent Oud Moods series and the only one I can't wear without wanting to scrub it off. I've tried several times now to locate the soul of this fragrance but I think I'm about ready to call off the search party.

A signature of the Oud Mood series is the use of unconventional (and kind of ugly or confrontational) accords suggestive of metal, architecture, dust, rubber, or smoke to upholster the rich Laotian oud Kurkdijan uses, but whereas in Velvet and Cashmere Oud Mood these odd notes imbue the perfumes with a funny sort of humanity, in Oud Silk Mood, the quasi-industrial note of photo-developing chemicals just bathes an already sharp, sour rose in an acid bath that does it no good at all.

The acidulated rose and the oud compete with each other for the title of 'most sour', while chamomile lops in a hefty dose of herbaceous bitterness, making things worse. Underneath it all, papyrus adds a dry, papery crackle that really does create a silk-like texture - not the softness of silk but the rustling sound it makes when you rub it between your fingers. High-pitched and brittle, it feels like the fragrance would snap if you could fold it over.

Worse than the drone-strike of sour, though, is the chemical hangover every time I wear it. I don't know if it's synthetic oud or another woody ambery material, but whatever it is proves to bother my nose for hours on end, even when I think I've washed it off. In its unabashedly synthetic character, Oud Silk Mood is too similar to the lower-priced niche options for me to recommend it, and too inferior to the original Oud or even the Cashmere, Satin, and Velvet options for me to ever consider buying even a decant or further sample.

1, 2 OR 3…
…whether you are really in the right place, you will see...

I felt similarly when I looked at my shopping cart on MFK. OUD, OUD SATIN MOOD, and SILK MOOD. What now!? Should I place a paid order? I wish the light would turn on right now!

Alright, back to the beginning and analyze the fragrance reviews on the web! The majority clearly prefers Satin Mood followed by Oud. Bringing up the rear is Silk Mood. Got it, I’ll go with the majority!

Not so fast! In the end, I decided on a Discovery Set (MFK - OUD Fragrance Wardrobe). The set is not exactly a bargain at around 200 euros, but whatever, at least I found my inner peace.

And lo and behold, the underdog mentioned in the reviews, Oud Silk Mood, has become my personal favorite.

Silk Mood is a rose oud fragrance, no question about it, but it impresses me especially with its very fresh-spicy and even slightly citrus character. This makes it, in my opinion, a bit more vibrant and suitable for everyday wear. It doesn’t lose its elegance because of this. Furthermore, I can very well imagine wearing Silk Mood all year round. Winner!

Oud: It’s a dream of a fragrance! Warm-spicy and woody, with notes of tobacco and leather. Thus, it’s suitable for the colder season and my personal number 2.

Satin Mood: A fantastic warm and spicy fragrance, but a bit too sweet for my taste due to the vanilla. Otherwise, it has a certain similarity to Oud. Bronze medal.

The fact is, the Oud collection from MFK is luxurious and unique. All 3 fragrances are beautifully crafted. The Oud DNA of the 3 fragrances is identical and initially slightly medicinal.

Conclusion: 1, 2 AND 3!

Soothing in the Wrong Sense.
I think I speak for everyone when I say that our everyday life and our habits as well as routines are currently subject to strong restrictions and, above all, changes. Short-time work, fewer social contacts, hobbies that are temporarily put on hold, older family members whom you call every day to prevent them from feeling too lonely, and so on and so forth ...
As for me as a student, I can say that I am currently very glad to be living at home at almost 25 years old - even though I regularly curse it a bit - not having to worry about rent payments or a potentially collapsing existence. However, I am still not deeply relaxed. I see how some classmates who no longer live at home cannot sleep well at night (many have part-time jobs and were the first to be laid off), writing term papers is currently a struggle due to closed libraries (but somehow it gets done), and whether the summer semester, which is planned as a purely online semester (with 20,000-30,000 students), will really work is still uncertain. So, something is needed that can help calm you down a bit from time to time. While some of my fellow students may turn to alcohol (yes, clichés and all that), I prefer to reach for olfactory wonders. "Oud Silk Mood" seemed to be a good choice when looking at the fragrance pyramid, especially since chamomile, which is said to have a calming effect, raised my expectations.

"Oud Silk Mood" generally presents itself more gently than the heavy, very sweet, and simply too cloying "Oud Satin Mood" for most situations. However, a gentler appearance refers only to the scent character, not to the sillage, which is also quite powerful throughout much of the fragrance's development, albeit more socially acceptable, as it does not wield the vanilla and violet club.
Upon first spray, I am greeted by an absolutely unsweetened, very mature, but for me almost too old-fashioned rose. This rose is exceptionally clean - similar to "Lyric Man" - but initially feels far too watery and soapy for me. Rose water or rose soap is simply not my thing, even though I generally enjoy the scent of the flower behind it. But since I am sitting at home in front of my laptop, desperately browsing my university's online library and not having to be around people, I have enough time to focus on the fragrance development even more than usual.
The initially very loud rose is quickly tamed a bit by the chamomile and loses the rose water character that bothers me. The oud is also present, but - and this is typical for Kurkdjian - it appears very restrained and mass-compatible. There is nothing animalic, medicinal, or bitter about it. It simply smells dry-woody, quite unremarkable - almost boring. The chamomile could definitely come through a bit stronger, but unfortunately, it does not. I unfortunately do not perceive any papyrus at all. And that’s about it for the fragrance development, which can be briefly described with the adjective "boring".
"Oud Silk Mood" has an exceptionally promising fragrance pyramid, but - and this becomes particularly clear here - reality and fragrance pyramid are two different pairs of shoes. The chamomile is there - yes, it is. But the dosage here is a joke. Papyrus? Uh… where exactly?

In the end, the composition is merely, without meaning to be harsh, one of those inflationarily launched rose-oud/wood combinations that have now lost all their appeal. They all smell quite similar, are interchangeable, not special at all, and yet often ridiculously expensive. Soothing, especially in the current situation we all find ourselves in, it is somewhat, but only because it is suitable for falling asleep. Mr. Kurkdjian has more interesting things in his portfolio.

Luck in Misfortune
I wanted to treat myself to Oud Satin Mood for Christmas after years of consideration and could hardly wait to hold the bottle in my hands. Without paying much attention to the packaging, I tore it open only to realize: Oops, I accidentally ordered Oud Silk Mood. Oh no, I thought, I've tried that one before and I don't like it. At the retailer, I couldn't return the item after the package was opened. After I had gone through all the stages of grief and anger at myself, I thought, okay, now we both have to get along for this money. And lo and behold - after several wearing attempts and layering experiments, I have come to love Silk Mood. I find it, unlike Satin Mood, more wearable even outside of winter, maybe not exactly in the peak of summer, but by far more subtle than the Satin Mood whip. The rose is super pleasant, a bit citrusy in the opening, and for me, it's an everyday companion that always fits in the right dosage - which is by no means to say that it is boring - the scent smells of luxury, but unlike Satin Mood, it is less intrusive, rather pleasantly subtle, everyday luxury. In combination, for example, with Baccarat Rouge, it's also suitable for the red carpet - not that I've ever been on one, but for those who are, it's a good tip ;)

A sour/“tangy” oud with a heavy floral component. Smells oddly bright for an oud fragrance. The rose registers more as green rather than jammy.

Moderate rose/citrus opening, blends with oud and green accords in drydown. More versatile than it's given credit IMO. Better than Extrait.

Smoky, strident, rose and oud which smells like it has ammonia in it. Headache inducing. Hard pass for me.

A fresh and slightly green, powdery spicy-floral Spring fragrance, balanced by a gentle dusty dry-woody base. Brighter than Oud Satin Mood.

Fixes all of the original Satin moods problems: Gets rid of that funk and odd fruity note and becomes a more smooth, wearable Oud rose 10/10

The opening is quite harsh and a bit blue but it dries down to a powdery floral-wood scent with a smokey backbone that smells more natural.

Beautiful interpretation of Bulgarian rose, Oud Satin Mood’s wearable everyday cousin.

Is it a fresh oud fragrance or a woody-rosy scent? Either way it opens with an invigorating note and smells elegant on the drydown

Classy. However, the opening is sharp and heady (I don’t do well with oud).

Fresh rose-oud
Soapy-clean & silky-soft
Pleasantly airy aura
Not as loud as oriental versions
But synthetic & too smooth
