Relatively subtle cocoa-led gourmand
Sampling Maison Tahite Cacao2 (stylized with the “2” as a superscript), a delicious, dry cocoa blend with various hints in the background, namely of coffee, woods, and resins. It’s not an overly sweet blend, with a bit of the sharp, dry cocoa powder concept, and it frankly smells a little floral or patchouli-laden, even, with something bright and a little feminine in the mix, but that could just be the effects of the resins. Overall, I quite like it as a mostly-gourmand that’s not too over the top.

Performance is moderate but the price is great, at $120 for 100ml in EDP concentration , on par with the rest of the line, and it’s fairly rare for a non-designer company to be around $1/ml.

Dark Cocoa Powder
Nothing to say about this very well constructed (almost) solinote. It smells exactly like bitter cocoa powder, the kind used for cakes, of excellent quality and slightly spicy by its own nature. Toward the end it veers to a cinnamon note and vague woody hints of unexpected maturity and character. Kinda masculine, it would smell very charming on a man

Cacao²
Opens very, very boozy, like cognac or something, and has a rich bittersweet chocolate as a secondary note. Strongly reminding me of the Polish liquor filled chocolates that I ate too many of as a kid. There's a much better quality chocolate here though.

Once all the brandy fumes burn off, after about 40 mins, whats left is the richest dark chocolate you can imagine. Like melt a 90% cacao bar with a little carton of single cream and take a sip, that's how rich this is.

Ngl, Cacao² is utterly delicious and a very, very realistic gourmand- but I'm not sure I like it so much as a perfume. Both the boozy liquor opening and the cacao dry down have these fruity aspects to them and what with the richness of this scent, it just gets bit much on me. I actually felt a little bit drunk and heartburny wearing this, but that could well have just been the scent memory it's tied to. Don't give liquor filled chocolates to 6 year olds, lmao.

Lasts for about 10 hours with a moderate to low intensity, arms length sillage for the first 5h or so.

This is a cold weather perfume, it's far too rich and heavy for anything above about 10c.

Hoping now that this has been sprayed a few times it'll oxidise a bit and calm down the intensity of that cognac/brandy stuff in the opening, I'm going to give it a month or so before I try wearing this again and see.

Labdanum Powder
I find that the bitter note dissipates quickly and ends in a very strong, powdery sweet labdanum cloud, which also somewhat reminds me of beeswax.

I bought the fragrance after being thrilled by Carnal Cacao, without having tried it before the purchase.

At first, the stronger bitter note makes the fragrance somehow exciting, but I underestimated the influence of labdanum, which is one of the materials that I usually don't like very much.

Overall, it's not a bad perfume, but personally, it leans too sweet in a bitter and woody direction; it reminds me too much of powder scent.

The longevity is quite good; it doesn't come off as overpowering and develops nicely into its base note form, but it seems more suitable for men who enjoy gourmand notes with a slightly bitter aftertaste.

Anyone who likes labdanum can definitely go for this; for me, it was precisely this ingredient that made me not want to smell it too much on myself.

It reminds me a bit of Le Lion by Chanel, where labdanum also appears most dominant to me.

Dark Chocolate by the Home Fireplace or Overdose of Brown Gold!
Cacao squared sounds incredibly tempting! At home, wrapped in a blanket, the fireplace crackling, and a warm cocoa with dark chocolate, a hint of cream, and cinnamon. That is my idea of coziness.

However, the first spray delivers a real bitter chocolate punch! This is definitely an acquired taste and not an everyday scent. I can understand if someone wrinkles their nose at first. In fact, I had hoped for a more harmonious fragrance composition. In winter and on cold autumn days, 2 sprays are enough, as the perfume tends to become overwhelming quickly, and then it almost becomes uncomfortable for me. Sillage and longevity are therefore very good, and the bottle fits perfectly with the name.

Over time, it becomes a bit softer, but the bitter note remains. To smell the vanilla in the base note, you really have to sniff closely. Amber and vetiver also keep a low profile.

Conclusion:
This should not be a blind buy just because it sounds good. There will be differing opinions on this, and not everyone will like it. I need the right moments to spray it on. Not suitable for daily wear, work, or sports. More of a scent for visiting the Christmas market.

Think old dark cocoa powder used in baking, opened for too long. Then, surprising warmth from the resin, that turns meaningless quickly.

You ever eaten Polish liquor filled chocolates? This has a better quality dark chocolate to it but the exact same misc brown liquor aspect.

At first, cinnamon hits (too) strong, after it's like a softly melting chocolate to my nose with a faint cinnamon.
Good longevity.

One of the most realistic dark chocolate, well done, linear, great price/value, unisex. Other notes mostly hidden.

Like smearing a cinnamon milk chocolate bar all over my body with ambery touches. So authentic it's more confectionery novelty than perfume.

Delicious! I'm not a big gourmand lover, but this was an instant buy, esp. for the price! ($120 USD) Niche gourmand that will please many!

Oh beautiful. And unexpectedly dark. It smells very strong and authentic like cocoa powder. Bitter and beautifully dry.
