Polarising but Performing (and high quality)
Energy entered the scene with polarizing reputation. Some called it derivative, others found it compelling. Somewhere in between lies the truth: the "yellow Eros" is a vibrant summer fragrance that deserves more credit than it's been given.
The opening is unmistakably citrus-driven. There's a fizzy burst of Italian lemon, mandarin, bergamot, and grapefruit that defines the candied brightness of lemon-flavored sweets (see Lemonheads). It feels playful but refined enough to not veer into synthetic overload. It leans sweet, but it’s enjoyable and refreshing in the heat.
As the scent begins to settle, the sweetness is tempered by a pink pepper and blackcurrant combo, which helps introduce a lightly aromatic edge.
The drydown is where Eros Energy similarity to its obvious inspiration: Aventus Cologne. Here, clean musk, Ambrofix, and patchouli layer smoothly over an oakmoss base. While the DNA will feel very familiar to anyone who's worn Explorer or the aforementioned Aventus, Eros Energy distinguishes itself with slightly brighter citrus in the top and significantly more robust projection and longevity. On skin, it can last 8–10 hours with ease and for the first couple of hours (at least) leaves a scent trail that defies expectations for a freshie.
Overall, there are no cheap smells here, no toilet cleaning product tendencies. Fernandez used Orpur/Givaudan captive materials, which are typically used at niche level...
Despite all this, Eros Energy has caught some (in my opinion) unjust criticism. Fragrance forums have been quick to dismiss it as an unoriginal flanker with no identity. But this raises the question: why the double standard? Niche brands like Electimuss and Mind Games release fragrances with clear Aventus DNA and are praised for “reinterpretation,” while Versace gets mocked for doing the same at a designer price point.
The reality is simpler: Eros Energy is a solid, well-made citrus-woody scent that delivers on performance and wearability.
To conclude, Eros Energy may not revolutionize the fragrance world, but it doesn’t need to. It’s an easy-going, energetic scent perfect for warm days when you want something crisp, modern, and long-lasting. The candy-citrus opening might not appeal to all... but it evolves into a well-balanced, musky-amber drydown that smells far more expensive than it is.
For fans of Aventus Cologne looking for a more affordable and longer-lasting summer option or for anyone who just wants a bold, clean citrus scent with credible performance, Eros Energy is worth a look.
