Excellent gourmand, well-blended. Sweet and spicy cacao, rose, rum, etc.

Maison Tahite Vicious Cacao involves cacao, rose, pepper, rum, amber, florals, resins, and woods. It’s dark and sweet, with spicy hints, as well, keeping everything in balance. It’s among my very favorites of the line so far (along with Coffee Bomb), and reminds me more than perhaps any fragrance has of the brilliant Gourmand Coquin by Guerlain,, while being a little more chocolately and less sharp/spicy/rosy. It’s cozy but provocative, idiosyncratic but inviting, a real gem of a mostly-gourmand blend that I could see being a winter staple for many. Very impressive.

As with the rest of the line, Vicious Cacao performs quite well and is very reasonably priced, at $120 for 100ml, sold at Luckyscent (where I bought a discovery set) as well as a couple other US retailers.

Lightly Tipsy Cocoa with Wonderful Different Facets

Vicious Cacao is a truly beautiful fragrance.
In short, it has a tipsy cocoa note. Sounds strange, but it really smells good.

At the beginning, you immediately get this sweet cocoa note.
Cocoa is listed as a heart note, but I can feel the cocoa right from the start.

Along with the cocoa comes this alcoholic note. The rum makes the cocoa come across as subtly tipsy.
And then there’s the raspberry that lightens everything up a bit.

Over time, the fragrance becomes sweeter, but above all creamier and more powdery.

There are several gourmands, including some with chocolate. Among the chocolatey gourmands, I find this one the best because it simply has a few more twists.

The fragrance also plays with a wonderful spiciness and ends up with woody nuances.

I find the performance of the fragrance completely acceptable.
The longevity was very good, while the sillage was a bit weaker.

A Cloud of Cocoa

One spray is enough, and you feel as if a pack of cocoa powder has exploded in front of you, and you are now standing in the midst of this large, intense, chocolatey, dusty cloud.

Quickly, rum and the scent of spicy gingerbread cookies join in - all in all, a very spicy and bitter grand opening.

However, the opening does not last long, and in the drydown, it still smells bitter and spicy close to the skin, but a scent of chocolate toffees (caramel note) breaks through outwardly. Not cloyingly sweet, but seemingly sweet enough to stand up to the woods and oak moss. Saffron is sprinkled delicately on top.

A special gourmand that you inevitably want to sniff all day long and would love to nibble on. I just wish the opening lasted a bit longer or that the heart and base notes lingered in the background for a while. Nevertheless, a lovely scent for the colder season.

Lasts all day on me (8-10h) on the skin.

An adult, serious gourmand

You don't get a juicy cake to bite into here, certainly not with a sticky caramel layer - instead, Vicious Cacao is a somehow dry, bitter, woody gourmand, sweet but not sticky. I don't perceive any fruitiness at all; personally, I don't even smell a small, dried raspberry. But that doesn't bother me.

Especially in the opening, there's a lot of woody rum, smoky spices, and intense, dark cocoa - all the while, there's a caramel creaminess that definitely has addictive potential and makes the scent feel friendly and warming. This cocoa-caramel note has a decent intensity, but it is very understated: in the first two hours, a delicious scent fills the air with every movement, without being intrusive. However, if you get too close to the skin with your nose at the beginning, the scent becomes quite harsh. Too much spice, too much smoke. It has a bit of an old wooden cupboard vibe in the grandparents' kitchen, where the aromas of dark chocolate, Werther's Originals, spices, and grandpa's rum aged in wooden barrels mix - it smells great when passing by, but when you stick your nose in, it's a bit too strong. At the same time, the bitter notes prevent the sweetness from becoming too dominant.

Shortly thereafter, the harshness of the scent also diminishes near the skin, but at the same time, the scent quickly becomes quite weak and close to the body. It doesn't last a whole day on my skin.

A very interesting, unique scent, but it's a bit too harsh for me at the beginning, and later I miss some depth. Longevity and sillage are too low for me.

Once upon a time, it was the beginning of my fragrance journey. I had just started to get a taste for this hobby, and my collection consisted of maybe 3-4 scents. I talked a lot about perfume with a very good friend, and she recommended Vicious Cacao to me. And what did I do? I ordered it blind.

Looking at the notes and after her recommendation, I was almost certain it must smell beautiful! Oakmoss made me a bit skeptical - I wasn't familiar with that note yet. But when I finally got to try this perfume, I was blown away.

The fragrance experience begins with the bottle along with the spray mist. The bottle reminds me of old apothecary bottles. However, in a truly luxurious way. The spray mist is delicate and enveloping. And the most important thing - I am surrounded by the most delicious and interesting gourmand I have ever smelled.

I no longer feel like I'm in a luxurious pharmacy, but in a rum cellar for connoisseurs. There’s rum, wooden shelves, indirect lighting, and the best pralines made of dark chocolate, caramel, and raspberries. Perhaps there’s also a bouquet of daffodils and jasmine in this room? Almost imperceptible to me - maybe just a tiny bouquet :-)

This perfume initially smells like a fruity, creamy chocolate liqueur that becomes softer and woodier over time. It melts on the tongue. I get Mon Chéri vibes. However, with raspberry instead of cherry. Mon Framboise?

In the drydown, it becomes woody, slightly earthy, caramel-like, and indeed also powdery. As if there’s powdered sugar on the pralines.

For me, truly the most interesting autumn/winter scent I have experienced in my entire fragrance journey. No gourmand has come close to Vicious Cacao.

For the past two years, it has accompanied me on cold days when you just want to snuggle up, and I especially wear it during the Christmas season. Every time, it brings me feelings of happiness!

The best blind buy ever. A hit!
