Perfect for Summer
This is amazing on very, very hot days. You feel like you have bathed under a cold shower of mint, citrus fruits, flowers and leaves. It's very refreshing, mouthwatering at first and has a cool effect on skin. It driesdown to a quiet scent, but you can use it in big doses that it won't get offensive. Also, if you spray on clothes it seems to last and project more. It's delicious, a straightfoward and very well done citrus fragrance.

Bitter–fresh herbs
When I've read in reviews that L'eau des Hesperides has strong medicinal dry down, I've been astonished. I didn't think about it in this way. I can say – it is true, but for me it reveals rather herbal notes. Bitter fresh, just cut herbs. ready to use. I've found Hesperides quite interesting, especially wearing by women who would like to escape from mainstream sweetness. Fit to every season, elegant and misterious. Sharp, like perfect tailored geometrical dress without ornaments.

Negliglible green
Eau des Hesperides by Diptyque starts off with a sharp, almost acrid minty-citrus-grass accord, which smells as much green as really pungent and balsamic. Invigorating and bracing on one side, quite artificial on the other, ending up in smelling a bit like a nasal decongestant – balsamic for sure, but also decidedly “medicinal” in a literal, non-fascinating meaning. The musky base, subtle but substantial, doesn’t help in minimizing this plastic feel. Still if it’s smashing green freshness what you are looking for, regardless of quality and charm, then this will probably suit your needs. Personally I find this a bit too loud and artificial, with way too much acrid-synthetic stuff going on - speaking of contemporary green citrus scents I tend to prefer more discreet, natural refined stuff like some Hermès “concentrés”, but to each his own. Like many other Diptyque fragrances, a nothing bad-nothing good quintessence of negligibility.

Daughters of the Evening
In Greek mythology, the Hesperides were nymphs of the evening who were meant to represent the light of sunsets. They have historically been depicted as delicate and beautiful women, oftentimes found near a sort of fruit tree in a lavishly depicted countryside. I think this fragrance represents this historical depiction well. L'Eau des Hespérides is a very supple and gentle fragrance that is immensely fresh, yet feels warm, like the evening sun is beating down on your skin on a hot summer's evening. The notes of peppermint and bitter orange are the most prominent here, which give it that aforementioned freshness. However, the immortelle is present as well, giving a bit of a gentle touch to a fragrance that could otherwise been seen as a bit harsh. The fragrance doesn't dive much deeper than this, but it accurately depicts a pastoral scene of the Hesperides that can be seen in many renaissance era paintings of the titular figures.

For what it is, I feel that Diptyque has done well to capture a very specific feeling with this fragrance. I like to think of this fragrance as a citrus "freshie" for someone who is looking for something a bit more alternative than a run of the mill fresh scent. It stands out from the crowd because of this, and adds to why I enjoy it so. I normally tend to avoid fresh fragrances in general, as I feel they can be a bit underwhelming or pedestrian, but L'Eau des Hespérides is most certainly an exception.

Fresh, green and citrusy nostalgia to my nose
Second free sample I've snagged at Holt Renfrew from Diptyque. It has grown on me since I've applied it on my skin. It has an oddly nostalgic aspect to it that's so comforting to my nose. I could almost wrap myself in this fragrance. It also weirdly border on the functional aspect as I sometimes catch whiff of it that reminds me of a body lotion I used to wear when I was young (Aveeno maybe?).

A strong start that reminded my boyfriend and I of green apples due to the astringency of the peppermint and the tartness from the citruses. As it settles on my skin, I get the fresh, green aspect of peppermint which is absolutely lovely. Bitter orange and lemon offer a bright, tart, fresh and slightly sweet accord. I've never smelled an immortelle before, but I do get some sort of soapy, fresh, but also "grain"-y (almost earthy, but not quite) kind of scent that I'm very fond of (might be a note I'll need to explore further). For a perfume that contains a lot of volatile notes, it sticks to my skin better than what I expected. As it moves on, there's a slight warmth that comes to mingle while the freshness dies down a little bit in lieu of a smooth spiciness. Nothing too brash or loud.

I've been questioning my hesitation at adding a full bottle to my collection as I really love the scent. It's only when I tested another one of Diptyque's fragrances that I realized that even though I really enjoy this, I find it more fitting as a candle or a room spray. I'd love for a room to smell fresh and bright like this fragrance, but not necessarily on me (no shame to those who do). This si the sole reason why it won't be added to my collection, other than that it's a very lovely scent!

Can’t detect any peppermint. It’s lemon all the way without becoming completely detergent

Simple, yet there's something truly lovely and nostalgic in this fragrance. Fresh, citrusy, reminds me of a body lotion I used when young.

L’Eau de Menthe would be a better fit. Mint clears the nose, bitter citrus lingers, and immortelle adds that special touch.
