Unsweetened Cocoa Cedes to Powdery Purple Flower Drydown
The dominant unsweetened cocoa note opening of Nez à Nez MARRON CHIC reminded me immediately of La Perla ECLIX. From there, the two diverge quite a bit, with MARRON CHIC drying down to a fine powdery floral iris and violet perfume with only a touch of gourmand feeling. I do not find this composition all that sweet, and I believe that the sweetness is more from the naturally sweet quality of violet than from added sugar or vanilla.

MARRON CHIC is a subtle creation, with a near skin-scent feeling once it has dried down. I like this perfume, but I think that I prefer ECLIX for my cocoa fix and INFUSION D'IRIS for a powdery iris.

dull chestnut
Strong mealy smell at first -- a little bit chocolatey. A little like Tootsie Roll candy. Not very strong. Drydown is powdery & sharp, nothing I’d go out of my way for. Four hours later, a faint powder smell. I think people who want the smell of marron (chestnut) would probably be better off with Wickle Chestnut & Vetiver,if that's still around. (061309)

Unfortunately not a dream scent.....
....as I had hoped. Based on the descriptions and comments, I had high expectations for Marron Chic and was unfortunately disappointed.

On me, it initially smells like bitter cocoa with leather-soaked oranges. Oh no, I really don't like that.
After about 10-15 minutes, the scent does improve when the iris makes an appearance; the bitterness lessens, and the composition becomes slightly more floral and especially powdery without becoming a touch sweeter.
The base also develops rather herbaceous, smoky, a bit resinous. It tends to lean more towards the oriental direction, but unfortunately for me, nothing becomes gourmand or cozy, just still very powdery, but without a chocolate note.
There is a leather-like note that runs throughout the entire scent progression, which is not listed at all.
I can very well imagine Marron Chic on a man, as it reveals a rugged facet on me.

Nevertheless, it is a very interesting scent with an exciting scent progression, which I, however, do not want to wear on my skin. It just doesn’t fit, very unfortunate.

One good thing came from this test, though; I have now found my gem from this series, namely: Bouche Baie, which I like extremely well.

Dark Praline
Chocolate! Creamy, milky, whole milk. With gianduja nougat or creamy truffle, Tartufo Bianco, oh my God, filled with buttercream, mmmmh, caramel-like, Belgian pralines, butter ganache,…
…I love light chocolate. Sometimes I feel a bit of envy towards the connoisseurs who dismiss such milk chocolate pleasure with a raised eyebrow and only start enjoying once the cocoa content reaches a decent high percentage. Good chocolaterie chocolate must offer sensory experiences of similar dimensions to what good fragrances provide for trained noses. But personally, I only get carried away in rapture when my chocolate is light and milky.
However, it’s quite different when it comes to smelling instead of tasting. In this intersection of chocolatey scent, I prefer the exact opposite direction: If a chocolate fragrance is too milky-sweet, my enjoyment is limited. Accordingly, I sniffed at Marron Chic with a skeptical attitude.
What a revelation: Dark chocolate!
Very delicious, completely on the olfactory level, without the culinary-tasting delicious associations. Deep, rich, refined, dark, dark, dark, yet very feminine, with a beautiful, light winter sweetness and quite sexy, without giving away the cuddle factor.

It starts with a very flirty bitter orange note. But not classically bitter orange, which can quickly become subdued and dull, but with a sour-fruity kick and a mandarin-like sweet spritz. When I read up and learned about the kumquat fruit, I could clearly connect this impression. Very soon, the wonderful dark chocolate comes along the path that the kumquat has paved. Do you know the taste that a bite into a roasted, otherwise untreated cocoa bean gives? Unsweetened, pure cocoa flavor with a certain powdery dullness. That’s exactly what I smell in Marron Chic. This powdery dullness corresponds olfactorily to the powderiness of iris, which works wonderfully with the main note here.
Just as I immerse myself in this non-milk chocolate cocoa, a lovely, sweet, incredibly harmonious floral note joins in. The kumquat-orange-citrus recedes into the background and is replaced by the violet. A perfectly nice violet, as one can only imagine. A very beautiful counterpoint: To the exalted, dark, and noble erotic cocoa note comes an almost touching cuteness.
The base doesn’t bring any truly new chapter to this fragrance story. It deepens what has already developed and emphasizes its unfolding, bringing as the only novelty for my nose a bit of sunny straw. Very successful: They left out the vanilla here. Instead, there are woody planks that wonderfully support without mixing in any new sweetness.
This fragrance is a precious praline. A dark one, with a high cocoa content and without buttery-creamy sweetness.

A truly cheeky hit!
Today I tested Marron Chic for the fourth time. Not because I find it difficult to describe the scent, but because each test is even more enjoyable than the last.

Marron Chic is for me the most beautiful gourmand-woody fragrance I have encountered so far.

I cannot perceive any of the listed flowers or citrus notes. From the moment of spraying, the scent is very gourmand, as if - very well dosed - Ylang-Ylang is included or perhaps Tuberose, both of which are not listed. Marron Chic is also slightly sweet - without being truly sweet, and beautifully soft woody with a very light smokiness. This is likely caused by the Iris, which gives it a certain powderiness, without stealing my breath away, as it often does.

The creaminess of Marron Chic is simply irresistible! I can't stop sniffing my left arm. Even now, after many hours, the scent is so beautiful, so enticing, so soft, so gourmand. It feels exceptionally calming to me.

The fairly good sillage ensures a good scent distribution, and it lasts and lasts and lasts.

In the base, a little green comes in, the sweetness completely disappears, but not the softness and creaminess.

Marron Chic is a cuddle fragrance par Excellence and is already on my wish list. Many thanks to the dear donor of this sample, which I will savor until the last drop.

Woody-resinous-bitter-unsweet-smoky. With iris it becomes leathery followed by green-herbaceous-bitter-citrusy (kumquat). Strict and strange.
