A modern masterpiece for the masses
Dior Sauvage is a fragrance you have probably heard and seen everywhere so far. Whether was it in the Eau de Parfum form or in other releases and iterations of the Sauvage line, it is highly unlikely one doesn’t know what the best-selling Dior men’s fragrance smells like.

Here are my 5 quick takes:

1. The best “blue” fragrance on the market
2. Created by Francois Demachy in 2018 as a flanker to the original Sauvage from 2015
3. Wearable during all seasons of the year, and fits in any situation
4. Lasts 8 – 10 hours with very good projection with intoxicating sillage
5. The most popular designer fragrance from the last decade

If you are just starting your fragrance journey or looking for a great versatile fragrance that you can wear in any situation and in any season of the year, Sauvage is a great choice for you.

Let’s not forget that Sauvage is easily the best fragrance gift you can give to someone you don’t know that well and want to be safe while giving something from the luxury brand Dior.

It might not be your or even mine holy grail perfume, but we have to give credit where it’s due, and cannot close our eyes about how big this perfume is and how it shaped modern perfumery, for all of its good and all of its bad sides.

Sauvage Family of Fragrances - Excellent and Versatile
This is a combined review of Sauvage EDT, EDP, Parfum and Elixir after having tested all four on consecutive days. The Sauvage line, in general, is very popular for a reason. These are excellent, masculine fragrances that are very versatile, working any time of the day, any day of the year, hot or cold or in between. They are also very people pleasing in that most who smell these perfumes on a guy will say they are pleasant scents and attractive. Thus, they are all an easy grab for most situations. They also work for most men of any age. Dior quality is evident in all four perfumes.

There is a concern about the popularity and not standing out with them or being unique. I can't address that aspect because I live in a rural area where the vast majority of men do not wear any fragrance at all. So, no problem for me.

Regarding how different the four perfumes are from each other, I'd say the Sauvage DNA is quite clearly shared in the EDT, EDP and Parfum while the Elixir is more distant. As an analogy, I'd say the EDT, EDP and Parfum are like brothers while the Elixir is a cousin. Still, the EDT, EDP and Parfum are sufficiently unique that it isn't redundant to own all three if you like the different aspects of each.

To sum up these aspects, the EDT is more citrusy, the EDP is smoother, rounder and creamier than the EDT while the Parfum is a more woody version of the EDP. The Elixir is a more warm spicy fragrance with touches of cinnamon and licorice.

If a guy is unsure about which to get, I highly recommend purchasing samples of all four and wearing each on separate consecutive days. That's what I did. This is a much better approach than sniffing all four on test strips in a store. My personal choice is to go with the EDP and the Elixir as I do not have a goal to own all four just for the sake of a complete collection. Of course this is subjective, but the EDP and the Elixir were the most appealing to me.

Performance of the EDT, EDP and Parfume are all quite good with the EDP having the best performance for me. The Elixir is in a class by itself - a truly beast mode fragrance that requires experimentation to determine the quantity to apply. It can easily become overwhelming if too much is applied. The Elixir allows you to fill a room and leave a trail for sure!

The best Sauvage
Having owned the EDT and tried the Parfum, I can confidently say the EDP stands out as the best of the Sauvage line. It strikes the perfect balance—bold, smooth, and refined—making it an ideal signature scent. While some may call it overplayed, I can't help but love how it smells on me. The EDP takes everything great about the original and elevates it, with a richness that sets it apart. For me, it outshines even the Elixir, which takes second place. 9/10

A richer deeper and in the same time smoother
I prefer this version rather than the EDT because it is smoother and softer, ingredients are balanced in a better way in my opinion.
It retains the same DNA as Sauvage EDT, but develops it with more freshness and elegance.
I like to wear what I want, free from any label and convention, I consider this softer but more masculine version, the best suited to me.
Wonderful perfume, seductive, I would say excellent.

Thanks to vanilla and subtle sweetness, EdP appears rounder and more harmonious than EdT. Besides, ambroxan is restrained. It did a good job

It’s like a great pair of jeans. Will someone else be wearing it? Yes. Should you care? I don’t think so.

I know it's a popular scent but I just can't bring myself to like it. This is THE high-end designer perfume. Not suitable for fans of niche

Much nicer and more mature than the EdT. Used it for about two years as my signature in the past. Overdone? Yes, but for good reason.

Synthetic, spicy, artificially sweetened. Pleasant in theory, but I personally can't get past the "sleazy youth pastor" vibe it gives me.

I feel that the edp its a more well rounded version with a added note of star anise and more vanilla, which makes it better for the evening

Sure it’s overplayed, but it’s not bad and it isn’t hurting anyone. Its scent is unmistakable, smell it once you’ll smell it everywhere.
