Absolutely Lives Up To Its Name...
Impossible Iris opens with a considerable amount of ylang-ylang before almost immediately transitioning to its iris heart. The iris here is not as powdery or as waxy as one might expect, but instead you get the true nature of the iris in all its glory with just the right amount of slightly soapy powder. The iris is well-supported by prominent jasmine and just the slightest amounts of raspberry and mimose balancing the composition with an almost hidden cedar in the base. Projection is average and longevity is excellent.

I am not a big fan of iris compositions in general, so I went into smelling Impossible Iris on skin with very low expectations... It would apparently be near-impossible for me to truly enjoy just about any iris composition, but I can definitely vouch for the scent's name being legit as I absolutely love Impossible Iris! Monegal achieves the unthinkable in letting the iris come through unobscured by the usual characters, while complimenting it rather brilliantly with just the right amount of jasmine and raspberry to let the iris shine while underpinning it with just the right support. The cedar in the scent is hidden so well that I really have to concentrate to smell it, and frequently just enjoy the iris without thinking about it being there at all. Finally an iris composition I really want to buy, earning an excellent 4 stars out of 5... An "Impossible Iris" indeed!

Very subtle soapy iris
The third monegal perfume that i try and again... One of the BEST iris perfume that i have ever tried. It is true that i orefer other kind of mixings with the iris like the one un Dior homme ir in gentleman by givenchy, but comparing yo other similar perfumes this one is very very good.
The smell is very soapy, the opening is even similar to Chanel n°5, i supose because if the ylang ylang. Although It doenst appear un the notes List, i think It should have aldehides or something similar because of the soapy and airy feeling It gives. Impossible iris is very close to iris poudree by Frederic Malle, but a bit softer and less aldehidic. The iris here is very powdery and delicate. I dont get the Raspberry but It has something sweet un the back which is very subtle.
The performance is not bad for this kind of smell. It has a good longevity (6-8hoirs) and the sillage is very moderate. It keeps close to the skin but is noticeable in intermitent trails during most of his Life. Very versatile scent good for day time

A unique take on iris - beautiful and slightly strange
Have you ever eaten a raspberry crème brulee? By some weird quirk of culinary alchemy, the vanilla custard and the raspberry transmute each other into something completely different from their normal selves - the custard loses its bland sweetness and takes on the sharp fruitiness of the berry, while the berry has its raspberry identity completely sanded down, leaving only a bright, citric fleshiness in its place. The end result tastes nothing like custard or raspberry, but is a completely new taste born from their union.

Something similar happens in Impossible Iris. The custardy, plasticky ylang and the bright, sour raspberry mix with a cool, powdered suede iris, and the result smells nothing like either one of the original ingredients to the pot. True, there is a distinctly moist fruit note, but it is more the blue-green shimmer of a wet raspberry leaf than the vulva-pink flesh of the berry itself. The ylang divests itself of its usual steamy, banana-like nuances, and combined with the rooty tones of the iris, blows up the hairspray and plastic hairnet side of its personality.

The iris, slicked in these juices, takes on a aerosol tone, like the fresh emission from a can of suede boot cleaner or furniture polish. Somehow, it emerges from the fruit, mimosa, and ylang as a wholly new creature, wobbly on its legs, but utterly beautiful.

Suitable as a signature scent
It is indeed possible to label the fragrance as unisex. Whether it makes sense is another question. I can't really imagine it on a man either.

The fruity nuances that are said to be present in Impossible Iris are not recognizable to me. However, this is not a drawback for me; on the contrary. The fragrance radiates a charming calm cheerfulness. The iris, which is at the center here, is powdery but not dry and can hold its own against the floral notes without dominating. And the note that Tarata describes as buttery, I can recognize, but I would rather call it creamy. I also find it pleasant that the base does not become sweeter with this fragrance. I have rarely experienced cedar as delicately as here.

The result is a bright, soft scent that could certainly serve as a signature fragrance. Not too loud, not veering into any extremes, suitable for both the office and going out, and actually not tied to any season. This may sound boring, but it is not at all, as Impossible Iris has a distinct recognizability. I think that anyone who wears this perfume will leave a positive impression in the memory of others.

Impossible Iris is by far the finest of the Ramon Monegal fragrances I have tested so far.

Sexy Iris
Why I only received a sample of Ramon Monegal's "Impossible Iris" after explicitly requesting a monothematic iris fragrance, I do not know - but it undeniably has its advantages: I can test the scent without time pressure and get familiar with it repeatedly. Above all, I avoid being dazzled by a possibly particularly successful top note, which is then followed by dull boredom.

Of course, this Impossible Iris is once again one of those fragrances that drive my testicles into a rage (see my comment on Sel de Vetiver). This time, "girl's crap" is still the most harmless of the crude comments they bestow upon the scent. The occasional threat of a strike is also made. I can't completely disagree with the testicles: This impossible iris does seem very feminine to me - perhaps even too feminine for me to wear.

This is highly unfortunate, as my nose is currently celebrating quite a successful party with Monegal's fragrance. It truly boasts a beautiful top note - and maintains that level.

"Impossible Iris" celebrates the iris from an unusual perspective, without robbing it of its central characteristics. It is powdery as always, but also shows us an almost fleshy side. It is the acacia that gives the somewhat lofty iris a voluptuous physicality - this is how cleanliness turns sexy. I cannot confirm that the raspberry is hiding; I mainly perceive a sweet-sour hint at the beginning. However, it does not establish any fruitiness; I literally perceive it as grounding the otherwise rocket-like launching cream-white bouquet.

How well jasmine and iris complement each other has already been recognized by other perfumers; Monegal's achievement is that he does not even attempt to reinvent this tried-and-true combination. Lush and delicate at the same time, the soft jasmine aroma dims the occasionally aggressive iris note. Ylang-ylang rounds it off with sensual creaminess and ensures that the fragrance retains its brilliance. The result is a luminous floral accord without any false sweetness. Very elegant and initially almost unnoticed, a bright cedar eventually blends into this accord. Its woody note remains understated but present.

Monegal's composition is airy, but by no means fleeting; its longevity is in the good medium range. An overpowering sillage would contradict the charmingly playful character of the fragrance; instead, it possesses a particularly fine skin-close presence.

You are a wonderful creation, you impossible iris - it's a pity that I have trouble imagining you on a man - specifically: on me. But I am drawn to you, your floral curves, your radiant spirit, your self-forgetful glow; who knows, maybe we will still find each other.

Very subtle, powdery and creamy iris fragance. The ylang ylang brings some Chanel n°5 vibe. Very close to iris poudree by Frederic malle

Powdery iris with juicy grassy green, a flowery mimosa note and a faint fruity (well made) accent. Quite unusual iris scent.

One of the best iris fragrances on the market, as many have already said. And surprisingly, even with more depth than Iris Poudre!

Beautiful feminine, unsweet, ethereal iris scent that reminds (me) of Lux soap (80s), which an East German nostalgically means...;-)

The top note is clear butterscotch, from the heart note
it becomes fruity with a lovely iris.
Unconventional and that's what makes it beautiful.

Iris is not as dusty-powdery as it often is! Here you have a freshly cut bouquet in front of you, floral, a bit green.
