Amouage "Myths Woman"
A fellow perfumista once remarked (and I fully concur with this sentiment) that Amouage comes under fire no matter what sort of new fragrance they introduce. On the one hand, people moan that the company has set a low standard with un-Amouage-like scents such as “Lilac Love” or “Blossom Love” (a deviation from the company’s Arab roots is often quoted as the main complaint). Others, on the other hand, feel uncomfortable when Amouage releases a fragrance that does not follow suit, blaming its outlandish composition for its unwearability. “Myths Woman” is a case in point for the latter.

The thing that immediately struck me when I first sampled “Myths Woman” was how uninviting it smelt. Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t mean this is an unpleasant aroma, it just flatly refuses to play the usual repertoire of tricks. There are no seductive sweet notes, no tangy spiciness or soft woodiness. This is an outdoorsy perfume which transports you right into the middle of a narcissus-and-chrysanthemum flowerbed. In addition to the flowers, you can catch light whiffs of composted soil to intensify your experience of the “great outdoors”. In about two hours, the perfume invites you to enter a different place: a dimly lit bar. However, you can’t help noticing there’s something odd about it: it’s deserted and the only trace of human presence is a stale smell of sweat mixed with cigarette smoke.

There’s no doubt “Myths Woman” is a nod to leathery green chypres of a bygone era. It successfully emulates not only their composition, but also a trademark feature of this category of scents, namely an air of standoffishness. “Myths Woman” may never become the signature fragrance of “shiny, happy people”, yet I’m sure some daydreamers and wanderers will be able to uncover and bask in its rugged beauty.

Mossy narcissus
A good narcissus note is a perfume in itself. Myths Woman tells the story of this pretty spring flower and how it grows and blooms, while keeping things in a delicate harmony with the supporting greens. The scent starts on a dark winter day and slowly progresses to early spring.

With the dank galbanum in the opening, the first impression tends towards wilted flower water. Dark and austere, almost depressed. The galbanum note recedes, but the narcissus continues to rise and shine. Grandpa's socks, honeyed hay, pollen-rich flower fields in spring.. they all come by as the narcissus displays its numerous facets. This all takes place on a dark earthy moss field, the ideal stage for this green-floral performance. The story ends with a narcissus in full bloom. Yellow-gray sparkles fill the air. It is still chilly cold, but the darkest days are behind us now.

This scent leaves a cold-hearted "leave me alone" impression to most of us. It may remind one of green chypres of the old days, think Scherrer. For me personally, the green-bitter nature and the way narcissus is used here makes me feel at home. Comfortable all by myself. Bliss.

Witchy leather-narcissus
This is the ballsiest Amouage I have smelled and own. Witchy McWitchface. Someone living in a forest hut, brewing potions from flowers, herbs and grasses stacked up in the hut. The air is hot and humid, the flowers are withering, she's too warm but doesn't stop, just keeps brewing. I love it, I have always loved it, but to this day I am flabbergasted how Amouage had the courage to release this. Miss those good old days.

Beautiful epic scent of nature

AMOUAGE MYTHS Woman
Nathalie Lorson (2016)

I love to challenge myself and trying to find my limits with unique polarizing scents. This was my latest obsession and I think this is the one I used time the most trying to imagine the scent in my head. I managed to do it very well.

In the opening this is Narcissus and Violet Leaves for a fleeting moment and after that it really is dark green scent from vet flowers (green parts) which has been in the vase for a while mixed with a scent from a wet grass wich is just cutted with a lawnmower. I was thinking that no one wants to create that kind of scent if it wouldn’t be something beautiful and I was right. That scent here is something really addictive, calming and it reminds me of a beautiful nature which has been big part of my life. It reminds me of my childhood when spending time with my grandfather on the fields and getting rid of weeds with my hands and running in the fresh grass. I don’t think this is difficult to love if you just love dark greenish scent of plants. Sniffing straight away my arm it’s exactly what I get (I mean what I described) but around me the scent is really alluring and a way more abstract, very pleasant and unique. I don’t get any leather like I’m used to. This is mossy but not a dry one.

Top: Narcissus, Violet Leaves, Galbanum
Heart: Carnation, Patchouli, Ambergris Accord
Base: Leather, Moss, Musk

Just marvelous!

Dark Green Goodness
First off all this is no way near as scary as its reputation makes out. It is a very dark witchy green perfume but extremely wearable and feminine.

It starts of pungent and rich, but its in the middle that you can really smell the violet which adds an other worldly dimension. The dry down is surprisingly sweet considering how androgynous the initial spray is, I think this may be down to the patchouli. It's a very dry perfume, like a pile of green moss that has been left out in the sun.

If you like witchy smells this is a good blind buy and definitely worth the money.

I'm not a huge fan of patchouli though so while it's a beautiful fragrance I think I'll be getting Reptile Eau de Parfum instead x

Exquisite. Why the "Woman" suffix? It's a leathery neo-chypre with strong animalic bite and funeral wreath florals that just keep evolving.

Well made chypre with a strong retro touch and a (slight) soapy hint.

Sharp green & bitter opening that mellows out. A bit soapy and dusty from the patchouli. Reminds me of Chanel No19.

Muddy green depths of murky ponds. The toad down in the muck. Gold-speckled algae skin. She shares her secret with me. Most wondrous witchcraft.

Green clove chypre with galbanum and daffodils, slightly leathery and absolutely unisex. A scent like from a treasure chamber... °°°

I don't mean to be rude, but my association: a prison guard who bathed in aftershave, mowing the lawn while chewing on clove gum.

Unfortunately unbearable for me: Stale flower water with slight algae or mold formation. What a shame, the pyramid sounds great.

Initially a classic floral scent, but then it turns into a witch's brew from the swamp in the base. It transforms the quiet start into a fantastic finale!
