The popular gem
This is one of scents that my partner and I agree on. We both like it, especially the spicy beginning: pepper, ginger and cardamom… what is not to like?! When it warms up, the flower heart of this is sweet and beautiful. Finally the base is a dark, woody musk that ends the journey so well. It is in my top 20.
I own 9 Versace scents and this is, by far, the best. The other are all pleasing - and a bit anonymous. Whereas Crystal Noir has character. It is a memorable scent and I love the bottle, both the design and the colour.

Fresh and well-blended designer fave
Crystal Noir opens with a spicy fresh ginger, cardamom, and pepper zinging over gardenia, coconut, and orange blossom. I'm not much of a floral lover, and find white florals particularly cloying much of the time, but the top notes in this one do a lot to keep the experience refreshing. The coconut is not dominant to my nose and does not smell like sunscreen. It just adds to the creaminess alongside the sandalwood. It reminds me of a nice ginger soap for the first couple of hours. It has good projection and sillage during this time and people comment favorably fairly often when I wear Crystal Noir. In the second or third hour the spicy top notes and florals start fading, giving way to a creamy, sultry sandalwood and light amber musk. Most of the sillage is gone at the end of the second hour, but the projection is still there at 2-3 inches. It is only slightly floral in the dry down, and wonderfully woody. The skin scent lingers up to ten hours later.

She is a powerful girl, so I recommend light application. One or two sprays is all that you need. I wear this fragrance day or night in all seasons.

better than the edt!
disclaimer: i tried the edt first & went through 2 full bottles. i now have a 10 ml decant, but i recently decided to buy a sample of the edp to compare. also, i'm almost certain this is post-reformulation (i have no idea what it used to smell like).

i feel a tiny bit of regret getting the decant of the edt b/c i ended up liking the edp more! edt is more musky, but edp is more floral. it's a more creamy floral, & i actually appreciate the coconut here (i typically don't care for coconut in fragrances). the edp is also MUCH stronger than the edt on me: edp lasts 9+ hours on bare skin while the edt lasts 4 hours over vaseline + lotion.

so while i really like both, edp is the clear winner!

So Much to Learn
I bought both EDP and EDT last year during the summer, luckily managing to capture one of the bottles from a batch before the 2020 reformulation. I wore just a little of the EDT one summer night, and found it's body-lotion like freshness pretty forgettable. I shelved it. It didn't make sense to test a cold weather fragrance in the middle of summer when it might be intolerable. Now that autumn is in full swing, I tried the EDP last night. Again, lotion. Johnson & Johnson's baby lotion, to be specific. It's a scent that has always made me a bit sick and I came close to scrubbing this off. But I stepped outside for a moment and perhaps that was just long enough for this to start to develop. I was able to smell in a pretty linear way the ginger and cardamom, and a creamy gardenia edging from beneath these spices. It is much prettier (and more potent) than I first thought. This fragrance is so strong, it was still with me the next day. The next morning is when I was able to pick up the sandalwood and musk. I would only wear this in very cold weather if ever, as I find it terribly strong and heady. I suspect I’ll give this away after all as I do prefer sweet or floral scents.

Slept on this one for too long
I slept on Crystal Noir for years because I disliked Versace Bright Crystal so much and I foolishly assumed they would have similar DNA. I don't think that is the case at all.

This is frankly put, wonderful. It's one of those scents that can be worn year round with a light hand and I find really versatile. I always Stan a versatile perfume. It's refined and cool, easy to wear.

The musk is a clean just showered musk, which is always my preferred take on the note. The white florals are not indolic and balanced by the freshness of the peony. Nothing overly sharp to be seen. The sandalwood and cardamom combine to give a soft and creamy sweetness, it's almost coconutty. The ginger and pepper add an additional aromaticness.

Versace Crystal Noir is bdk Gris Charnel more subtle cousin and dare I say it, I think may even be more refined in some ways. Certainly it is less intense and green and very feminine vs unisex. The price point is also infinitely more attractive. The packaging is a bit meh but the juice is stellar.

Great job from Versace and I hope the EdP stays around because this very quickly became a staple from me. An oldie that I am annoyed I didn't try sooner.

Simply creamy coconut and light spices in the background. Nice but not worth the hype imo.

1st spray is J&J’s baby lotion, which I loathe. Given a few mins, the cardamom & ginger bloom over divine gardenia! So glad I kept this.
