Dirty, musky champaca
Afrah smells like a three-way clash between the heavy, fruity, musky aroma of champaca flowers, a licorice-like basil note, and the marine bilge unpleasantness of either ambergris or civet. The opening is heady and almost indolic/stinky with champaca, but the basil gives it a nice 'black' salted licorice lift. I give this attar points for originality, though. I have never smelled anything like it, and indeed, it does not smell like any of the other Amouage attars I have tried. It strikes as less oriental and more European in focus, perhaps. I kind of see where they were going with it.

I just find the civety stink of ambergris to not mesh well with the other notes. There is this heavy aroma of someone who doesn't have very good hygiene, or who simply has produces bad body odor due to some medical condition like glucose over-production. Worse yet, it is specifically the 'second day' smell imprint of their body and hair and discarded skins cells that lies about on the sheets of your bed for days after they've gone. Not a winner in my book, I'm afraid.

When you make a good Attar - surprise
It is a very good Attar de Amouage, not the best three in this house, but it may be that I was surprised by the Champaca, I think it is the first time when I use it the first time, I like a smell of a lemon that is overdone, the typical pink taif and sandal, at that time seems to smell a lipstick.

When it sits I perceive figs and plums, accompanied by Oud and Amber, in the background something human is noticed in the aroma, it can be the Amber.

In short a shame they have discontinued, so the 3/4 ml I have left are a personal gem.

Rosé Champagne in Dubai - this is how an Amouage should be!
Amouage is a label that I usually can't fully warm up to. The fragrances are certainly solid, but they generally don't quite match my idea of the magnificent Orient and the expectations I have of a fragrance label that emerged from the leadership of the Omani royal house; they are comparatively Western-oriented. An almost breathtakingly beautiful surprise was the first test of an attar from the house, Homage. Here I found all the splendor, quality, and oriental beauty that I would wish for. Of course, I was eagerly looking forward to the chance to test Afrah. The attars are outrageously expensive, but even this 0.1ml sample will be enough for me to indulge in it multiple times.

Afrah is a warm, floral oriental, whose quality impression is once again grand. The champaca magnolia provides a dense, slightly peach-like floral aroma, which, however, does not come across as girlish but rather mature. This naturally appearing scent is underlined by a balsamic, by no means animalistic oud and a dark rose note. The other notes are hard to identify precisely, but there seems to be so much softness beneath the fragrance that sandalwood and amber appear fitting. Afrah feels yellow-orange, sweet, magnificent, but also not really heavy. I perceive it as quite feminine and less suitable for men than Homage, which tends to be somewhat feminine as well. The whole thing also somewhat reminds me of a fruity, lovely rosé champagne - not that it smells exactly like that, but the scent evokes this association in me. I just prefer, if anything, the dry champagne, but even more a good whisky ;D.

A beautiful fragrance for women who are looking for something noble and rare. Not bad at all that the scent becomes too sweet/feminine for me - given the prices and availability :)

Sparkling, slightly "spiritueuse" champaca, captured by "physical" oud with rose and sandalwood in the background. Masterfully done!

A very beautiful scent. Unisex? Not really, I prefer to see or smell it on women. Very high-quality and complex.
