The US perfume brand Ellis Brooklyn was founded in 2015 by beauty journalist and writer Bee Shapiro.

The brand's logo depicts the stylized head of a leopard, modeled after the abstract symmetrical shapes of a Rorschach test. Bee Shapiro reported that it was originally supposed to be a lion's head, but since the symbolic lion is considered old-fashioned in writing circles, the founder opted for the leopard.

The brand name Ellis Brooklyn is composed of her daughter Ellis' first name and the name of the New York borough where they lived, Brooklyn.

Bee Shapiro wrote for the beauty section of the New York Times as an author and reporter for eleven years and worked as a writer for the beauty industry.

One year after the company was officially founded, the first four Ellis Brooklyn Eau de Parfums for women, created by Jérôme Epinette, were launched: Myth, Fable, Raven, and Rrose.

In addition to perfumes, Ellis Brooklyn also offers scented candles and perfumed care products.
