There was once a man who loved to crack his whip
He preferred to do this in exotic places, especially among many people
He always made people scream and everyone wanted to grab him
He was also dressed in leather, but certainly didn't smell of cedar
...
All right, the rhyme is certainly not the best, but you dirty bastards must be thinking of something naughty, aren't you? Sure, I'm talking about leather, whips and screaming... But we're talking about... Indiana Jones!!! Ha! You didn't expect that, did you? But how did I come up with him?
Well, please, you know I like things like Star Wars, Batman and Indiana Jones! What else should I think of when the word "Petra" appears in the fragrance name? And the fragrance is also from a series called "Trade Route Collection"? Petra is not a woman's name here, but this ancient rock city in Jordan where, according to the movie, the 700-year-old knight with the Holy Grail is waiting for you :D
You don't believe that? Recently, a tomb was actually discovered in Petra where a chalice was even unearthed that looks extremely similar to the chalice in the movie! Well? NA? If that's not a reason to watch "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" now, hey hey :D
In any case, the Trade Route Collection, of which I am describing the Legacy of Petra fragrance here, was inspired by the goods from the Silk Road that were then traded mainly in the London docks. According to the manufacturer's description, the rock city of Petra is about rocks and mountains that are warmed by the rising sun. Oh and Indiana Jones is unfortunately not mentioned at all... *sigh* :DD
But let's get to the scent!
The fragrance:
The fragrance begins sweetly spicy with a gentle and soft background. You can clearly smell fennel, dark sweet licorice and myrrh. In the background I smell rosy-floral notes, could that be rockrose? To be honest, I don't even know what rockrose is or what it smells like :D
A little later, the scent remains spicy and sweet, as well as soft due to the resins. I also notice a tea-like scent, namely tea that has been flavored with fennel like some of my friends here do with black tea. This scent is very faint, but you can smell it if you smell it very close to your skin. The sweet notes smell like amber, which is perhaps this "belambre", if that has anything to do with amber. The liquorice becomes weaker and weaker as the fragrance progresses and is gradually replaced by resinous and sweeter notes.
In the end, the fragrance smells mainly sweet with resinous notes, but above all vanilla. This is okay, but I find that the ending is a little less spectacular, as it smells nice, but like many other vanilla fragrances.
The sillage and the longevity:
The radiance is good, but not as strong as you might think. Nevertheless, you will easily be noticed. The longevity is easily 10 hours, but for a large part of this time you can almost only smell myrrh and vanilla.
The bottle:
The bottle is cylindrical and filled with an amber-colored fragrance liquid. On the front you can see a beautiful label with a pattern in the style of a mosaic picture. As always, the brand name and fragrance name can be seen on the label. The lid consists of a cylinder at the bottom and a sphere at the top. In contrast to most Penhaligon's fragrances, the lid doesn't have a bow this time, instead a cord has been wrapped around it that ends in a tassel. This is also nice, but I personally like the bows better. Nevertheless, all in all a beautiful bottle.
Conclusion:
Hm, okay, so I don't really know whether this collection was inspired more by the ancient places of the time or by the goods from these places, but with the rock city of Petra as inspiration, I was also expecting rocky or at least mineral notes. Well, even if these scents are not present, the fragrance is by no means a disappointment, because it smells quite nice with its spicy-resinous and sweet scents, provided you like this scent.
In terms of seasons, the fragrance clearly belongs in the fall and winter. It may not start out heavy, but the end could be overwhelming on warmer days, at least if you overdose. Otherwise, I think you could use it both during the day and for going out, although it's obviously not a party fragrance.
The fragrance is not a must-have for me now... although... the name does mention "Petra" and that always makes me think of Indiana Jones... oh no... I'd rather get the golden idol from the first movie and maybe the Sankara stones from the second movie, he he... uff... what you always spend money on, apart from that you probably have no idea what I'm talking about, do you?... :DD
Anyway, that's it again for today. I wish you all a nice evening, see you :)
