The Animalic perfume to rule them all
This to me is the best animalic perfume ever created. Oh, and I am a huge lover of animalic perfumes, I've sampled pretty much all, and own most.
I'm baffled that this exceptional work of art doesn't seem to get much attention, and not many perfumistas talk about it.
This is an anmialic that has it all. Complexity is very high, one will not get bored wearing and exploring this beauty. It's quite linear from start to finish, but the amalgam of notes and accords makes the journey one of a kind, and one discovers new nuances every other wear.
In short, this perfume is sexual. Yes, sexual, filthy, not sexy. This is sex, intimacy, bodily odor, and fluids. If pheromones would have a descriptive scent, it would be this.
In other words, this perfume has several facets that are perceivable and that coalesce to create the final result. There are spices, mostly cumin, and aromatic notes like parsley, and chamomile. There is also an agrestic nature in here, the smell of grass, hay, and wildflowers. There are woods, and resins, mostly labdanum and styrax, but I wouldn't say that this perfume is a resinous experience, if anything, these two resins give a smoky vibe to Peau de Bete. And the big players here, the civet, castoreum(the leather accord here), and skatole. The three of them are the core players, with all the other notes and accords dancing around them.
The scent is musky, spicy, earthy, grassy, a bit smoky, and leathery. Quite fascinating, there is a prominent creamy, buttery texture that others have also mentioned. Salty as well. Do you see where is this going? Musky, creamy, salty. The skin of the Beast might just as well have been named Human Skin. The smell of human skin after a long night of sexual interplay. But not in a bed, but rather on the wet grass and soil.
One would think, do I want to smell like this? It's artistic for sure, but do I want to wear it? Here is where this perfume shines once again and sets itself apart from the other animalic creations. The perfumer somehow managed to take all this untamed, shameless dirtiness in Peau de Bete, and give it a beautiful sophistication, smoothness, almost elegance. The sillage and projection are low, which means, only you, the wearer, will be able to fully appreciate it, and only those that come close to you. Who would have thought, an uber animalic composition, that can be worn anywhere, anytime, almost like a second skin, an extension of one's identity?
I could go on and on about why I believe this perfume is a work of genius, but I would stop here and plead for all animalic, skanky perfume lovers out there to try this one. You will not be disappointed.
Also, this one didn't make the cut for what is deemed as commercially acceptable, therefore, it's not going to be around for long.

Masterpiece, hidden gem...
This is a masterpiece guys ! This fragrance has no heart notes and the way it smells sooo unique so artistic, earthy leathery..really gives you the smell lf wet grass in a foggy winter morning in the countryside ( not the best smell and in fact its abit daring but that smell has fortunatly a polished character which makes it wearable ) ..its a piece of art, you can wear it or not but it is. Its not about quality or performance its just ART.

I reccomend to smell this one if you like Musc Ravageur

Animalic to its core!
I like a good animalic scent, and this is one! Still not my favourite from Liquides Imaginaire, but it smells like I spent a whole day in the stables. It sticks to me like a second skin, and I'm super comfortable in it. Castoreum, civet and leather stand out the most, but I can feel a little hint of chamomile and grass that soften it a bit. Extremely well done.

The Prime Scent of Life
I chose one of the most controversial
fragrances for my first comment.
Peau de Bete!
One of the candidates that rarely provokes as much ambivalence in people as this one, because it is very human.
In my opinion, PdB is not a fragrance, but more of a
scent.
This perfume creates in a person the feeling of being with a beloved animal.
This scent reminds me of all my dogs, of my beloved riding horse from my youth!
But also of the circus, when you walked past the big cat cage.
I only know one single fragrance that smells similar...Dzing by Artisan, and it's no coincidence that a lady riding a tiger adorns the bottle!
The deepest animalistic and familiar warmth emanates from this scent.
People who grew up with animals might understand this fragrance better, I can imagine!
A person can smell like this too, namely the favorite person.
Completely without deodorant, body creams, and perfumes.
This intimacy is projected by PdB!
Nothing else!!!
It is not the horrible beast or the slaughtered animal skin.
It is living and pulsating skin.
It is not a scent to impress others or to please; it enhances the self.
You have to be able to smell yourself to wear it.
And that,...not everyone can do!

As for the technical aspects, it has achieved its goal.
The longevity is about 6 to 8 hours, which is sufficient.
The sillage is not animalistically loud. It is moderate and later close to the body.
The bottle is, like the whole series, mystical, sacred, and heavy.
It suits people who are unconventional, anarchistic, and controversial.
So, already a match for ME!!!

So...that's it!
I’m going to cuddle my dog now because my sample is all gone.
And by the way....I let my wife sniff the beast too; she found it very "cuddly" but had no idea which monster it was.
It was on my upper arm.
A fragrance always starts in the mind!
And with the person who wears it!

Indecent
So what now?!

There is always some lamenting here (I definitely count myself among them :D), that most new fragrances either all smell somewhat the same or that even niche brands are merely reinterpreting one idea after another and thus not reinventing the wheel. In the worst case, perfumes are interchangeable or arbitrary.

And when a brand dares to do something different, the "unbearable" outcry is immediate (I don't exclude myself from that either).

As soon as I read the pyramid of Peau de Bête, I knew that the listed ingredient skatole would not do the fragrance any favors, and the statements confirmed this impression completely.
Where it says "poop," you have to be able to smell it, right?

Before I unleash a shitstorm here (I just couldn't resist): I am aware that everyone has their own perception of scents and that people react differently to various smells. I also know the phenomenon of smelling something that many others cannot perceive.
On the other hand, I am often intrigued by those fragrances that are pushed into the stinky corner by many, just to test them. In the end, it is the personal scent impression that counts.

Last Saturday we were in Hanover, and as always, we made a stop at Liebe.

When I spotted Peau de Bête on the upper shelves, it was immediately clear which fragrance I wanted to test, so I approached one of the completely overwhelmed saleswomen to spray the scent on me, allowing it to develop during the rest of our city stroll (and not think about the negative statements in the forum).

Admittedly, right after spraying, Peau de Bête is not exactly soft or pleasing, but I did not perceive the fragrance as a stinker.
The top note is very spicy, and especially the pepper takes charge in the first few minutes. To my surprise, the cumin holds back.

Gradually, Peau de Bête becomes sweeter, earthier, and yes, also more animalistic. Although I do not tend to assign gender, I cannot really imagine the scent on a woman, but that is just a side note. By the way, from the heart note onwards, I had the feeling that the scent seemed somehow familiar to me.

With the base, the corporeality does increase, but the fragrance did not become unpleasant or stinky even in this phase. Rather, I found Peau de Bête pleasantly indecent and not unerotic. I would describe the scent as leathery, slightly sweet, and musky.
My husband also liked the fragrance exceptionally well, and he too could not smell a "pile" even in the base.

Since we had a coffee date with AnneSuse and Murmel that afternoon, I was able to put it to the test.
I held the scented spot under both of their noses, and both found the fragrance pleasant. Only after that did I mention in passing which fragrance it was.

By the way, I recently read that skatole was often used in perfumes in the past, mostly when a fragrance was supposed to have a certain erotic effect.

My conclusion: Peau de Bête is certainly not a fragrance for the masses. It belongs more in the category of Kouros or Rien by ELdO (the scent reminded me of that). I can also imagine that one must be very careful with the dosage here, and I think the fragrance should not be worn on fabric but exclusively on the skin to develop a pleasant effect.

The longevity was very good, and if you overlook the rather loud opening, the sillage was rather restrained.

Those who do not like animalistic scents should stay away from Peau de Bête; everyone else is advised not to primarily search for the poop note but to simply remain open.
As so often, the quantity, the imagination, and one's own scent sensitivity create the stink.

A tea-like mix of chamomile, herbs, musty spices.
Leathery, smoky resins merge with creamy musk.
Smells rural - damp soil, grass and woods.

Leathery skin, a little sweaty but not utterly funky. Gotta love animalics to appreciate this. And cumin.

A well groomed stallion proudly standing in a muddy field of smoky hay. Wonderful grassy, resinous sweetness makes it VERY wearable.

This smells like having sex on a farm (I say with no experience on that). Dry hay, funky animalic musks, tractor tires, turned dirt, sweat.

This smells like horses to me, in the best way possible. An excellent animalic scent.

This rather pungent and challenging, animalic smoky spicy-green fragrance, settles to a more gentle animalic/leathery, dry earthy-woody base

Sensational close-combat stinker and distance keeper, fascinatingly nasty close to the skin: wet dog, cumin sweat, unwashed skin.

It doesn't do anything!
Camphor-spicy patchouli,
becomes smoky and leathery.
Animalic, subtle, and brief.
I can't sniff out any feces.
