Tropical Vitamins
There are moments when I would rather just dissolve into thin air: like when the Floating Peach Blossom takes me shopping for laundry - as if SHE didn’t already have enough options in that regard - and I can’t sneak off to the nearest café because I might get lost in the middle of South Tyrol. So here I am with HER in the middle of a lingerie store, waiting for a fitting room to become available for HER, feeling like a best-ager among numerous young women who could all be my daughters, a bit out of place, like a driven mix of sugar daddy and voyeur. So where to look innocently when the partner has eventually disappeared into a fitting room? God bless it, Victoria's Secret sells perfumes among thongs and bikinis. "Mander, it’s time!" ... if not here, then where?
Due to the low price, Victoria's Secret skips the outer box; the bottle has to speak for itself. A nice large cylinder with an appealing gradient from pink to orange, topped with a golden cap. Yes, it’s okay, nice and heavy, I really like that. The sprayer produces a rich mist, which I find noteworthy in this price range.
You are immediately enveloped by the entire fruit salad mentioned in the pyramid. The guava has a watery quality, the pineapple adds fresh acidity, mango and passion fruit provide tropical vibes and the indispensable sweetness. It gets a bit sticky, but not too much. Fruit, acidity, and sugar are well balanced. The fruit aromas inevitably remind you of some well-known gummy bears, ice creams, and yogurts; they must have sourced from the same supplier shelf. Admittedly, it smells a bit synthetic, but not too much, and I never find it disturbing or inappropriate. As the fruity intensity diminishes after a while, dry light woods quietly round off the scent, combined with a slightly mineral sea breeze.
The fruit cloud noticeably retreats after about an hour, yet I am quite amazed that even after 7-8 hours in summery, sweat-inducing heat, I can still detect a light fruity shimmer on my skin.
Since the fruits were not paired with the usual flowers as a counterpoint and it is overall not overly sweet, the scent never comes across as purely feminine. A good summer and vacation fragrance, also quite suitable for men. It’s definitely worth it. For the budget price being asked, absolutely.
Why the fragrance ultimately didn’t make it into my collection is quickly explained: I got distracted, was then allowed to assist in selecting new swimwear and some bras, and by the time I left the store, as so often, I already had both hands full.
