Lovely Scent Profile
Years ago when I tested Interlude Man and Interlude Black Iris, I did not enjoy either. Matter of fact, I never went back to re-test because of how much I disliked them. I found both unrefined and the oregano felt out of sync with the rest of the fragrance.

Well, a couple weeks ago I saw a display of Interlude 53 and said, let’s give this one a try. Right? No harm in trying…As soon as I sprayed it on my wrist, my first thought wasn’t how gorgeous it smelled…my first thought was Clive Christian duped Amouage!

X Oudh is one of my all-time favorite fragrances and now that I know Interlude 53 is almost identical, I will be wearing the heck out of both!

Well what do they smell like? This is tough to explain, but it’s slightly sweet, a tad herbal, some resins, a hint of smoke and no oud. I know oud is mentioned, but I do not smell any. Maybe it’s just my nose. I do not remember Interlude Man smelling this awesome, but now I must back track to find out.

This is a wonderful scent for a man over 40 or a professional. High quality artwork with excellent projection, sillage and scent profile. 10/10 and I recommend if you want something different and missed the boat on X Oudh.

Make sure you shop around because I found a new bottle on a deep discount.

The statement
Of course, anyone who is closed to the perfume community heard at least once about the blue beast from Oman which the "normal" Interlude is.

When I smelled that one for the first time, I got annoyed by the oreganoand after almost 1 to 2 hours it became nicer and a very addictive smoky scent. However, it is as niche, as niche is concerned and it takes time for an untrained "nose" to like it, if ever.

Then Amouage thought that Interlude is not extreme enough and they came up with an extrait de parfum which is almost double the amount of 30% perfume oil (to be considered extrait) ..

Well, apart from the huge price, the nice bottle with some extra symbols and less annoying oregano note .. they are very similar : the blue beast and the extrait double blue beast .. for me.

But, like the title says, this is not a perfume to own and wear for rational and logical reasons, this is an emotional purchase for someone who considers that the best of Amouage craftsmanship deserves the effort to pay the hefty price.

If you would like to hear more about that, please check my video.

Not significantly better than the OG
For Interlude 53 Man, I've repeated my review below of Interlude Man since they are very similar. Performance is nuclear as with Interlude Man. The difference between the two? I'd say Interlude 53 is a little bit smoother - it's the OG with some of the rougher edges sanded down. The other difference is price. At discounters, it's about $120 more than the OG. Is it $120 better? No, not in my book. Glad to have sampled it but won't be getting it. I'll stick with Interlude Man. Also, won't be trying Black Iris because I don't like iris scents on myself.

My review of Interlude Man:
Amouage delivers another awesome, masculine fragrance with Interlude Man. The initial spray delivered a whopping oregano punch to my snout, but a little patience pays off. As the fragrance developed, the oregano retreated more to the background while the pepper became more pronounced. As the resinous amber scent appeared, things started to sweeten and I was worried that it might dry down to something too sweet for me. However, that worry was unfounded. A smokiness also appeared which only slightly resembled a church incense smell. I also detected an occasional whiff of cigarette ashtray. Same with the sharpness of the pepper, which wasn't always there but showed up every so often. Didn't notice direct base notes but everything somehow combined to provide a very subtle backdrop of masculine funk - similar to what I noticed with Overture Man - but to a significantly reduced degree.

The king became a divinity
If Interlude man "classic" bordered on perfection, well, here we are beyond it: the concentration of essential oils reaches 53 percent and we are facing one of the most concentrated perfumes in the world.
Each wear is a journey without return to Oman starting from the sparklingness of bergamot, combined with the aromaticity of oregano and the spiciness of allspice, to the backbone made up of oud, resins and incense that with their richness and body envelop you and never leave you.
Compared to the edp version, it is extremely more amalgamated and rounded: the blast of oregano here is not as pronounced, but it is perceived at times and is not intrusive.
On the contrary, the fragrance is almost sweet and I detect hints of ripe fruit like apples reduced to a jammy, pureed, cooked and made to reduce for hours on a wood fire.
Smoky, resinous, sweet, aromatic: this masterpiece takes on different nuances every time you wear it.
It always excites me and is like having a second skin sewn on you: an armor, as mighty as it is.
If you love Interlude, give yourself a big gift by getting this work of art: you will not regret it.

INTERLUDE 53

Interlude 53 of the Arab House of Haute Luxury Niche Perfumery Amouage of the Sultanate of Oman is an Extrait De Parfum Amber Woody Spicy Smoky Unisex. It was launched in late 2020 and the nose behind this fragrance is Pierre Negrin.

Interlude 53 is a smoky/incensed woody spicy perfume. It opens spicy aromatic with a pungent pepper and very tasty and with a spicy oregano ... yes the oregano is still in this version but I felt a little reduced. In the sequence join its classic resins with the amber of the Interlude and the characteristic and opulent incense of Amouage that in this composition comes in an extraordinary version and still reinforced by the resinous 'Oud dark smoked acquiring the famous sweet smoky woody character delicious of this iconic fragrance. The patchouli and sandalwood in the background reinforce the woody footprint; as it evolves it begins to acquire a super elegant leathery appearance.

All those wonderful layers and evolutions that made Interlude a Perfumery Classic are still here but with more definition and even more quality. Interlude 53 is more harmonious crystal clear, it’s not as dense cloudy troubled and chaotic [which I love] as the Traditional Interlude Man.
Interlude 53 continues a SUPER POTENT perfume !!!
Delicious Perfume Of Excellent Quality !
A MasterPiece!
I’m a fan of the 'Interlude Concept'!
I know the versions Interlude Man(2020) and Vintage(2014), and also Interlude Black Iris; I like everyone; but I prefer 53!
In fact some time is my Top1 Collection!

Deeper, oilier and smoother than the original. Sweet, balsamic and warm Opoponax with a smoky oud, a hint of leather and a resinous amber.

It should be considered a crime to wear this in public because of how repulsive 99% of people find the smell. However, i kind of like it.

A flanker about as necessary as dropping a nuke to kill a mouse. Sure, it's phenomenal, but I'd rather Amouage focus on other things.

The original is just "too much", with a beautiful drydown. This is a masterpiece from the beginning, with no rough edges from the 1st spray.

53 veers away from immediate smoky blazes and more into medicinal resins, into smoothened sandalwoods and quiet whispery ashes. Introverted.
