Straightforward Floral Bouquet
As I mentioned elsewhere, this fragrance initially disappointed me due to my expectations. I read Ylang-Ylang and wood and was totally geared up for an oriental bombshell, and thus very excited about the scent. When I finally got to sniff it, my first reaction was: "What a mild breeze," but on my wrist, I still found it not bad. So I went through the notes again and wondered how I could come up with such an idea. Mandarin, white flowers, May rose, musk... none of these notes are strong and oriental. However, since I liked the scent itself, it got another chance on my wrist and eventually also in the all-day wear test. This time without any preconceptions. Shortly after spraying, Shiroi starts fresh, but with a distinctly noticeable bouquet of white flowers. The freshness is not citrusy, rather emphasizing the flowers. Over time, the floral bouquet gains intensity and becomes very beautifully creamy, which is probably due to the Ylang-Ylang. However, I cannot identify this as a specific note, which I appreciate, as too much of it can quickly become sunscreen-like (that's probably why I didn't quite like Terracotta by Guerlain). This one from Annayake is significantly more elegant. In all my tests of Shiroi, I tried to recognize a clear scent progression, but for me, this is not really present, which I don't find problematic. The notes blend harmoniously, and for me, Shiroi is a lovely feel-good scent for everyday wear. The white flowers are always present, appearing lush and creamy, but also not intrusive. If I had to compare the scent to one from my collection, it would probably be Donna by Trussardi, but without the fruity peach note.
The longevity of Shiroi I find to be good; I could clearly perceive it throughout the day. I would classify the sillage as moderately strong, more than most light floral scents, but not room-filling.
For me, Shiroi would definitely be a candidate for my collection, maybe not 100ml just for myself, but definitely a nice change when I don't feel like vanilla or one of my other lush favorites.
