Something medicinal almost ruined it

The top notes of pear and frankincense are really enjoyable. They quickly fade into rose and salty sea breeze ambergris, with something a little discordant in the background like menthol. Then subtle vanilla and sandalwood emerge. The fruit and sea breeze notes remind me a little of Francesca Bianchi's Sex and the Sea. The pear and vanilla are sweet without being sickly or synthetic. Two sprays of Guidance were not overpowering and I didn't notice anything animalic. However, I just couldn't get past that unpleasant note of menthol--perhaps it's the Akigalawood.

Edit to add: Guidance is really growing on me. It is sexy, sophisticated, and complex. I really appreciate how well done the pear is here since it's a scent that can feel cheap or juvenile. Guidance is really worth another try.

Edited again: I literally dreamed of Guidance last night. I'm totally in love and addicted, despite that infuriating medicinal note. I ordered a sample of the 46 and I will get full bottles of one or both. Unbelievable.

Fruity floral heaven

Amouage Guidance is a fragrance that opens up with a beautiful and crisp pear note that captures the essence of the fruit's juicy and airy nature. As the fragrance begins to settle, it transforms into a fruity and floral bouquet with the apricot-driven osmanthus taking the center stage. The fragrance has subtle hints of leather that adds depth and complexity to the scent. Guidance has a lovely and attractive aroma. It has a sweet and fruity scent, but initially, it might have a slightly sour or tangy smell which I believe is due to the presence of olibanum that gives a citrus-like essence, combined with pear to create a tangy pear explosion. Gradually, it settles into a sweet and fruity aroma where the most prominent scent is the apricot from the osmanthus. As time passes, a more creamy and milky vanilla-like aroma emerges, still blended with the fruity essence, and I think I can sense a hint of hazelnut, although it's difficult to discern the exact ingredients.

The sweetness of the rose emerges from the heart of the fragrance, but it's not overpowering or jammy. Instead, it blends smoothly with the jubilant jasmine, creating a perfect harmony between the blooming flowers and the juicy fruit trees. There is also a subtle touch of saffron present in the fragrance, which works to support the rose note, adding an extra layer of sophistication and depth. The saffron note provides a slight spicy undertone to the fragrance, creating a beautiful balance between the floral and fruity elements.

Guidance is a stunning fragrance that is both fruity and floral, with a subtle hint of spice. It is a perfect representation of a beautiful and warm day in a lush garden, capturing the essence of blooming flowers and juicy fruit trees. The fragrance has a beautiful blend of notes that are perfectly balanced, making it a versatile scent that can be worn in any season or occasion. The projection of this fragrance is equally impressive. It has the power to catch the attention of passersby and leave a lingering trail of fruity goodness in its wake. You can apply it in the morning and it will stay with you for a full 24 hours, not losing its strength or character throughout the day. It is declared as a unisex perfume, although in my opinion it is more feminine. It's not my type of perfume and I probably would never wear it, but I still liked it, there's something about it that draws you in and enchants you. Give it time...

I was so close to buying a full bottle after reading the notes and so many rave reviews but this was not at all what I expected. Woosh! This is a strange one!

The initial blast was something synthetic and animalic. It smelled like a human musk to me. But also mixed with something chemical and synthetic.

As it dried, it got a little better. I couldn't remember the notes, but it smelled like artificial cherry flavoring. It reminds me of a fresh bin of red licorice that's still in the plastic container. It's very artificial and fruity.

When it finally reaches the base notes, only then do I see what all the hype was about. Suddenly it transformed into a nutty, velvety
creaminess. It feels like it just melds so beautifully with my own skin and becomes a part of me.

Glad I sampled this so I can finally stop wondering about, but jeez what a Rollercoaster! Be warned: you need to give this one time to "settle." Don't judge too quickly and definitely do not blind buy!

Why I am obsessed with Guidance!

You either love or hate Guidance and I lovvvvve it! Its depth and complexity are really hard to describe with the simple words.

It starts off with this strong medicinal smell that could make you say "wth" when trying on for the first time. As it dries down, this addictive and luxurious woody scent wraps you whether you are soaking in sweat or freezing in cold wind. Yes, I tried Guidance at gym and tried it at 8 degree Celsius.

It is not the monotonous woody scent that you get from Versace crystal noir or BDK Gris Charnel. The spicy, floral, vinegary and a little balsamic notes are taking turns to support this creamy woody notes which I'd say is the main character.

And the performance! It is really worth what you are paying for. If you have a warm body, all you need is one spray. If you have a scent eating skin , 2-4 sprays are what you need to get through a day - maybe even 2.

And this is the epitome of "room-filling scent". Sit in a room wearing Guidance, everyone who walks in will say "OMG, that smells good" (if the scent works with your body chemistry) . It works well with mine and I am always the one who smells amazing in most of the rooms.

That said, Guidance is not a blind buy type. Test it extensively. This is the combination of complex notes which are always changing depending on skin type, body temperature, weather, etc. One off note and it could be polarizing. But if they match, you will be in scent heaven!

When I first smelt Guidance, I loved it and purchased a full bottle. I sprayed on my tester and off I went to work a 12+ hour nursing shift. As the night went on, I found the scent began to make me feel ill. By the end of my shift I felt very nauseated and had the worst migraine. I will add that I did top up the scent throughout the night, which is probably where I went terribly wrong. This ended up in me hating it to the point I couldn’t smell it without it making me feel sick … so I cancelled my order.

A few months later, Guidance was still on my mind and I found myself craving the scent. I tried it again, decided it was too strong for me and wrote it off. I have been going back and forth, from undecided to desperately wanting a full bottle for a year now. Like many others, I have changed my review so many times. I don’t know what it is about Guidance, but it’s addictive and for some people like me it seems to etch itself into the brain and never leaves!

I do think it takes time to appreciate this scent. I really enjoy the sweet, nutty, pear. It’s super long lasting and powerful, so you really don’t need much or need to top up. I find it difficult to explain what type of scent Guidance is because to me it’s a mix of sexy, sophisticated, intoxicating, comforting, as well as refreshing. I have to be in the right frame of mind to wear it, but it’s so unique. There just isn’t anything else that smells like Guidance does. I have tried Impadia and while I initially liked it better, as a hater of all Delina scents I just couldn’t wear it. It also dried down with a mustiness on my skin. I’ve also tried Guidance 46 which had such a heavy rose note, I found it super nauseating.

Whether you like it or not, Guidance truly is a masterpiece and does get compliments. I have no doubt my love/hate relationship with Guidance will continue, but I’m also glad to finally have it in my collection.
