Wild, seaside brambles
I'm a native of Virginia Beach but no longer live there, so for years I was on the hunt for a scent to quench my nostalgia for the smell of the sea. On my skin, the bright pink tea rose only lingers for the first 30 minutes or so, which is fine because the brambles tucked in behind low dunes were mostly full of confederate jasmine and honeysuckle, not roses.

The heart of this perfume is a hyper-realistic impression of salty air, coarse sand, and sun-bleached wood. I immediately recall lifting sandy seashells to my nose and inhaling; there's a mineral, briny quality to Rose Atlantic that triggers memories of strolling the vacant coastline in early April. The air is crisp, sans any humidity, and the sky is clear and cloudless.

This is not a beachy perfume in the sense of warm, well-oiled bodies browning in the hot sun. DS Durga has captured the essence of the ocean, from the salt spray to the Loblolly pines dripping with Spanish moss. This perfume is linear, and has the characteristic poise and restraint of the other DS Durgas I've owned/sampled. Lamentably expensive, but available discounted online, and a lovely reminder of a life I once lived and often long for.

A mother's hug
I tried this fragrance in a multi-brand store in Italy, where I had immediately noticed the presence of D.S. & Durga. As always attracted by this line, which I know a little about, I tried asking the shop assistant for a floral fragrance. As soon as she proposed Rose Atlantica, I knew I had already tried it some time ago but I was happy to repeat the experience. I must say that the simple rose-salt association that is often made is reductive and does not do justice to the jus. Although it is often described as a perfume for young, carefree girls, I do not feel that this fulfils its potential. To me, it speaks of a distant memory, atavistic and contemporary at the same time; I am reminded of the tender and eternal image of the good scent of a young mother's hug. This is this perfume for me, the reassuring, warm, maternal embrace that transpires from the saltiness of the skin and lingers on the clothes.

Evocative
You’re on a ship with a fancy cocktail and maybe you’re a little tipsy after one too many margaritas and it’s close to midnight and the mysterious woman you met at dinner who asked you to meet her on the deck puts her hands on your lower back and gives you a light push over the railing-

As usual, DS and Durga tries to tell a story with their perfumes; This one harkens back to the golden age of sea travel, and you're meant to imagine an ocean liner off the coast of New England. I haven't experienced that myself, but this scent definitely makes me imagine it; Something of a Noir mystery-at-sea.

Coastal rose
A unique take on a fresh rose scent. I don’t get any lemon on the opening but a splash of bergamot, an aquatic rose and a whiff of salty marine air that develops into sand grass, rose petals, linden and driftwood. These notes stay throughout as a musk appears and I get a fair amount of driftwood that lasts (strange no wood notes are listed).

This isn’t a dark or stormy aquatic, and there’s nothing raw and briny. It’s lightly romantic with a twist, easily be worn by all genders. Overall the feeling remains cool and clean which makes it a good daytime summer fragrance.

Ghost of a rose
The rose here is fresh, realistic and dainty. I never picked up on any of the citrus notes or linden — instead, this was rose straight from top to bottom, accompanied by a faint saltiness that comes and goes, along with sheer musk and a wisp of dune grass.

If you like a fragrance to announce your arrival, this one isn’t for you — I’m normally a light sprayer (1-2 max), but this is so light that I had to spray 3x on each wrist. Unsurprisingly, it sits intimately close to the skin.

Overall: it’s not groundbreaking but it’s a very pretty, delicate fragrance. The impression is lovely and ethereal: the ghost of a rose downed at sea.

Rose Atlantic is like a daydream, a memory of a perfect day on the Atlantic Coast. Idyllic and fleeting. Elements there and also not.

More than a simple rose-salt scent. To me, it evokes the warm, timeless embrace of a young mother, tender and reassuring.

I have tried a few from this brand and all are disappointing. There are so many better rose fragrances out there.

Delicate rosy petals embrace warm musk and the fresh breeze of salt water.

Beautiful aquatic rose scent. Like bathing in a luxury pool inside a rose garden. Sadly the lasting power and projection are lacking.

Rose Atlantic conjures memories of late summer walks along the dunes of the windy green Atlantic. Perfect for Indian Summer.

An airy, salty rose that's very light and easy to wear. As another commenter said, it'd be at home in a fancy salon.
