Summer In A Bottle
This is a gorgeous fragrance with the divine pairing of bergamot and neroli. And it's the sheer quality of the ingredients that is impressive. The bergamot smells like it has been freshly squeezed into the bottle coupled with the beautiful neroli.

It's a light fragrance but not too light with about average projection. I've been out and about wearing this and have been surrounded in a beautiful haze of bergamot and neroli, very beautiful.

After about ninety minutes the bergamot dissipates and the neroli becomes more sensual. It's so well blended that I cannot until the drydown detect any other notes from the neroli that now dominates.

After another hour I can start to smell woods, moss and musk though the lovely neroli still dominates. The scent though does reign itself in after this on the projection front but I can still smell it.

All in all a very beautiful light fragrance that perfectly suits the Spring/Summer months. The neroli does have extra depth but is so well blended with other notes to pin point exactly how. I'm thinking it's the jasmine that is giving it that sensual aspect but this is subjective.

The presentation is great as well with the box and bottle, this is my first fragrance with a magnetic cap. All in all a thumbs up from me. Lovely!

Mediterranean Cologne
In a St. Gallen department store, I found this Mediterranean Neroli in the bargain bin, and I didn't have to think twice. I had briefly tried it before; it's one of the better ones in the Essenze line. A tester was also available, and with that, it completely convinced me. By now, I find it really good, although on its own on the skin, it is a bit thin. When applied to both skin AND fabric, it appears much denser. That can sometimes make all the difference.

Some of Zegna's Essenze(s) have a somewhat artificial quality in the base, which is why I don't exactly burst into joy over them. This is a trend that is no longer reversible even in the (price-wise) upscale perfumery. This is partly due to the new IFRA guidelines, but ultimately, that doesn't always have to mean a loss of quality. There are many brands that consciously play with molecular magic (Escentric Molecules, Pierre Guillaume, Comme des Garçons, etc.) and can still be convincing. Med. Neroli, on the other hand, is very traditional and naturalistic. It's remarkable how the unknown perfumer has managed to create such a fine and unobtrusive portrayal of Mediterranean landscape(s).

At the center is clearly Neroli, the blossom of the bitter orange tree. The bitter orange blossom is more robust, less sweet and lovely than the blossom of the sweet orange. One gets the impression that Petitgrain (leaves of various citrus fruits) is also present and adds a green note. Rosemary, lavender, and mint also contribute to the image of herbaceous-green flowing plant juices. Among the citrus fruits, I particularly recognize bergamot, which fits perfectly into the bitter profile here. At this point, I realize: these are all ingredients that make up an Eau de Cologne. Indeed, Med. Neroli opens with a wonderful Cologne accord. Only, that Neroli is usually found more in the base of a Cologne (if one can speak of a base in such a fleeting pleasure), but here it is immediately present. Enhanced and juicy, possibly accentuated by the mentioned Petitgrain.

For me, Med. Neroli remains a very potent Eau de Cologne throughout its development, with its individual components gaining depth through fine balancing. It feels as if the fragrance materials complement each other ideally here; they are in discourse with one another. Harmony - and yet the individual parts remain recognizable. What makes this "Cologne" a Mediterranean experience is the skillful integration of lavender and cypress, the latter evoking a gentle image of a Tuscan landscape with soft hills and cypress or pine groves.

I cannot quite grasp the base mentioned in the pyramid. Once again. I do not register Ambroxan, which usually irritates me reliably. Musk sounds plausible at best, although it may amplify the described scent profile - making the fragrance appear larger. However, in my opinion, trying to recognize a true base in Med. Neroli is futile. The scent development stops with the heart phase, and that works for me, as the longevity is really good for such a light perfume (EdT), lasting on my skin for at least 7 hours.

Overall, a successful interpretation of Neroli, modern in its simplicity and at the same time wonderfully familiar with its Cologne references.

The Cologne variant from Zegna: slightly richer orchestrated than most colognes in this style with a subtly art-wood base.

Exciting neroli interpretation, rhubarb and lavender add depth through new facets, the base is slightly rough, a matter of taste.

Oranges sinking into fragrant lavender,
green bouquets of wild mint,
air filled with intoxicating jasmine.
Warm light on the horizon...

Dull green instead of citrus-fresh, I would say. Maybe a bit powdery and old-fashioned.

Better longevity and sillage than Neroli Portofino. Well done, but it can't compare to Neroli Canvas by Al Haramain...

A more modern, masculine 4711. Actually quite nice, but you really have to love Neroli!

Very tangy citrus, elegant, mature - yet modern. Citrus fruits sparkle. Refreshment with class on the hottest days of the year.
