Mid-class gem!
It took me quite a while to make up my mind about Zegna Intenso. I own it and wear it quite happily from times to times, but any time I tried to approach it more thoroughly from a “reviewer” point of view, I always felt something was missing in my, say, perception of it. Like when you enjoy something, but any part and aspect of it seem dull and negligible, and you are unable to get a global, comprehensive idea of it. And yet you reach for it and enjoy it even if you can’t really explain why. Zegna Intenso does precisely that effect to me. At first I was ready to dismiss it as a boring mainstream scent, but each time its discreetly enjoyable presence on skin was telling me it would have been a mistake. Now I think I got why. The main key of this scent is that it smells so nicely and perfectly generic and discreet, it serves more as a sort of ideal silent and distinguished servant than a “statement” accessory. Any time you wear it, it’s ready to do and “tell” you exactly what you want it to, to suit your mood, your style, the situation you’re in. It can smell formal and dark, or lively and “young”; sometimes it feels simple and warm, sometimes elusively exotic, sometimes dusty and vibrant like a club downtown. A perfect Zelig in a bottle (Woody Allen’s Zelig, I mean). And I think this is due to Daniela Andrier’s ability to bring out the best off the concept of “safe and generic” – something soothing and comforting designed to make you want to wear it just for the pure sake of it, and then forget about it. Zegna Intenso brings that to an unexpectedly high level.

Coming to the smell itself, many compare Zegna Intenso to Armani Code but I don’t really see the similarity. I mean, of course that is the family, but there’s quite some differences. And anyway, frankly Zegna Intenso smells way superior than that for me to any extent. Tonka and musky iris notes provide a dusty, sophisticated and crisp Oriental frame (a yuppie concept of “Oriental”, obviously – it’s a designer after all...) which is perfectly harmonized with generic - and yet, perfectly nice - clean woods and some nondescript sort of fresh-tart head accord that gives Zegna Intenso a quite enjoyable sort of mildly aromatic fresh twist – fresh enough to keep it more vivid and sophisticated than many similar, and often kind of heavy or cheap Oriental tonka-centered designer fragrances. Diamondflame’s review on Basenotes is really spot on about this interesting “chiaroscuro” effect due to bright head notes versus the general Oriental spicy-smooth “darkness” of the other notes. This whole harmony makes Zegna Intenso smell way more refined and comforting than it seems. Now imagine all this in the hands of an extremely talented nose with an eagle eye for subtle – and again, positively “generic” - refinement as Daniela Andrier, and here’s Zegna Intenso. A true little piece of smoothness and respectability in a bottle. I know many scents already play this “comfort” role (e.g. many classic clean “eaux de cologne”), but well, each does it its way and so does Zegna Intenso. A bit like Bottega Veneta pour Homme by the same nose, it brings that traditional concept of “smelling nice and quality just for the intimate sake of it” to a more contemporary level. You can find discounted bottles of this everywhere, grab it if you stumble upon one.

a very solid release
I read many comparisons between this and the original Armani Code and since I don't have Armani Code I decided to buy considering the low price tag however, it is in fact similar to Armani Code Colonia, perhaps safer and not as creamy.

Zegna intenso is a great bang for the money, I thought it disappeared around the 4 or 5 hour mark because I could no longer smell it on myself however, yesterday my girfriend got home and told me it was still going strong and I had applied over 8 hours before that so perhaps I got some fatigue and could no longer get whiffs

Overall Intenso is a very inoffensive fragrance (as mention by reviewers below) ideal for office wear and casual scenarios, I wouldn't use it that much for night event but if you want something safe for a night out then by all means feel free to spray this on yourself, you can be liberal with the sprays since there are no annoying or "offensive" notes.

This is a very safe purchase however test it and see if it's good for you.

Safe choice for office
Intenso is better than Colonia, but nothing new.

It's a cedar based scent, with some spices added and a touch of vetiver.

Clearly inspired by Code, weaker than Code and also much cheaper.

It's subtle and inoffensive, good for office.

Sillage, lasting power and projection are below average.

Armani Code for Adults, or Daniela, Shame on You the 2nd!
In the past, we could already suspect that Daniela Andrier has an affinity for reinterpreting well-known fragrances, and we must unfortunately conclude that this indeed seems to be true.
It is hard to explain otherwise that Ermenegildo Zegna's Intenso bears a suspicious resemblance to Armani's flagship "Armani Code"...

"Intenso" hides behind 2 facets, which "Ermenegildo Zegna" describes as a light-dark principle.
(On the flacon, this idea can already be seen in the horizontally running light and dark lines.)
Light represents the radiant freshness in the opening, which is expressed through mandarin, lemon, cardamom, and pepper.
The dark facet, on the other hand, is supposed to make the fragrance more intense. This is primarily created by oriental notes such as (among others) vanilla, tonka bean, and amber.

All of this is very well done. The fragrance indeed starts off fresh and then, as promised, becomes warmer and more intense after a while.
A distinctly noticeable vetiver, cedar, and musk component makes the scent significantly more masculine than its black brother. While Code desperately tries to maintain its masculinity through its very low tobacco, guaiac wood, and leather content, Zegna's Intenso has achieved this much better through a change in the base notes (without coming off as overly masculine).

Despite the close relationship to Armani's Code, one finds here a well-executed offshoot that simply comes across as much more serious and mature than its counterpart.
The headline "Daniela, Shame on You" should therefore not be taken too literally.
Ms. Andrier has indeed managed to give a well-known and already very good fragrance a new and slightly altered face, and I find that to be a very nice way of doing it.
However, who prefers this new face is something everyone must decide for themselves.
The longevity is good, which already represents an improvement over Armani's Code.

So, if "Code" comes across as too commercial / too well-known, or perhaps too "slick / gigolo-like," one could certainly give "Intenso" a chance without necessarily being disappointed...

When will it be winter again…
I was born in December, so I have a personal connection to the cold season: short days and long nights, biting cold, frost, snow, and ice. Breath appears in white clouds, ears and nose turn red, lips thickly smeared with lip balm, hands buried deep in the coat. When it’s really cracking and popping outside, you make yourself cozy and warm inside, comfortable and snug. The best moments are the ones of silence when all work is done and you know that no one will disturb you now. Candlelight (if possible, even a fireplace or stove), a warm blanket, thick slippers on your feet, a hot water bottle on your back, and then up on the couch or in a comfy armchair. Add dim lighting, relaxed (preferably classical) music, cookies and cocoa or punch, and a good book. Close your eyes, dream a little, take a deep breath, and let the pleasant warmth flow through your body. If you then imagine snow, ice, and cold creeping around the house trying to grab you, those moments become twice as beautiful. Let a little shiver run down your back and wrap yourself up even thicker. Wonderful.

For many, winter scent means vanilla and honey, almond or rum, and indeed such treasures belong in the cold season and in a well-stocked fragrance shelf. But there are other winter scents, and Zegna Intenso is one of them. The fragrance is not a gourmand, but it beautifully combines warmth, comfort, coziness, and harmony in a way that you would expect from a winter cuddle scent.

Zegna Intenso is mentioned in the same breath as Armani Code, a comparison I can definitely agree with. Both fragrances are similar and share the same intention, namely to convey cozy warmth.
Armani Code is a bit more mainstream, but in terms of quality, sillage, and longevity, it is in no way superior to Intenso. When encountering both fragrances at the same time, you can notice a difference. Over the course of the day, this impression fades, and both blend into each other.

Of course, Zegna Intenso is not a scent ONLY for one’s own comfort. I often get asked about it (mostly by ladies), because very few noses dislike it. Intenso does not have a pronounced scent theme or anything dominating; rather, it carries its overall concept throughout the day. I could not detect a scent progression. With 7 hours of good perceptibility, the fragrance is in the good middle range, and a spritz on top extends it by another 6 to 8 hours. The sillage is good, but could be a bit overwhelming at the beginning with a higher dosage, though it doesn’t hurt.

I’m happy to own both fragrances and can’t say which one I would prefer. Both are somewhat similar, yet also quite different. It seems that I will wear one under the wool blanket on the couch and the other on the bear rug in front of the fireplace.

I wish everyone a cozy warm image in their heads now, with a little shiver down the back at the end :-)?

Tonka-spiced mix. It wants to be Armani Code, but doesn't quite achieve it. Overall, boring.

It leans heavily towards Code. Not a 1:1 copy, but if you like Code, you'll like this one too. A go-to for the colder months.

Delicious. A charming all-rounder that smells fresh, aromatic, and beautifully sweet with tonka, vanilla, and musk. Nice spice.

New bottle instead of discontinued scent? I'm excited, hopefully it hasn't changed too much. Incredible compliment getter for me.

Mandarin and tonka bean clearly dominate this scent. It reminds me more of Code Ultimate than the original. Wearable for young and old.

Sweet-spicy everyday scent with a light freshness. A great fragrance for young people. Unfortunately, it fades away too quickly.

It doesn't blow me away at all. Intense is sadly not a thing here. As an everyday scent for a quick spritz, it's totally fine.
