Even if you don't like the OG BO, give Le Parfum a chance
I did not like the original BO at all, found it screechy and basic and got rid of it fast. Le Parfum is the only BO flanker so far that I can see myself wearing. The notes are much smoother and gourmand without being overwhelmingly sweet. Tested at Ulta and was pleasantly surprised. On the blotter paper, it had outstanding longevity and made my purse smell soooo good!

So, I got tempted and went ahead and got myself a used bottle to see if I could tolerate it on my skin. It's very nice, I actually crave it in the morning with my coffee, it’s such a delicious way to start a day! I think it's too heavy for office wear, especially in the summer, but I work from home and sit under the air conditioner, so it works for me!

The True Sequel
In this take of Black Opium, there is a heavier delivery of vanilla and coffee with a touch of spice. So, there is actually less focus on the white floral aspect. This is the true sequel to "Black Opium", as it relates directly note-wise. Think of all the other flankers as fun franchises. Black Opium Le Parfum is deeper, yet softer. This often happens with "Parfum" or pure perfume concentrations. Parfum or Extraits don't always equal more projection, but will linger on the skin longer in most cases. I did find this to be a tad bit fleeting for a Parfum, but wonderful otherwise. I will be revisiting this concentration again to confirm. Despite this factor, it is still my favorite interpretation of Black Opium. I would put this in the class of Good Girl Supreme, which has a prominent coffee note as well. Le Parfum is darker and much more gourmand, but leans on the patchouli to give it depth and some sophistication. Now that Black Opium and Libre have reached their max concentrations, I am curious to know what YSL/L'Oréal Luxe does next.

Sweet opening
The opening of Le Parfum is already sweet, with the vanilla being very present at the start. It does have a ‘quartet’ of vanilla notes, so, that’s understandable.

But, early on I get a good deal of cinnamon in the mix. Much lighter on the green mandarin here versus Illicit Green, and even not too much of a pear influence.

With that cinnamon, the vanilla, coffee, and general warmth this does have a coffee drink sort of vibe and not just beans. With that, the coffee note is diluted and isn’t as strong overall.

To me, this is much smoother and less messy than the original Black Opium EDP.

I’ve also seen Le Parfum get compared to Vanilla 28 by Kayali. Not really the same. That’s more linear, thinner, and has that brown sugar note which sets it apart from this. Plus, it lacks the same level of spice that is present with the cinnamon.

That spice, will relent as we move along. The usual jasmine and orange flower floral heart will begin to emerge, but never fully overtake anything. It’s still a warm/sweet/spicy blend of the vanilla and coffee notes. Just, with a light blend of floral notes.

Suprised
As much as I do not like the black opium series as much this one has a rather delicious evolution I must say.
Tested by chance today (being a fan of olivier cresp I always test) I headed to this bottle that I did not know, exit the glitter, hello black bottle.
First a direct sniff near the atomizer, hold it looks not bad, hop the mouillette, pschitt pschitt ... Hmm. Let's not see Mazal, one. Vanilla rather dark, hold, orange blossom .. Rather classic oh no wait it's spicy... cinnamon.
Ok so in mind we are good I confirm. Then I say to myself go we test on skin (1 pschitt this time not crazy we never know) the start is identical then it arises the vanilla remains present but is adorned with coffee a little dry (patchouli?) It's sweet but not sickening,
To my astonishment I did not smell this jasmine that usually bothers me so much.
In short, a beautiful perfect that married my skin with a black softness.
It s a win for me

Rich deep cozy vanilla
Ok, if you’re not a fan of the original Black Opium then you NEED to try this. I don’t mind Black Opium applied sparingly for going out, but it’s borderline too sickly sweet for me and too many sprays actually makes me feel nauseated.

This flanker is a lot more focused on the vanilla and feels a lot cozier and intimate. If the original is coffee, this is a latte with lots of cream! It’s not as overwhelmingly sweet as the original.

I heard a reviewer describe this as a “politer” version of Black Opium and I agree with that. This smells like a delicious vanilla baked good on me. It also feels more appropriate for daytime. Perfect for a cold winter day.

A smooth orange blossom vanilla with just a hint of the coffee character. The vanilla in here smells like a vanilla extract which is divine.

Warm, cozy, lightly sweet vanilla with spicy, smoky, leathery, and woody nuances. My all-time favourite vanilla perfume.

"Le parfum" is the version outshining the og "edp". It's what the og version should've been. It's dark, spicy, vanilla heavy.

A real feminine fragrance. A lot of vanilla, a white flowery base which gives me a headache.

Extremely sweet, almost fortified, with a strong vanilla-coffee combo.
A true bomb to wear in deep winter

Beautiful one: smells so sweet, the vanilla is syrupy yet deep and sophisticated. The only downside is its poor longevity. Still my favourite
