Less is more
Fresh, cool, slightly damp wood. Natural and urban. Melancholic and robust. For breathing and dressing. Reminds me of Paul Schütze's 'Behind the rain', but less green, less dark, less synthetic. A slightly brighter version. Without sourness. Essentially a mineral-woody scent, permeated by the elements, like a gray dry stone on which the last water remnants silently evaporate, complemented by a wonderfully aromatic pine-cypress ether with - almost soft - green nuances. This uniqueness is further enhanced by a subtly used incense that gives it depth and a touch of mystery. Just like the somewhat sweeter resins myrrh and elemi, which increase wearability with this quality. Everything is incredibly finely tuned, wonderfully restrained without being shy. Radiating a worship-worthy lightness despite its seriousness. An effortless elegance. This composition comes close to Giacobetti's transparent-sensitive masterpieces like 'En Passant' or 'L'Original'. Lyn Harris' less is more style of absolute calmness, simplicity, and lightness, as well as the so soothing renunciation of popular, modern, eternally lasting, and often unpleasantly smelling synthetic components in the drydown, is showcased here par excellence. More expressive due to the "heavyweight" ingredients than much of her still relatively young brand. And yet, I can't imagine that this idea can be composed more effortlessly. For me, one of her best works.
