The original
Sì Eau de Parfum accompanied me for a while during my student days, but as it often goes, sometimes you grow out of such fragrances - and this is the case here as well. What has stayed in my memory is primarily the almost syrupy sweet blackcurrant opening, which could become almost piercing with too high a dosage. This blackcurrant note ran through the entire fragrance progression for me and gave the perfume its typical character.
In this respect, I was a bit anxious whether a flanker with Intense in the name would make the blackcurrant even more screechy and overshadow everything else that is included.
I can give the all-clear: That is not the case (at least on my skin). The blackcurrant disappears very quickly on me and makes way for a powdery vanilla. This reminds me more of "Sì (Fiori Eau de Parfum) | Giorgio Armani," which unfortunately has been discontinued. After that, not much happens; the fragrance simply becomes soft and cuddly, the patchouli that gave the original a bit of edge has been omitted here, making the scent feel much "tamer" to me. I imagine
Sì Eau de Parfum as a woman who knows what she wants and stands up for it, while
Sì (2023) Eau de Parfum Intense is more of a people pleaser and doesn't want to step on anyone's toes.
I find the drydown really nice, but somehow also not particularly exciting. It jumps on the well-known vanilla train and thus feels quite generic. Unfortunately, I don't perceive any tea at all, even though it had piqued my curiosity as a big tea lover. And with the very subdued blackcurrant here, the original felt significantly more intense to my nose.
I am truly not someone who puts niche fragrances on a pedestal and believes there is nothing exciting in the mainstream, but all the new releases lately have not really convinced me, as they simply rehash a successful formula (Looking at you, "Goddess | Burberry!")
In this respect, I find it a bit difficult to give my final assessment. Do I find the scent pleasant? Yes, indeed. Does it have a right to exist? I really don't know; for someone who doesn't have anything like it in their collection, maybe.
A fragrance (lightly dosed!) for the office, the cinema afterwards, cozy couch days, a true all-rounder. Longevity and sillage are average.
So my conclusion: You can do it, but you don't have to.
