Positive "diluted" original!
After my collection has now reached a proud size and has already surpassed the 50 mark, it is no longer possible for me, even for reasons of selection, to focus on just one fragrance or limit myself to 3/4. In addition, there are dozens of decants and hundreds of samples. The agony of choice!
So it happens that I might not pick up a bottle for a good 12 months (unconsciously). Suddenly and out of the blue, the perfume falls back into my hands. It reappears on my personal radar screen.
Such a candidate is currently Boucheron Jaïpur Pour Homme! In my collection for three years (version before the last reformulation) and one of the few fragrances for which I always receive the most compliments. And yet - I use it relatively rarely (most goes to decants *g*), although in my eyes it also works on warm days. The ethereal scent progression with citrus accords comes across as a bit "more erotic" on sweaty skin!
This image may be too strange in the eyes of the Boucheron executives, so they launched three "fresh" offshoots in limited editions and without much advertising: Jaïpur Fraichéur (2006), Fraichéur Epicée (2010), and Edition Limitée (2013). However, these summery flankers were not available at all in my rural areas, and now even the online offers are in the triple digits! This fact left me somewhat disillusioned, so I was very happy to receive a decant when it reached me! Many thanks to the person concerned!
So how does the summery interpretation from 2013 smell? Well, for many critics, it will be a "diluted" version of the original, which after the reformulation had to endure mockery and scorn! I haven't been able to make a direct comparison yet, but I can say that the current EDP is a bit more citrusy and soapy than the old EDP version. Thus, I can only compare: Limitée 2013 vs. EDT 2012.
Jaïpur Limitée starts with an attractive top note, which comes across as juicier and cheerier than the original. The citrus component of the classic EDT has, in my eyes, been replaced with an orange/bergamot accord. A warm, medicinally scented clove joins in.
Aquatic notes should not be confused with a "maritime" character. I do not perceive melon at all, for example! Overall, everything really feels a bit "watery" and "fruitier." It also has slightly soapy nuances with a sour undertone. It's surprising that they didn't use the oh-so-trendy term "Sport" here!
In general, the Boucheron brand is quite shy and reserved when it comes to new fragrances. For about 25 years, the French jewelry traditional company has only had two men's fragrances (EDT & EDP) in its program - not counting the limited editions. The female audience had a bit more luck. However, it took another 5 years for a women's fragrance to be released with Place Vendôme.
Back to the main point - the drydown is determined by the Jaïpur typical - spicy, heliotrope-like nuances with piquant cinnamon notes and a powdery vanilla/amber mix. Of course, everything is a bit toned down and adjusted for summer activities outdoors - without being intrusive. For outsiders, it is hard to perceive. The entire fragrance feels quite close to the body. I myself can no longer smell it on me after a short time. The longevity for me is between 6-7 hours, ridiculous when considering the 24-hour endurance of the 2012 original. Nevertheless, an attractive companion for sun-seekers and all Jaïpur fans.
In this sense, have a nice summer "2014"!
