Needs more...
It's a nice smokey jasmine tea. Points for the balance; I'm not a fan of "smoke" and I think it tends to overwhelm most mixes but it's well measured here. However, after the open (when you stop applauding the smoke-balance) it's kind of boring? I feel like it needed either a more skanky jasmine or a heftier note in the base. Maybe some hinoki or vetiver?

Also, for a tea-jasmine the longevity is quite impressive; but (and I think this is the first time I've ever felt this way) the longevity actually works against it?? During the first 30 minutes I was adding this to cart as an exciting late summer-early fall scent, but this has lasted all day and honestly now I'm bored and kind of fatigued with it. Once the smoke fades out it becomes a ubiquitous woody green tea.

MSRP is hilarious. IMO also not worth the common discount price; there are countless more interesting jasmines....even a ton of more interesting smoked-jasmine-teas. You could buy 4-5 of them at the MSRP.

"If you wanna hang out, you′ve gotta take her out"
If you want to hang out with Matsukita (or more), you have to take her out. She's not satisfied with boring movie nights on the couch or lukewarm food from the local delivery service. Matsukita likes to dress up, visit high-class restaurants, hang out in museums or travel the world to get to know other cultures.

The first time you met her was in a small fishing village on the Italian Riviera. There she was sitting in a chic café under blooming bergamots, drinking a cold mate tea. There, your eyes met briefly and your interest was piqued.
You plucked up all your courage and approached her. At first she seemed uninterested, but a nice, deep conversation soon ensued. From this conversation, you planned an excursion together for the next day. You went to the nearby, beautiful Provence. There you took a long walk through fields of jasmine and picturesque coastal villages. In the evening, your journey took you to a nearby forest, past large fir trees and freshly felled trees. It was there that you really got to know and love her (or maybe just the idea of her?).

Fragrance impression:
After a long dry spell with Clive Christian (which is easy to understand based on some past and future statements), I came across this beautiful fragrance. It opens with a natural, citrusy bergamot and cooling mate tea. This is followed by a fresh jasmine note, completely free of indolence, and a light woody note. The drydown is characterized by a woody, fir-like freshness, freshly cut woods and creamy clouds of musk. In my opinion, Clive Christian has delivered a wonderful woody-floral, slightly dry modern chypre here, but one that never succumbs to the vintage opulence of other representatives of this category.
This fragrance is listed as unisex by the manufacturer and of course anyone can wear it, regardless of gender. For me, however, it still has a clear feminine tendency without being a typical women's fragrance.

Finally, I would like to thank NeverPerfect for the testing opportunity and thank everyone who has read my text :)

Consistency in every drop
The moment I applied Matsukita for the first time remains vivid in my memory to this day. It was a cool autumn evening, and I was looking for a fragrance that not only underlined my personality, but also told a story, something that would take me on a journey.
The fragrance:
As soon as I put the first spray on my skin, a world full of exotic flowers and gentle warmth opened up. The Matsukita flower, which is at the center of this perfume, slowly unfolded like a mysterious garden, hidden and yet so close. Its floral sweetness was not intrusive, but delicate and almost mystical, as if whispering a secret promise from me.

As the fragrance lived on, the woody and spicy notes emerged, a pleasant earthiness that I found gave the scent structure and depth. I felt like I was walking through an exotic forest, the air filled with the scent of warm amber and musk that enveloped my senses like a soft cloak. Wherever I wore Matsukita, it impressed with solid longevity, usually lasting around 6 to 8 hours depending on skin type and environment. The sillage is moderate: the fragrance is really very present like any Clive, but it is never overpowering. It always remains elegantly close to the wearer, making it ideal for special situations and special occasions.

This fragrance is very personal to me: It symbolizes the balance between strength and gentleness, between the desire for adventure and the need for security. When I wear Matsukita, I feel like I am telling a story of elegance and individuality with every breath that only I can live.
My conclusion:
Matsukita now accompanies me to special moments, to evenings when I want to celebrate myself and to encounters where I want to appear with style and presence. For me, this fragrance is more than just a perfume - it's a statement, a reminder of how beautiful it is to wear your uniqueness with pride.

Beautiful spring in Kyoto

My first impression of Clive's fragrance Matsukita really surprised me. It's an unusual fragrance based on the familiar basic DNA of the house, especially with its woody-oriental base.

At the first spray, an intense note of incense unfolds, followed by a hint of bergamot and bitter-green black tea resting on cedar wood.

At the heart of the fragrance, it becomes floral and slightly creamy, with hints of jasmine and rose, accompanied by pepper and nutmeg that slowly permeate.

The base presents an abundance of woody notes, enhanced by warm amber and a hint of animal musk, with the flowers never being pushed into the background. It is a smoky-floral experience that offers a non-linear journey through its olfactory pyramid.

The longevity of the fragrance is reasonable, around 5-7 hours depending on the dosage, while the sillage remains classy and subtle. It is a fragrance that keeps the owner in mind and offers a unique olfactory experience.

Matsu (松) Kita (北)
Weathered wood in the midst of pine trees reaching towards the sky. Wherever I look, life is close to death. Snow falls from the treetops, I pull my hood deeper into my face, a storm is looming.
I was here many years ago, I'll be here again soon. Back then it was summer and the roof lay like the spine of a dragon in the rocky landscape. It glowed fiery red amidst the gray and green. We found home under its roof, found boiled tea, jasmine blossoms and the smell of the temple's precious wood. I traveled alone and yet I was never lonely. Then I met you. The way you threw your red kimono with cherry blossoms, cranes and plum blossoms to the ground and I saw the Medusa emblazoned on your chest. I can still smell the scent of green tea with fresh jasmine blossoms as you brewed it for us in a cast iron teapot. There were three infusions, the second was the best. It was always the best. You said you had loved the second infusion since you were a child and then I told you that I would come back. That everything good in the world is four times as good with two.
Now the snowstorm is blowing full force into my face, I can almost only see white. No green, no red, no gray. White.
Only you, I don't see you.
And after a while, which feels like an eternity. After a while, in which my limbs became almost completely numb, then after a while I see him.
Old, rotten wood entrenched in the landscape like a dead dragon carcass. The smell of burnt belongings, dreams and wood lingers in the air. Only you are nowhere. Under a charred beam, as black as the night and as fragile and fleeting as the jasmine blossoms, I find scraps of red cloth and a split cast iron teapot. All the good in the world will be found twice, I think, and leave the temple.

Fragrance description

Matsukita is probably the only fragrance that smells of green tea, despite its mate scent. You can really smell every note, the precious woods, the wonderfully tangy bergamot and the pink pepper. Matsukita has a very unobtrusive but easily perceptible sillage that wraps around the wearer like a kimono, but always leaves enough air to breathe. It lasts for around eight to ten hours. The drydown of Matsukita is absolutely unique and hard to describe, like smoky, citrusy tea on teakwood. I love it and think it's one of the best fragrances I've ever smelled and with almost a thousand fragrances, I think you can definitely call that a sign of quality. I can only recommend everyone to at least try this fragrance.

Thanks for reading.

This is what Interlude with Jamine and Bergamot would smell like. Addictive smell indeed, I like it in dry down. A very beautiful scent!

Spicy mate with a smoky-woody base is what I mostly get. It has good longevity with moderate sillage. It's nice, just not my cup of tea :)

Would never guess the notes by smelling it. Smoky maté on charred woods w/ hints of jasmine, but there are pervasive hints of barbeque also.

Out of 14 Clive Christian's I know, only this and 1872 Men smell both natural and nice. Citrus, bitter mate, balanced jasmin. Classy unisex

Please legit check this Clive Christian Matsukita
I traded for Clive Christian Matsukita and it is my first CC. Not familiar with the bottle. I am skeptical because the cap comes off really easily… not sure if that’s common or not. Please let me know :)
