Leather masterpiece
Salvador For Him by Salvador Dali is a perfume which opens up with dominant herbal and aromatic tones surely given by notes such as tarragon, artemisia and coriander, as i recall, also contains aldehydes and some other notes in the top which i don't notice much, maybe because of the fact that the bottle and batch i have smelled of this perfume are from the early to mid 1990's and aldehydes are easily damaged by oxygen. In the heart there is a floral bouquet of mainly rose, and in the base we've got the most present note of the whole fragrance, an aromatic, amazingly constructed leather which some say is similar to the leather accord of Hermes Bel Ami, and which i also find pretty much similar to the leather in CH Men Privé by Carolina Herrera. There are also several other notes in the base, particularly oakmoss, musk and sweet notes which don't come through pretty much at all, i would say it is a predominant leather perfume with strong woody notes, floral nuances and aromatic / herbal tones to it.

Bottom line: Amazing perfume, i advice getting it if you find a vintage bottle, i don't have smelled the reformulation from 2011 with the lips shaped bottle, however i know it differs heavily from this classic 90's frag.

Oh you sexy motherf...
I can only crow with Prince or Umpfkrmpfkrz, as he later called himself!

What a delicious brew! As brilliant and eccentric and unique as its namesake.
I have many scents from Dali, I enjoy smelling and looking at them all. The beautiful sensual lips in all colors - a painting. And none of the fragrances risk a thick lip - they deliver what they promise with a seductive smile.

Salvador - far too precious just for men!

I love using this scent in the height of summer. I can't wait for the so-called dog days - summer in the city! A tiny bottle for my bag is already filled and patiently waiting for its big debut:

35 degrees mega-summer. It’s beastly hot, the air shimmers, everything sticks, the asphalt to the soles, the clothes to the skin, the hair on the head, the nerves somewhere in the stomach.
The air in the city is filled with sweat, dust, vanilla ice cream, wheat beer, sewer fumes, and sticky sweet shrill fruit perfume.
People are wearily searching for shade. The tongues of dogs and the little leaves on the ornamental trees in the asphalt of the pedestrian zone hang down to the ground.

This is the holy moment, the grand entrance of Salvador, this triumphant one in the hand- jacket- shirt- or pants pocket. He is a weapon against the evil scents of the summer metropolis!

This herb garden in the opening - it not only wakes up tired men! (According to advertising, women are never tired, they don’t sweat, they are always in a good mood and therefore jump a meter high in the air, showing off their freshly shaved Venus legs, and playfully the pink panties peek out while their voluminous hair flutters like a halo around their heads.)

For women who do not correspond to this modern, top-styled female icon and, like me, are tired and half in a coma from the stench of the city, so for us and of course also for the men, Salvador is a saint in a bottle, freeing us in no time from the evil attacks on sensitive smell and other nerves.

After the invigorating herbs come green notes, all the coniferous trees of this earth, a bit of galbanum, a hint of coriander leaf, a splash of green mandarin and lime - a freshness kick like a double espresso and half a liter of caipirinha.

And now one is ready for the concentrated eroticism that slowly but surely paves its way through the green opening with the help of the heart and base notes. Wow! Expertly dosed, nothing is too much, the cinnamon is - at least for me - not perceived. But the erotic flowers and the leather loincloth of the musk ox - hammer!

Sex in the City pure!

Catalan Spice Salves
I have been wondering for a long time how much Salvador Dali was aware of the perfume label marketed under his name. In any case, he was not aware of this scent here, as the Catalan artist (or should I have written Spanish now?) had already been embalmed in his crypt under his glass dome at the Teatre-Museu Dali in Figueres for three years at the time of the release.

Would he have sued the label? Most likely not, as it is well known that Dali stopped caring about what was sold under his name since the mid-60s. After all, he had already signed thousands of sheets of paper blank back then - and to this day, there is chaos regarding the authenticity and forgery of his works. However, he was able to collaborate and contribute his own ideas to the first fragrances in the early 80s. So he originally left nothing to chance on this topic.

Did he miss out on the Eau de Toilette "Salvador"? Well, that's of course a matter of taste. While "Dali" and later "Dali pour Homme" were still quite independent creations, especially in terms of bottle design, which are iconic masterpieces, here we have a scent that is strongly influenced by the spirit of the times.

Two things stand out exorbitantly in "Salvador." On the one hand, the Eau de Toilette comes across as absolutely spicy thanks to tarragon, coriander, cumin, and pepper in that order of emphasis. Cinnamon unfortunately gets a bit lost, which is bearable. The floral notes also play a role that is more subordinate than primary. They are recognizable, but more like a thin backdrop.

On the other hand, and this has only been acknowledged by 4% of voters in the classification, "Salvador" also has a rather fresh character, likely thanks to a decent dose of aldehydes. Thus, the scent overall comes across as relatively spicy-fresh, which, in this combination, leads me to associate it with shower gel. Yes, not a nice term - and in the early 90s, that was probably not the intention of the perfumers. However, it should be added that my personal impression leans more towards "now-I'm-getting-really-fresh-for-my-evening-date-under-the-hot-shower." And that, of course, with the stylistic devices of the 90s, if you know what I mean. After all, 36% also see it as an evening scent.

And I did not find "Salvador" to be particularly leathery either. It would have fit well, which is why one might wish for it more than it would actually be encountered - not even in the hint of birch tar.

All in all, for me, it is an absolutely fresh representative among spicy scents, managing to convey a warming sense of security at the same time. It is definitely pleasant, although, unlike Dali's famous melting clocks as a symbol of the omnipresent time, it has not endured.

Magical
Grrrrr! Why are such fragrances being discontinued? According to my research on http://www.parfums-salvadordali.com/fragrances/fragrances_uk.html and inquiries at Kobberger in Frankfurt, it is no longer available.

Salvador by Salvador Dali has everything that makes a fragrance great for me. Complexity, originality, development, individuality, naturalness of the ingredients, and the quality features of longevity and projection. As always, I am frustrated that I can't tell you exactly what individual notes build up, develop, and break down in what form and intensity, but it smells to me like an oriental bazaar, slightly sweet with fruits, many spices, and flowers at every corner. It truly develops and reveals three phases, although, as I said, I can't really describe the individual notes. Since I sometimes let myself be guided by appearances when buying a perfume, I must commend the bottle here. It's a big and beautiful spectacle. For every fan of oriental, obscure, and rare fragrances, it's worth a blind purchase.

The Best from Dali
I must say that I am slowly losing track of the scents from Dali. They all look almost the same. Moreover, there are so many flankers. I have never seen, let alone smelled, many of them. Personally, I only used two: Laguna Homme and Salvador. I owned Salvador what feels like an eternity ago. Now I have finally acquired a non-leaked mini.

Salvador is a really beautiful, warm, spicy, and slightly oriental scent. I don’t know why, but I always associate this fragrance with a summer night. The heat has subsided, you breathe in the unmistakable scent of the night city and look forward to an adventure. Salvador smells damn erotic. Maybe that was just too much. It didn’t fit with the emerging clean chic of the 90s.

The bottle and packaging were beautiful. This rich lapis lazuli blue. Indicated stars. The golden lettering. The rich gold of the perfume in the sculptural bottle. Unfortunately, both do not really come across in the photo above.

I quote from my Douglas Journal from 1992:

SALVADOR was launched in March 1992, almost a year after the creation of Laguna, and immediately made a name for itself in the market. A lively-fresh scent with a full bouquet makes it Laguna's male counterpart.

SALVADOR is based on solid foundations and looks towards a promising future (Author's note: Shit Happens!).

The scent provokes and stimulates thought. SALVADOR is a young fragrance with a lot of heart, presenting itself passionately and strongly.

My father has a vintage bottle from the 90's which aged well. Really nice herbal and leather, citrus and tarragon pop a lot when i smell it.

Like Dalí's garden in Portlligat: art/kitsch/skill. Aldehydes fruity-peachy here, clove synthetic, patchouli smoky. Ambivalent.

By far not as eccentric as the master himself, so a giant WITHOUT drawers. Pleasantly fruity-spicy.

Mysterious, spicy, surreal, dark! Catalan landscape, vividly olfactored. Contradictory scent notes, yet everything fits. TOP!
