A CHILL ROSE WITH A SHARP EDGE
A very cold-smelling rose, fresh with prominent spice and a woody vetiver base. It opens with a peppery blast and resinous woods, almost like tree sap. I also smell a lot of elemi here, adding a crisp, lemony resin brightness that keeps things sharp. The composition feels modern and androgynous, nothing like the original Evelyn Rose (2003) Eau de Toilette, which was a prim, proper, watercolor-style soliflore rose.
Once the spice settles, the rose becomes more noticeable. It smells cold, fresh, and carries a faint soapy nuance. There’s plenty of guaiac wood and earthy vetiver in the base, giving it a dry, rooty, woody kind of texture. The blackcurrant note gives it an earthy, slightly tangy edge that deepens the rose and ties beautifully with the vetiver.
It’s a pretty linear scent overall.
When the peppery top fades, it strongly reminds me of Smyrna, created by Jean-Claude Ellena. It’s an incredibly close match, maybe 90 percent similar. I’m not sure who composed Evelyn Rose Femme de Force, but whoever it was created a solid modern rose. A true cool-girl rose. Sad it was discontinued, because I enjoy this one a lot. So if you miss Evelyn Rose - Femme de Force Scent Eau de Parfum, try Smyrna instead. It performs better and is superior in longevity, projection, and overall quality.
