Ocean Lounge Escada 2009

Miezi, Sengana and Mountainstar are strawberry plant varieties of the finest and most aromatic kind, available from Gärtner P. in Kaarst.

So, the selection of strawberry varieties, basically the strawberry aroma elite. And who doesn’t love this scent? Even those I know who are allergic to strawberries, who immediately react with a rash upon consuming these little divine fruits, adore the fragrance of freshly picked red and sweet little seducers and suffer terribly from their health limitation.

Yes, then there is the variety Ocean Lounge, which is very suitable for allergy sufferers. Unfortunately, when using this variety externally, one must forgo provitamins A, B, and C, as well as the minerals calcium, sodium, potassium, iron, and phosphorus. Internal use is not recommended and isn’t worth it, as we only find Alcohol Denat. (which is also found in so-called "high-quality" fragrances) in small amounts. However, there is no risk that the 33 kcal per 100 g of strawberries will turn into a calorie bomb through cream, sugar, and sour cream.

From my perspective, there are more reasons to treat oneself to a bottle of this fragrance, aside from the fact that I purchased 30 ml for €19.95. Yes, I bought it! A little bit of LoveAstaire's good mood rubbed off on me, so I just went for it. The previously rather unpleasant Friday suddenly transformed into a good mood, strawberries in all variations, sand underfoot, lightness, fun, and extreme anticipation for summer. Not only the packaging and the color of the bottle convey this feeling. Ocean Lounge starts off so delicious and fruity that I have to think of strawberry-flavored chewing gum, strawberry lemonade, and Haribo sugar strawberries. Since all of these are positive memories, I immediately like this opening. It’s not quite the aroma strawberry from Gärtner P. in Kaarst, but it is with sugar and a few drops of strawberry aroma. Nevertheless, there is no strong aversion; it’s not that squeaky sweetness that I know from some cheap fragrances, I am surprised and remain so.

I don’t want to reduce Ocean Lounge to just strawberry, as that’s not how it is in the test. Passion fruit and mango are detectable. The fruity-exotic note persists, is refined, receives floral and woody additions, and in the base, one could even speak of a solid and skin-close note, thanks to cedar and a delicate musk and tonka note. So it is all easy to wear, doesn’t overwhelm, but rather floats lightly and seductively over the skin and hair. There’s no intense vanilla, and coconut has been avoided here. I do like coconut, but I rarely find this note in a pleasant, unartificial form in these cheaper summer fragrances.

This fragrance is actually wearable at all times. You don’t feel overly perfumed. It’s more like a fragrant fun that you allow yourself, which isn’t too intense (it’s an EDT). Ocean Lounge lifts the mood and enlivens the wearer like a strawberry-red exotic cocktail on crushed ice, enjoyed after a beautiful day and on the way home from the beach, with a view of the sunset on the horizon at an open beach bar, wearing a sarong, bikini, and sand underfoot.

Love & Peace

In this spirit, I ordered Escada - Ocean Lounge a few days ago, and this fragrance arrived yesterday.
Spring is just around the corner, minds are finding their way out of lethargy, thoughts are lighter, and the antennas of love are being extended.
Everything around me is turning green, I can smell the leaves, the psychedelic wheel of colors begins to spin and sprays its natural airbrush.
The best part is that spring is also a harbinger of summer,
and this is where my Escada and my neo-hippie feeling come into play:

I wanted a fragrance that matches my outfit: a purple-yellow tie-dye T-shirt with a black peace sign on it, a denim jacket, cut-off jeans with self-sewn logos, a coral necklace, a shell necklace, a leather necklace with a peace sign, quite a few rings with that same logo, Janis Joplin's head, Alice in Wonderland, the Cheshire Cat, or simple stones of energy. My wallet is a knitted bag adorned with Ganesha and Shiva. These days, I’m forgoing purchased cigarettes and rolling my own. A very thin fabric band, which my father brought me from Haiti, adorns my head.

for it is sweet, it smells of delicious strawberries, lychee, and plum,
I can't pick out the other notes, but who knows what that might be due to? ;) I don’t need it complicated these days, I don’t need a unique niche perfume, no ultimate, exclusive insider tip, no treasure worth hundreds of euros - tomorrow it could all be over for me, so why stress when it can be simple?
I want to live and enjoy my feeling of life, a beautifully psychedelic-looking bottle, a sweet scent, not complicated, not hard to grasp, not too demanding. On my "journeys," I want to focus on other impressions; my Ocean Lounge is just a companion but not the leader of the experience. Perhaps its influences transport me to a beach. The sun sets in front of me, behind me it rises again, and above me, the night hovers with its stars. I am livin' to love. Set & Setting, as they beautifully said in the 60s movement, this EDT provides my feel-good set.

Conclusion:

Whoever wants to be their own Alice in Wonderland for a moment,
to simply enjoy summer without overthinking,
to experience the moment and seek a faithful companion, should take this sweetness with them... the bottle is, by the way, a wonderful eye-catcher for your spiritual journeys, as one might think the colors draw you into its world, delightful... As sweet and light as Escada is, so sweet and light do I move, living in the now and here. If I feel like kissing, then I kiss; if I feel like stroking, then I stroke. I am and YOU are one of many flower children, and we should do what we feel like and what does us good.

A fresh summer scent and not a lemon in sight (apparently I'm still slightly traumatized from my Acqua di Gioia escapade yesterday).
By now, I have 3 of these Escada summer scents at home, my mom also had another one, and like most people here, I believe they only differ slightly from each other. They are all sweet and a bit aquatic. But always with a different fruit around which the whole fragrance is arranged. In the case of Ocean Lounge, it’s strawberry.
And that’s actually about it. A fresh, somewhat watery strawberry... an ice-cold strawberry smoothie. The other notes are hardly perceptible to me. Lychee and pear probably add the freshness, that typical freshness that apparently every one of these Escada summer scents has. I consider the base note to be a rumor, but I can still subtly perceive violet and poppy in the dry down.

I find the scent extremely successful. Sillage and longevity are fine. The scent lasts at least half a day without needing to bathe in it. The strawberry even smells somewhat natural. Not overly sugary and not synthetic at all. To call it high quality, it is certainly too simple, but as a feel-good scent, it is totally suitable. You wear it for yourself to brighten your mood, not for a big appearance.

Ocean Lounge smells totally like vacation to me. I would only wear it in my free time. In summer or as a shield against winter and other depressions. It simply exudes a lot of lightness and joy of life. It strikes me as rather youthful, but if worn at the right moment, age isn’t that decisive. I would rather pay attention to whether it fits the occasion-nothing formal.

The idea of summer scents isn’t so bad in my opinion. Escada wants to create a desire for summer, not impress with grand fragrances. Anyone who likes an Escada summer scent will probably enjoy all the others as well, but still feels like they are in tune with the times because a new one comes out every year. A really good marketing strategy! And for those who value variety, they simply won’t buy them.

Edit January 2017:
I am currently very positively surprised by H/S. I haven’t come across a summer scent that lasts this long and is consistently perceivable without being too present. Even in sub-zero temperatures.

a wonderful sparkling summer strawberry punch, not too sweet, not sticky, but refreshing.

A successful blend of fruits, the pear is also well noticeable alongside the strawberries, and fragrant flowers.
Well done, Escada!

I bought this scent on sale last summer. The next day I wore it to work, it was still very early in the morning and I made my rounds through the patient rooms. One of the patients had his eyes still closed and just wrinkled his nose twice, I thought well maybe the scent is too overpowering after all... later during the rounds I entered the room again and the patient smiled and said: "You were already here this morning? You smell so deliciously fresh like strawberries." I had to laugh and said yes.
The scent was also very well received by my colleagues. It is, as expected from Escada, sweet and fruity, but I don’t find this one too sweet; it has a fresh quality to it. At first, it is quite intense, you mainly smell the strawberry, which stays with me until the end. The floral notes join in and together with the vanilla they create a lovely base that makes me think of spaghetti ice cream :-)
