Number 655 from 1872 / A little story / Is it worth its (absurd) price?
Hello everyone,
Today I would like to say something about 1872 Mandarin!
I have known you since 2017, and back then I only caught a whiff of you (at a friend's place) and the top note (the first 10 minutes) was very nice, no question about it, but it wasn't anything that blew me away. However, after 30 minutes, when the fruity - citrus notes settle down a bit, the true magic of the fragrance happens for me.
The 1872 Tarocco Orange then takes on a slightly floral (unisex with a tendency towards the feminine), while the 1872 Mandarin leans towards the unisex - masculine direction. (= for clarification). Masculine fragrance notes like lavender, lily of the valley, and so on take the helm, while the mandarin or tangerine is still noticeably present... and after 4 hours or 5 hours we enter the drydown phase, and it unfolds even more of what I LOVE!
The mix of cedarwood + the (here) dry vetiver with a very, very subtle amount of saffron (very good finish) and the mix of patchouli + oakmoss create a green and "cooling and refreshing touch," and combined with the cedarwood + vetiver = WOW!
The amber adds a rough mystical note to it.
I love it (hard!) and I loved it years ago and still do today. Finally, I have a bottle of 1872 Mandarin and I won't give it up - safe!
This brings me to our little story!
Over the past few years, I have had quite a few samples - maybe 4 or 5 at 2ml each, and I took care of them and really looked after them (location, temperature) and used them very sparingly and selected very carefully when I would wear/use them. Because I knew that if they ran out, I would have a big problem... + they were slowly running low...
Why?
On one hand, it is strictly limited, and therefore very hard to come by. Getting a sample is like winning a small lottery, and getting a bottle today (in the original packaging), which is nearly full and not tipped over, is almost impossible...
I was lucky enough to get one - a bottle, I managed to trade for one, but it was worth it to me, even if I made a bit of a bad deal price-wise - all cool.
I knew that under "normal" circumstances, I would probably never get my hands on one (as a CC lover).
How does it come across:
Incredibly well!
When can you wear it (season + occasion):
If you have the right wallet - always, and absolutely in every respect. No one will be bothered by it, and the wearer feels "special."
Why?
You are the only one wearing it and having it, and I would go so far as to say, probably in your city and maybe even in your state, the only one using it (not collecting). In that respect, I see it almost as a "I have money" statement.
But I see the advantages (season) more in the areas from April to the end of May, summer evenings, and in the beginning of autumn (September and early October). You can of course wear it daily ;)
(it wouldn't be mine, but it would have its charm)!
About the price and whether the fragrance is worth the price...?
I really find it very hard to say "yes" or "100% no," because yes (!) it does rock (and now an important point), you can definitely notice the fine tuning, the high-quality aspect, and you can tell that it is the case with (most!) fragrances from the house - oh come on, let’s add something better/more expensive...
Many niche houses like MFK primarily work on a purely synthetic basis, but here you can definitely notice a certain quality difference!!!!
My conclusion on the topic of price, purchase, and recommendation... IF you find a remaining bottle, take it and if possible, DO NOT pay the current collector's price (!) then I recommend certain fragrances from the house, like this one!
The fragrances from this house are generally not performance monsters,
they are characterized by a noticeable and very decent composition,
tuning, selection of oils, etc., and for me, that is worth much more than a 16h
performance with a synthetic monster = personal opinion!
And that brings me to the performance:
The 1872 Mandarin gets a 7 - 8 from me, and in my opinion, that’s okay. It is a fruity, green - woody high-end fragrance and not a 20h rose - oud bomb... Would I prefer more performance? Sure, gladly, but a higher % of fragrance oils/concentration often negatively affects the scent, so good job!
If I really weren't convinced, I wouldn't recommend it to you!
And now have a nice day/evening or whenever you read this review, best regards, Benny

Now to the topic of luxury:
As you can see in part in my profile, I have really smelled many fragrances, and there are fragrances where you can smell a certain (sometimes) strong synthetic note, and you quickly realize that some fragrance houses focus more on quantity than quality, and there are some where you can tell "oh come on, let's add more + better" and you can smell that at the end of the day.
A brief note on the topic of original packaging, bottle, sprayer:
I'll keep it short; I give a 10 out of 10 in every category, and I know very well that tastes are very different. So if someone honestly rates this with a 7 or less... - PHEW. Beautiful and very high-quality cap, nice timeless bottle design, etc.... so I find it very hard to rate it differently, and I’m not saying this because I like or dislike a brand!
Now a short note on my opinion:
I am not sponsored, influenced by anyone, receive money or anything else. I approach the topic of perfume as I am, being honest; everything else is not my style. My true personal opinion is worth a lot to me, and I hope maybe ;) that you can tell. If I don’t like something, such as the original packaging, bottle, sprayer, or H/S, I will communicate that too!
