Pleasant vanilla gourmand

Maison Tahite VaneXtasy is my final try of the house from my two sample sets, and fittingly, a vanilla-led fragrance with a bit of coconut/caramel/milky/floral supporting cast, light while still being decadently sweet, a nice additional option in this catalogue of many gourmands and several other vanilla fragrances. I quite like it, even if it’s not at the very top of my list of the house or its vanillas. It’s definitely worth trying, as I can say of most of the house, especially for gourmand lovers, who will find plenty of not only vanilla, but also coffee and chocolate, in this house.

Like the rest of the line, this is priced at $120 for 100ml in EDP concentration (sold at Luckyscent and other boutiques), very reasonable for niche perfumery in today’s market, and the fragrance performs well.

The name is misleading - unlike the fragrance

With VaneXstasy I expected an ultra-heavy vanilla gourmand, about "Tobacco Vanilla (Eau de Parfum) | Tom Ford" level.
A typical fragrance reminiscent of Christmas, unwearable in summer and pleasantly stifling.

I was completely surprised, as it turned out. VaneXstasy starts very unobtrusive and rather unspectacular. Coconut can be detected relatively clearly, especially after you know it.
From caramel I smell here honestly nothing.
But vanilla is also present from the start. But here came the surprise for me. I perceive here no vanilla, as I have them in all the sweet fragrances ( "Tobacco Vanilla (Eau de Parfum) | Tom Ford" Layton | Parfums de Marly" and and and). VaneXstasy reminds me from the first moment rather like sticking my nose into a jar of vanilla beans, not cut or rubbed off.

Unlike apparently many others here, I perceive this vanilla note as exceedingly natural. Quite without artificial sweetness and far from vanilla sugar, as some describe this scent, true. The woods form a nice base for the fragrance and complement the impression of the natural, herbal vanilla bean, without really being present-isolated in the foreground.

All in all, VaneXstasy flows in a very linear fashion. I do not hear any great fragrance development, it remains virtually the same from spraying on to the drydown to its disappearance. Only a small bit of sweetness joins with time.
For me, this is quite positive, I like the fragrance with its natural impression extremely well and it creates insofar self-confidence and calm, asdassich you always know how you smell approximately, even if you do not smell yourself just once.

The Tahité is for me a great opportunity to wear vanilla outside of the winter without being immediately noticeable. A way to put on some self-confidence and uniqueness, without imposing itself on the environment.

To say a quick word about the bottle: I find the simple, but thoughtful brown bottle extremely beautiful and handy, in addition exceedingly handsome in a collection. Also the price-performance ratio is top at about 90€ for 100ml!

Sweet wanderlust from a bottle vs. a tour of a Cuban cigar factory

With this perfume I noticed again clearly how differently one perceives fragrances on different days!

Perception at the 1st test: a beautifully milky opening with a creamy, not too sweet coconut, joined by a grown-up woody-balsamic note with a subtle vanilla, which does not fall with the door in the house.
It reminds me a bit of Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen, which I used to get a lot of compliments on the scent of when I wore it in the summer, but the sweet, tropical florality is missing here.
Well matched with spicy woodiness, I feel transported back to Bali, strolling through Monkeyroad, past backpackers sitting in the little bars and restaurants, speeding scooter riders everywhere or splashing in the infinity overlooking the jungle.
I can't help but think of a spa in India, colorful Hindu temples and warmed air in the evening after a hot day.
I remember the beautiful quiet beach on the Mexican island of Holbox, the scent relaxing and triggering head cinemas. If one thinks, the weakens but now, he gives yet again gas and and I feel like thick sweet-woody creamed.
The drydown I find just as lovingly and sensually made as the prelude.

So far, so good!
On the next test a day later, I smell only tobacco vanilla blossom.
From front to back. In itself a nice smell, it would be quiet in the background, but now I smell NOTHING else and it seems very monotonous.
Now I've read that the tobacco note has been mentioned in previous reviews, but this today was too much ashtray association for me!
A bit sad and irritated I let it fizzle on the wrist and am eager for another day of testing.

The family humidor

The fragrance came as a suggestion displayed at the dealer. Honestly, I found the bottle not exactly appealing, but more about that later. However, I found the name exciting and treated me to a look at the fragrance pyramid. I love coconut and vanilla. Sorry, I'm really simple-minded.
So he came as a filling still with in the order.

Fragrance is there and was immediately applied to paper and wrist. I close my eyes and immediately have a nice holiday feeling. I think of tropical nights in Thailand and Bali. A soft vanilla dances on my skin and blends with silky coconut milk. Then there's a very brief menage a troi with the caramel. The haunting doesn't last long and the scent gets more serious. What's coming through? Tobacco? Leather? Wood? It reminds me very much of a cigar homidur. It smells like cedar and blond tobacco. A fine, delicate, soft, light tobacco. Is this perhaps the Peru balsam? I don't know that one and I'll just put it down to that. In any case, it gives the scent a super twist, a bit of a tartness. This also makes it so unisex in my eyes (my nose). This is a family scent, really everyone can wear it. Husband, wife, aunt, uncle, sister, brother, brother-in-law ....

When would I wear it? Since I just had it on, he first came along to the shopping. After that was the Sunday dinner at in-laws announced. He did well there.
I imagine how I wear him to the 80th birthday of my dad. We sit comfortably together and leaf through the photo book, what we have given him and talk about the good old days. About the racetrack, about horses, about the pictures where he is still with a cigar. We think about the mom who is no longer with us and rejoice in his new family and 2nd wife.
Maybe we will take a walk in the autumn forest together with the dog.
In the evening I sit with my husband comfortably together. We both wear this fragrance and let the evening end with a good book or a game of chess. Should I play on "Queen's Gambit" ...? (I found the series on Netflix great and the fragrance also reminds me a bit of it).

Verdict: A warm scent with a buttery soft vanilla and light coconut milk, a bright warm tobacco note (nothing smoky, cold or anything). This combines with cedar and sandalwood. A round cozy leisure scent.
I'm not entirely sure about the vanilla. I like it a lot. It is exactly the kind of vanilla I am looking for. I'm also just a layman. In my nose, it's not a YSL or Guerlain vanilla - it's softer, rounder, and doesn't perfom quite as long. I'm sure a lot of people won't like it that much. So always test first nice;-).

Criticism: The durability is indeed not so dolle. After about three hours you can already like to put something. Maybe you can here with a Molecule fragrance (Molecule 01 or JhaG Not a Parfum) something layer and increase the shelf life. An orange note (tangerine, mango maybe orange) I could also imagine well to it. For this I will also experiment again something.

Back to the bottle. Maybe not beautiful but still very practical. The pharmacy bottle protects, thanks to the dark glass, the contents from sunlight.

The brand: Maison Tahité has emerged from a project / fragrance workshop. The first line from it refers to gourmondige fragrances with the raw material vanilla. In addition, the brand has written sustainability on the flag. This is reflected in the packaging, which is made of recycled cardboard. The labels are made from almond shells and a vegetable-based adhesive is used. Apparently, each package also comes with a small planting card. This can be used to raise a flower/plant.

At least this fragrance made it onto my wishlist. No firecracker but something cozy, familiar can not hurt the fragrance wardrobe.
