Habits Die Hard
The Different Company SIENNE D'ORANGE is a likeable, smooth, light orange cologne with subtlety and finesse. I am afraid, however, that it is going to be difficult to win over amateurs of Hermès CONCENTRE D'ORANGE VERTE and the like.

The problem I see is that we are (I am) used to a certain rather brisk and powerful presentation of citrus. Something like SIENNE D'ORANGE seems somewhat weak and wishy-washy in comparison. The leather here is extremely light, and on first sniff, I actually thought that this contained patchouli, in a composition parallel to LIMON DE CORDOZA. I also do not smell much in the way of cardamom, carrot, or dill in this composition. Of course those are often wielded with a heavy hand and can result in too culinary of a mix. Dill is a particularly tricky note, it seems to me.

Everything here is well-mannered and measured, even genteel. But I fear that the people who might like this subtler, lower-key orange cologne are probably those who have already learned generally to steer clear of citrus altogether because they always find it too declarative. Another good example is Bond no 9 LITTLE ITALY, which also offers a relatively strong presentation of orange. It is different from the Hermès, but equally forceful, particularly in its central citrus orange note.

I like SIENNE D'ORANGE, but not as much as these orange-focused fragrances already beloved to me. It could just be a matter of habit, but I am indeed habituated to that sort of orange: powerful, not very sweet, preferably green, and mixed with woods and/or resins.

The Oranges Roll Away!
I actually like orange scents, as I find them particularly refreshing and easy to wear on hot days. Not all of these fragrances are particularly well-made, but when you discover a really good orange scent, you don't want to miss it on hot days, no matter how much the citrus-hating cat complains.

And you know that even though I count the wonderful Concentré d’Orange Verte by Hermès among the best orange fragrances, I am always on the lookout for new scents. My registration here on Parfumo about three years ago also plays a role (what did you all do without me before? :DD). Everyone said, "Watch out! Parfumo is more addictive than chocolate!" and I always laughed because I thought that something like that, which happens to everyone here, wouldn't happen to me since I usually have good self-control. But now it has come to the point where I really test a lot of fragrances, seemingly always in search of a new, even better scent. Now would be a good time to quote Star Wars: "There's always a bigger fish!" :DD

And to make matters worse, I have to describe almost all the scents as well,... aaaah, my fingers already hurt from typing. I can't take it anymore... but you know how it is with addicts... just one more scent, just one more... but then 20 new fragrances end up on the watchlist and you’re almost glad that you will never see or smell half of them, which is kind of depressing on the other hand.... *sigh* It's a vicious cycle!!!

The Scent:
The scent starts with oranges. Light, watery oranges that also have a slightly spicy aroma, which could possibly come from the cardamom.
In any case, the oranges smell neither particularly juicy nor zesty, nor particularly good, which might be due to the slightly spicy note.
Only about five minutes later, the spicy note becomes a bit softer. The orange notes have already weakened, and the cardamom is also slowly losing strength.
Iris and carrot, actually two notes that one could immediately detect, are so weak here that you only perceive them a little because you saw them in the fragrance pyramid, and psychologically your brain tricks you into thinking that you actually noticed these scents :D
In the base, it continues to smell of loosely fragrant oranges (now much weaker, as if my cat had rolled them all away… :D) with a very slightly sweet note added.

The Sillage and Longevity:
I hardly need to write anything here, as one could derive from my title (yes, even though I often poke fun at you here, make jokes, or even insult you, I don't think you're all stupid... at least not that stupid :DD), you can already guess that the projection is rather low and the scent will only be detectable up close.
This also means that the longevity is quite short, so the scent hardly smells after a few hours (about 2-3 hours).

The Bottle:
The bottle is rectangular and filled with orange-colored fragrance liquid. On the front, you can see the almost glaring orange label. The most distinctive detail of the bottle, as always, is the stair-like cap with round steps. As always, it's quite nice to look at.

Okay folks, that was my last comment here! I'm quite tired now...

Mu ha ha ha, you don't believe me? Yeah, I don't either! Hope your heart hasn't dropped into your pants from shock (but I'm happy to help put your heart back in place, you just have to take off your pants so I can find the heart... um, that only applies to perfumes!! Aaah, me and my dirty thoughts... :D). Wait? Didn't I just make this joke recently? Aaah I don't remember anymore,... I'm getting older *sigh* ... someday I surely won't be quick enough to run away from an angry mob,... on the other hand, the angry mob will be older too, mu ha ha ha!

Anyway. Unfortunately, I didn't like this scent very much. It simply offers nothing that would be worth the money. The orange notes are not sparkling and therefore not refreshing. Moreover, they disappear so quickly that you would actually have to reapply the scent every 15 minutes... and in the end, it smells more like a thin fruit juice.

As mentioned at the beginning, there are much better orange scents, for example, with the fragrance from Hermès. Maybe I should expand my lists of fragrances here and list the (in my opinion) good citrus scents there, on the other hand, many citrus scents can be found on my summer list... hmm... see? And suddenly you spend more time with fragrances and on Parfumo again... aaaargh... at least you get to know some nice people here over time (ohoooo, you never thought I would write something nice about you, did you?? :D)!

Well then, until next time :)

Fizz and Gone
I sometimes really like orange scents. Therefore, I was looking forward to testing this one as well. But unfortunately, there wasn't much to test. The only thing I smell after applying it is the orange. Nice, that's what I tested the fragrance for. But after just 15 minutes, I can hardly notice anything anymore; after half an hour, I have to really strain to smell something. And after an hour, there's nothing left.
Longevity - at least for me - is poor, sillage is non-existent. I can't write much more. However, for the few minutes, the orange did smell nice and fresh...

A Spoonful for...
Besides the relevant experts from agriculture, nutritional science, gastronomy, etc., probably no one knows carrots better than parents do. The standard baby food is not available in too many preparation variations among the latter, but rather on various own and foreign body parts and for scraping or washing out from every conceivable corner or textile. One easily forgets what a wonderful thing the oh-so-ordinary carrot is culinarily. It can be quite fragrant-fresh, very sweet, but also rather bitter-spicy. A fragrance with carrot as an explicit component is therefore possibly particularly exciting.

And indeed, our SdO carrot is present from the very beginning. It fits surprisingly well with orange and initially provides a bit of sweetness to the occasionally rather fleeting hesperidia, giving it stability and depth, even a kind of distinct spiciness. For the cardamom, however, I need a bit of imagination.

Then comes a proper surprise. A changed carrot aroma mixes excellently with the iris. In retrospect, I am surprised by my astonishment, as the two aromas actually have a similar character, provided - as in this case - the rather bitter and olfactorily airy-cool aspect of the carrot is in play.

The unusual mélange is complemented by an unmistakable apricot scent. I did not know that apricot wood smells so much like apricot. Without warning, I might have guessed it was kernels, if not even Madame herself.

Unfortunately, there is not much time to enjoy the original composition, as the scent is incredibly fleeting. Cologne or not, the sillage does not reach from Cologne to Porz, and the longevity barely lasts from twelve to noon. Clearly under two hours, and practically the entire scent is on the skin; "on..." would be an exaggeration. Spraying on clothing extends it a little. I barely perceive a hint of white pepper towards the end; after the leather, the olfactory bulb is already reaching in vain. A plant sap note squeezes through the door at the very last moment. It is still quite perceptible for a few hours, but only with direct breathing on the skin.

Well, as beautiful as I find the scent, its performance is pathetic even for a cologne. There are deductions that are not only unavoidable in the B-note. Using it requires carrying a bag that the bottle fits comfortably into. Now it no longer surprises me that the scent is not available in two sizes as is usually customary for TDC. A 50ml bottle would simply serve no purpose!

By the way, I believe the TDC idea of giving their works the most diverse opening mechanisms is positioned somewhere between stimulating and frustrating (depending on the mood). Sometimes a heavy metal cap must be completely peeled off (Jasmin de Nuit), which has certainly claimed one or another bathroom tile; another variant is that only part of it needs to be removed (Sel de Vetiver). The cap of SdO, however, is conveniently made of faux wood, but has been given a left-hand thread; woe betide anyone who suspects a strong clamping of the cap....

A speculation about the reason for the unconventional closure here: Perhaps the openings of color spray guns are correspondingly left-wound. Then one could screw the bottle directly onto it. This would enormously facilitate the application of the amount of SdO required for minimal durability demands, and finger muscle soreness or even strains would be a thing of the past. One could perhaps even repurpose such a thing into a showerhead. That would be a crafting suggestion for my brother, who is an engineer with a penchant for quirky nonsense.

The blend of iris and orange creates an image of ACE juice with lots of pulp on white leather. Very intriguing. But do I want to smell like that?

Take 2 candies dissolved in carrot juice. It smells sooo delicious sunny-creamy-fresh, not too sweet, as there's also a slight bitterness to it.

Refreshing orange drink for summer evenings or a vitamin boost for cold days. The scent just wants to refresh with fruity notes. Good!

I only smell orange + carrot and can't help but think of the sauce from duck à l'orange... without the duck, of course... *

Spicy oranges fall into a pot of cream/Cologne-like fleetingness/while a finely balanced delicious hint remains on the skin.

Juicy ripe oranges frolic in the reddish-brown walls of Sienna; pleasantly full-bodied, even if it's just a "little water."

Very soft, sweet musky cream-orange citrus with a hint of cardamom spice. Well done, but also quite shallow.

The Kleks carrot puree surprisingly pairs well with the orange, and it lasts quite well for a cologne, but up close.

The complex composition of citrusy-green freshness, lightly spiced with a floral cocktail, unfortunately didn't convince me.
