Tobacco-Laden Coffee
Almost every Adi ale Van fragrance I've smelled has a common note; an unusual mix of animalic notes and other aromas that presents particularly for the first 20-30 minutes, fading until the unique nature can shine. U.M.B.R.E. is not a photorealistic, Starbucks latte. It's bittersweet, spicy, and resinous, leaning mature and masculine. The opening is animalic, the heart is woody and earthy, and the base is tobacco-laden. It's warm and heavy, like a weighted blanket. The end result is a mature gourmand that is enjoyable but not widely appealing like a sweeter, generic coffee fragrance might be.
No surprise, but the longevity is excellent and the projection is moderate, like most from this house. The bottle is gorgeous as well, uniquely designed and handmade, which to some extent justifies the higher price. Overall, there's better scents from Adi ale Van, but this is one to checkout for lovers of coffee scents.
