Refreshing balmy scent
Le Couvent is a perfume house that uses high quality ingredients for the main notes of the fragrance and is under the artistic direction of Jean Claude Ellena, one of the greatest perfumers we had. Solano is a spring-summer perfume with character that is refreshing and balmy at the same time. Suncream and mint over tonka bean
Ylang presented so cleverly that you instantly recognize it as a true representation of the flower, yet not as something even definably floral. In the topnotes, a minty ylang bellows its bright yellow tune against the dun background of crushed hazelnuts, something briefly rummy, and the half-doughy, half-powdery cherry-almond duvet of tonka bean that stretches from here to forever.

Belying the stodginess of that description is the actuality of its texture – translucent, mica-ish, almost sparkling. The leafy sting of camphor here is a natural derivative of ylang, but the patchouli (a member of the mint family, after all) also gives it some welly. Solano’s earthiness almost rebalances the flower’s reputation for being traditionally feminine. The remarkable thing about it is just how creamy, bright, and sensuous the ylang is, even while smeared all over this nu-fougère-ish base.

I have to call out the incredible tonka bean drydown here. It is practically a legume-i-flore. Even twelve, twenty-four hours on, I can smell the velvety-but-rough nut cream of the tonka, its bittersweet cherry-almond tonalities melding so effectively with the fruity-sour creaminess of the ylang that it is impossible to tell where one begins and the other ends.

The African Savanna in This Fragrance
My first comment on Parfumo, as two lines of a statement are not enough to describe this fragrance. I am shockingly in love!
On my first day of vacation, I had an appointment but arrived too early. In these Corona times, you don’t wait; you pass the time. The path led me past a family-owned perfumery. The selection is not niche, but also not ordinary.
I had the opportunity to test several fragrances from the brand Le Couvent.
With Solano, the packaging immediately caught my attention, which really piqued my curiosity: A surrounding wandering dune, with a cheetah at the edge. Ylang-Ylang / Davana describes the main players. After spraying it on, I was instantly transported to the African savanna at dusk, even though I have never experienced it live.
Davana is clearly the star of the fragrance. Fruity, floral, and balsamic, the oil comes through, which is present in a higher percentage in the scent. This composition is warm and enveloping, where I can’t pick out any other distinct notes. Davana along with a pleasant sweetness and slight spiciness. I also find the name successful. Solano is a hot wind.
This will now be a frequent companion. The fragrance is definitely unisex. The longevity is very good. Due to the perfume oil content, the sillage is superb. The price is unbeatable for this quality. The whole brand is worth a test. I’m in.

Bitter-Sweet Truffle in the Tropical House
The air in a tropical house is unique. The sun shines brightly through the glass greenhouse roof; the air is so humid that it is hard to breathe, so hot that all pores open up in panic at once, and so filled with scents that you don't know where to smell first.
It smells green, over-wet to musty, tropical, floral, alive, pulsating, sultry.
At the same time, the body relaxes in a tropical house, perhaps from exhaustion, but certainly also due to the meditative way one winds through the aisles, observing the unusual plants.

Solano, actually named after a hot wind from Spain, reminds me more of the above scenario than of hot winds.
Freshly sprayed, I initially smell Davana in a rather fruity and - I find - quite alcoholic expression. In combination with the sweet and quite lushly pronounced Ylang-Ylang, it forms the tropical house image in my mind. It instantly relaxes me in my head (perhaps this feeling is what other commentators have already referred to as a "spa" feeling) and oddly stimulates me at the same time: I feel the urge to inhale the scent, finding it exceptionally attractive and sensual.

I can't quite determine where the little bitter-sweet chocolate truffle in the tropical house suddenly comes from after about 45 minutes: from the gentle patchouli, from the tonka bean? But it mixes in nicely and gives the floral tropical air a new, almost gourmand twist (however, please do not confuse it with coconut-pineapple-Tiaré tropical scents; this scent is by no means that!).
The air becomes warmer, deeper, and in a completely different way, even more attractive. This warm tonka-patch scent stays beautifully close to me all day long. Davana and Ylang-Ylang slowly but surely fade into the background.
Before my tests and the purchase of the scent, I read the reviews here on this page and must say that I cannot agree with the cake association for myself. On my skin, it simply becomes too mature/bitter for cake. The sweetness here is more floral/fruity than sugary in nature.

I see the scent, despite its sweetness, the initial floral lushness, and its certain dry-down darkness, in summer. The summer heat supports the spa-like tropical house feeling, and despite all its facets, this scent is never loud or intrusive. The sillage is quickly more skin-close.

I am, as you may have noticed, seriously in love with this beautiful scent. So much so that I have dedicated my first review to it.

Yummy!
A very delicious-smelling perfume. It strongly reminds me of Soleil Blanc.

Sunset at the beach, alongside a dessert with vanilla and the last hints of sunscreen fade away.

But it has power and is quite heavy, yet pleasant and not overpowering.

Probably not a scent for everyone as it doesn't suit every man due to its sweetness.

Extremely interesting scent, it's masculine herbal/peppery at first then becomes quite unisex an almost honeyed flowers & amber dry-down.

Creamy floral on a sweet balsamic-ambery base. Feminine. Great performance.

Ylang with tonka is often used, but the davana seems to soften it, even though I can't identify it here: creamy and rounded.

Starts off like creamy marzipan with a smoky twist. Ylang + very sweet tonka bean finish it off. Gourmand floral, I'm out.

Not bad, but not for me. At first, it's green floral, a bit sweaty, then it turns creamy sweet with a Ylang vibe. You have to like it.

I, slathered in fine sunscreen, nibble on cookie dough in the sun. Sounds weird, but it feels like that ;)
