Meditative silence at Itsukushima Shrine
It is incredibly interesting how differently this fragrance is described here in the comments and statements. My impression of the fragrance is once again a little different: I too perceive delicate mineral notes and salt, which immediately makes me think of the sea; in addition, the opening already reveals a spicy, fresh herbal note of the gentlest kind, really absolutely gentle - that must be myrrh. I do not perceive smoke and it does not show up in my heart. At the beginning there are associations with wild foaming spray, dune grass, wind and clouds - a wild sea, in Brittany, in Scotland is drawn here. Then, however, already after about 30 minutes, everything changes: The notes merge, harmonize in a fantastic way and produce a fragrance that could not be more beautiful and authentic: Sunscreen of the finest, most delicious kind. Anyone who knows "19 Louanges Profanes" by Pierre Guillaume knows which notes are involved; "Deep Island" is very similar in its heart to the PG fragrance, which has the sun cream more in the top note. In this respect, "Deep Island" is much more suitable than "19 Louanges Profanes" to feel a real, authentic sunscreen note for many hours. A light vanilla note only shows up after many, many hours, in the evening. Before that, this delicious sun cream remains.
All in all, this is a sea day scent: I arrive in the morning, the sea is wild, wind blows through my hair, I smell spray, algae and dune grass. I put my cream on and walk along the beach. For a whole day I walk through the wet sand, with my feet in the water, feel the salty spray on my lips, feel the warm sun on my shoulders. In the evening I take a shower and perfume my sun-warmed skin with a very light vanilla-EdT.
That's roughly how Deep Island presents itself. But the statements and comments already show what I also feel clearly: This fragrance is incredibly complex and goes through a development that you can only experience if you really wear this fragrance many times for many hours.
This quality of the fragrance makes it one of my absolute summer favourites of the year for me, and I noticed today that I can basically have a whole long summer with this brand: Simone Andreoli has created three wonderful summer fragrances (what could be waiting for me that I don't know yet?). "Deep Island" is the sun cream fragrance that guarantees absolute well-being. "Malibù - Party in the Bay" is the citrusy fresh kick in the morning, as beautiful as "Virgin Island Water" and very, very similar to it. "Leisure in Paradise", which was only launched this year, is the summer gourmand par excellence: with exotic fruits and lots of coconut, it lulls you into Caribbean dreams. Overall, I think this brand has been fantastic so far. I would love to get tips from you about what else is recommendable. Is there an exotic flower scent for the summer?
"Diario olfattivo" is what Simone Andreoli calls his perfume story and I find this so understandable: Every fragrance speaks to me in the most beautiful words. Let us be inspired by what Simone Andreoli herself says about "Deep Island", embossed in tiny, finely curved cursive script on the bottle. I will try to translate the Italian text for you:

I did have some trouble translating these lyrical words into German, but I think that the words with which the perfumer presents his fragrance reveal a lot about his intention and inspiration. Now we know that by "Deep Island" he means the Japanese island of Miyajima, which he found deeply meditative. Miyajima with its famous shrine, which was built in the 6th century and has existed in its present form since 1168, is one of the three most beautiful landscapes in Japan, according to the Confucian scholar Hayashi Razan, born in Kyoto in 1583. It is therefore a fragrance inspired by centuries of Japanese meditation, and in this respect Marquise27 has intuitively described the fragrance perfectly.
