I always find it fascinating how differently scents can develop from skin to skin and how they are perceived.
Chrome Parfum is a prime example of this:
Out of curiosity, I took a look at the other reviews and statements here: dark, woody, earthy, similar to
Chrome Eau de Toilette, not similar to
Chrome Eau de Toilette, to name just a few. In any case, it is completely different from my perception.
On my skin, the scent starts off indefinably fresh. I can't pull out a clear note for the life of me. Towards the drydown, the scent becomes airier and more synthetic. A slight mix of lavender and sage also comes through. At this stage,
Chrome Parfum could also be a distant relative of
Y (2022) Eau de Toilette. Even though I'm not a huge fan of this fragrance, so far I found the composition bearable. But then it got worse. Suddenly, Chrome drifts towards Adidas IceDive deodorant. Fresh, synthetic - or the perfect recipe for a headache. It only lasts about an hour, but it's still really hard for me to tolerate.
Chrome Parfum is then not as overwhelming, but unfortunately not much remains, and the scent increasingly fades, with individual notes lost in the synthetic jungle.
I have the original
Chrome Eau de Toilette and in my opinion,
Chrome Parfum has little to nothing to do with it. On my skin, neither the characteristic metallic note nor the citrus of the EdT comes through. For me, the scent does not feel like a flanker of
Chrome Eau de Toilette; it fits best into the YSL Y family.
The performance is unfortunately also meh. The sillage is very close to the body; at times, it was hard for me to even perceive the scent. Particularly disappointing is the longevity. From a perfume, I would really expect more than 5 hours, which is already a generous estimate.
All in all, I have to say that I really hoped for more.
Chrome Parfum is, for me, quite unexciting, somewhat trivial, and very weak on the skin. Whether it's my skin that is doing the scent a disservice here - I don't know. What a shame!
