Spicy and herbal opening with nice sandalwood base
Very spicy, slightly herbal opening which almost drills me in the nose. Reminds me of the spices of Thai cuisine - curry blend, lemongrass, a touch of spiciness. Although it is definitely not in the gourmand category. With time, this spiciness quiets down and the sandalwood starts to become more prominent. It gets smoother, creamier, woodier, though you can still smell spices and herbs in the background. The sandalwood has a slightly rougher character here than, for example, in Al Santal from Areej le Dore, where a more sweet, nutty chord is perceptible. The perfume, compared to other fragrances from Ensar Oud, is quite linear. Though I wouldn't take that as a complaint. The composition didn't knock my socks off, but it's a solid, well-made perfume with a sandalwood base. It was a pleasure for me to test Santal Sultan.
