Borneo Diesel is an unreleased Oriscent distillation we did about seven years ago, and is as good as Malinau oud can get. It has only been sold privately at $2,500 / 3gr, which means your bottle of 1984 contains $1,665 worth of BD inside. Borneo and New Guinea, two of the largest islands on our planet. Covered in rainforests, they represent a significant and vital part of our green lungs. Additionally, they are a habitat for various species of animals and insects. Fascinating nature, partly untouched and isolated from our turbulent and noisy world.

It is precisely here, to the heart of these green forests, that we are transported.

The green and damp scent of wet leaves and soil, decayed wood and moss-covered bark. Silence, no sounds of cars and people, only the occasional noises of plants and animals. Here and there, a few bright flowers grow, barely visible. All around, only dense green and trees lined up side by side. Some of the trees also bear fruit. Sweet, ripe, and tasty. Everything covered in the dew of the humid air.

Whether in 1984 or 2024, here the world is in order.

the headline already reflects it to some extent...

Short preface:

I have turned my back on the brand almost twice and yet I keep being drawn back there. The sheer quality of the ingredients used is nearly unique worldwide, but the truly ONLY reason I said NO was, honestly, the price of the individual fragrances... and the cheapest starts roughly at €17 (so it does) and the most expensive at €40 per ml up to open end, and the attars are priced quite differently... and I had to ask myself - with clear common sense, do you really need this!?

No, of course not..... , but it is pretty awesome...

About the scent:

Most EOs have something animalistic, wicked, and dirty - but this one has 0.0!

How can one imagine it?

- balsamic
- ethereal
- menthol-heavy
- green
- slightly earthy + moist
- soft wood
- generally a lot of sandalwood (which gives it a certain creaminess)
- and the main actor is the oak moss

Green lungs, forests where it just rained..., then you roughly know which direction it’s going.

In my opinion, it is one of the most beginner-friendly scents from EO that exists. The company places 0.0 emphasis on the likability factor, which is possible up to a certain point, but the focus at EO is on the ingredients and their harmony, and you can really tell! Even with scents that I don’t like, you can notice this, and craftsmanship-wise, this is probably the spearhead.

Can I recommend it?

If you like oak moss and sandalwood + this vibe of freshly rained, then yes - however, consider the ethereal + balsamic factor a bit. If you want to know what is possible, please test this and something else.

Please test it directly on your skin and don’t just smell it from the sprayer or a test strip. Fragrances from the EO brand (including ALD) smell quite different on the skin. Only there do they really unfold their certain charm.
