Pleasant Time Flows By
Zadig & Voltaire answers the decades-old question from Haddaway clearly and strongly - “This Is Love!” is the latest fragrance from the always somewhat conservative-youthful brand, which this time comes across as distinctly more playful and colorful than usual, immediately catching my eye on the shelf. And for that, I am quite grateful.
“This Is Love!” could have come straight out of the 90s, it is an almost classic fruity sandalwood casual scent that combines orange blossom with the creaminess of this particular, slightly oriental wood. Casual, fluffy, light. Sweet, but with restraint. A “Joop Homme Freestyle” could have easily gone in this direction 25 years ago. Young, naive, slim, almost childlike and already bubblegum - but by no means as sugary, chemical, piercing, and synthetic as many other current releases in the men’s sector. Simple, straightforward, effective. A great daytime companion for leisure, for light sports activities, for spring, summer, and autumn. Accessible, but not characterless. Slightly trashy (what from the 90s isn’t?!), but packed with a sympathy and nostalgia and a fun factor that brings a smile to my face, which always seems to have a mischievous grin. Crisp, clear, structured. Not a dead-on tried and cultivated mush. Like a hit shaken out of the sleeve of Mrs. Lorson. Perhaps not a bullseye. But closer than 90% of the other current releases.
Bottle: appealing, pretty, playful. Fabulous color gradient. It caught my eye wonderfully and I really like it, fitting the fragrance very well.
Sillage: not subtle, not overwhelming, the successful middle ground. This also fits the fragrance.
Longevity: with 5-7 hours, you can definitely get a good amount of wear.
Conclusion: a fragrance - uncomplicated and friendly, colorful yet stylish enough, delicious but never too sticky - like they really don’t make anymore. Delightful and probably the most successful of the line for me.
