Surprise Surprise
Even though the "well-trained" salespeople like to emphasize that Annayake is not one of their own brands and is indeed independent, this Asian-sounding company is naturally associated with the German perfume giant. Therefore, any slightly spoiled nose tends to avoid the brand or at least approaches it with skepticism, even if only subconsciously. Because we all like to title or see ourselves as unbiased and as objective as possible...
That such prejudices, from which I absolve myself last of all, are often not very justified or at least exceptions confirm the rule, is vividly demonstrated by Kuroi. This quietly released fragrance from last year fits its marketing strategy, being a soft, signature-appropriate mate wood scent, following in the footsteps of eco-students, chill masters, or Gucci PH II. Moreover, it is well-made and makes the new Davidoff on the other hand seem three classes weaker (because it probably is!). Kuroi is not black at all, rather soft and light, minimally Asian, a kind of Poor-Man's Kyoto. Woody, full of mate, and minimally sweet - this appeals to many groups and explains the justifiably high average rating.
Bottle: special shape, deep black, Japanese characters - good!
Sillage: rather tea-typical, calm, and relaxed!
Longevity: 5-7 hours for this signature-worthy scent
Conclusion: for me, the best Annayake so far and almost a reason to visit the Turquoise!
