A Gourmand Musk?
I've worn this for a couple of days. Some aspects of it I like and some I don't.
On initial spray I got musk. MAAI fleetingly sprang to my mind. Not at all strong like MAAI but a dry, dusty, animalic overtone and soapy.
By the time the liquid had dried on my skin I got lemon and ginger, followed by petitgrain and jasmine, and finally bergamot all with the tiniest, faintest chocolate note (hardly there at all)..
Gosh this was hopeful.
But, here in a moment, gone in a flash, 15 minutes and I was left with a lemony musk on the skin with wafts of sweet chocolate coming to my nose.
It is one of those perfumes that I have no idea what I would smell like to other people as at this stage my skin just smelt lemony musk but I could smell a slightly sweet vanilla chocolate around me.
I didn't get any feeling of rum but having never smelt any of the Rum Accords that are used in perfume making I don't know what I would be looking for. Anyway, it doesn't smell like Captain Morgan's.
An hour in and it was much stronger, the citrus all but gone, sweet vanilla chocolate, heavy, overwhelming musks, trailing all over the house. At this stage there was far too much of the sweet vanilla chocolate for my taste, and the musks felt quite heady. There was a touch of waxy floor polish thickness. I found a vague woodiness but nothing in particular.
By the two to three hour mark it was back to a soft skin scent, perhaps slightly dirty vanilla/chocolate musk, the fragrance all but gone. If it comes roaring back I'll update the review but it might not as I applied it yesterday evening and by morning there was nothing left on my skin.
I liked the early part of the wear (first half hour) with all the floral citrus dabbed with spice but the middle hours were far too sweet, sticky, heavy, cloying vanilla chocolate musk. Maybe it is a too gourmand for my tastes and my overall impression is that of a gourmand musk.
I found it interesting, fun to try but it isn't the one I am looking for and as my nan used to say, " You don't know what you want and you wont be happy 'til you get it." Wise woman my nan.
