It's grass!
This is scarily accurate as a grass smell and difficult to rate.

It's 3:30 PM on a Sunday, I've mowed the lawn, and the smell of freshly cut grass fills the air as the afternoon sun warms up the lawn. Though I live in an apartment now, the smell takes me back to living at my mum's house and mowing the lawn.

But how do you rate the smell of grass? I love the smell of freshly cut grass, I think it's one of my favourite smells in the world. But as a perfume? I don't know. I don't know if I'd want to wear a perfume that smells only like grass. I know Demeter sells all of their scents in other forms. As an essential oil to scent the air, this would smack, and I'd have it going all the time. I've given this a high score for smell because I really do love the smell, but this is definitely a weird one for perfume. I suppose you could also use it as a room spray if you don't like wearing it.

Just as well it doesn't hang around for long, like all the other Demeter scents. And it's cheap too, so hey! Why not try smelling like grass for a while?

Green with a creamy sweet underbelly
The very first spritz is grassy, but it yields almost immediately to melon or cucumber.

However, I think my favorite thing about this scent is the dry down! It’s so odd and unexpected. I wore this layered with Happy Chopard Lemon Dulci and forgot about it, trusting Grass to evaporate to nothing very quickly, as Demeter does. However, I started to catch whiffs of something lactonic and almost vanilla-y. It took me a while to realize it was Grass, still hanging around but totally transformed.

Grass adds a lovely lactonic dewiness to summer freshies, and I’m way more into it than I expected.

When You're Into Grass…
Hmm, I bet because of the ambiguity of my title you had to laugh, right?
Well, or maybe you rolled your eyes, that could be too… hmm… whatever… :D
Anyway, I hope it's clear to you that by grass I naturally mean the plant in front of your house, in the garden, city park, or elsewhere! Although one could technically roll and smoke all of that too, but I'm sure you're more the experts who know about that, he he he :DD

On the other hand, regular grass can also smell delicious and be addictive. How often have I stood in front of areas with freshly mowed grass, inhaling that wonderful, green scent like a junkie? That juicy, delicious scent that could really tempt you to, well… bite into the grass? :D

So I hope that Grass by Demeter really smells great and authentic like grass :)

The Scent:
Hmm… the scent has green notes and does remind me of grass. However, the green note also seems to me to be slightly like a stuffy fig note, which shortly thereafter transforms into an apple-like note.
Overall, it's not bad, but for me, this Demeter doesn't smell 100% like grass, and I don't find the grass scent to be that authentic, even though it's not too bad in general.
Real grass, however, I find much juicier. This one comes across as more perfumey.
What a shame… but I expected a bit more.

The Sillage and Longevity:
The sillage is weak and becomes weaker after spraying, and that happens quite quickly.
The longevity is also short, lasting three to four hours.

The Bottle:
The bottle is as beautifully green as grass… NOT!!!
As always, the bottle is practical. The only thing that somewhat reminds me of grass is the green stripe on which the name of the fragrance is written… well…

Okay, the scent isn't that bad, but it doesn't come across as very authentic to me either. It could be that I'm just thinking of freshly cut grass and the scent is supposed to "only" smell like grass, but freshly cut grass just smells so much better.

But as I said, this scent isn't bad and comes across as more perfumey, as it also has a slightly fruity and a little floral scent in the background after the briefly flashing stuffy note at the beginning, almost like a light spring fragrance. And if you want, you can actually wear this in spring, at least if you don't mind a little synthetic aftertaste that occasionally appears.

I'm not personally that disappointed, but the scent doesn't smell quite like I expected or rather hoped. I'm used to very different scents from grass… and I hope you know what I mean! :DD

... so real ...
The great thing about perfume is, among other things, that the scent molecules dock directly onto the cerebellum and can instantly beam you back to a situation you have already experienced, even if it was 10, 20, or 100 years ago.

When testing Demeter Grass (many thanks to dear Hasi for the sample), it instantly transported me back to my childhood and teenage years, where I often spent my holidays with relatives in the countryside and, yes, you can guess, participated in the hay harvest, which was a lot of manual labor back then.

In my mind's eye, I see us, taking a break after hard work, lounging in a huge haystack while the farmer brings the full load into the barn.
We squint up at the blue sky, a few swallows fly by ... and I love this smell of fresh, sun-warmed hay, which just the day before was a lush green meadow ... mmmmh ... and I dream of Xaver, the rugged neighbor's son, who winked at me yesterday by the gravel pit ... and...

What can I say, the folks at Demeter seem to be perfectionists; they certainly took it very seriously and incorporated a tribute to my uncle's tractor, the diesel plume from what felt like 50-60 meters away. It really didn't have to be that authentic!

"Get up!" my aunt calls,
"Back to work, the bulldog is coming!"

Zefix.

Artificial Turf
I would not classify the product line from Demeter as perfume at all, because these are scents that are added during the industrial production of certain items, such as fabric softeners, cleaning agents, etc.

With a lot of imagination, this smells a bit like grass, but like the plastic kind, not the real stuff.

It "fragrances" completely inauthentic and just smells like chemicals.

I wanted to rate the others: Rain Shower, Summer Rain, and Snow Flurry, but I couldn't find them here.

Which is no loss. Stay away from Snow Flurry as well, because it smells like musty stock stains - certainly snow from yesterday....

NOT photorealistic at all. Synthetic bathroom freshener vibes. Avoid.

Dewy and green but closer to melon than grass. Short-lived, good for layering.

Honey, are you wearing this Demeter scent or have you been rolling around in the grass again?

Very realistic, freshly mowed grass (with a hint of mini-lawnmower). Good memories, good mood, great scent for me :-)))

Machine oil with a LITTLE grass - like a lawnmower in the shed - what a shame.

A fun "scent" that smells to me like a mix of freshly cut grass and a green Granny Smith apple. More of a room fragrance.

You can really smell the grass growing here. After all, it's a Demeter fragrance and you get exactly what you expect!

Pretty close to the scent of freshly cut grass. Green + refreshing, but unfortunately still a bit synthetic. Wearable especially in summer.

Start: green apple, middle: apple, finish: musty apple. Very synthetic, smells like an air freshener or cleaning product.

Freshly mowed juicy meadow, peaceful scent. Definitely a good idea for Carnival, as a May beetle or grasshopper... Test recommendation!
