You can't search for it, only find it...
...or something like that. There was this silly movie quote. I can't even remember which movie it was from. Star Wars? Lord of the Rings? Or something completely different? Anyway, that sentence has stuck with me.
Why is that? Because I often feel the same way about fragrances. Who doesn't know the endless sample orders, trying to work through long wish lists? And in the end, you've invested a lot, been excited multiple times, until the package finally arrives. Conclusion: In the end, there's still no scent that truly pleases.
A few years ago, the selection on the WWW wasn't as vast as it is today. I ordered a lot from Luckyscent in the States, as, for example, the above brand hadn't yet arrived in Germany. Online, the fragrances were all praised to the skies, and the descriptions sounded simply dreamy. Back then, I was quite fixated on everything that smelled sweet. I hadn't really found my direction yet. And of course, I tested Vaniglia del Madagascar, Chia, Cara, etc.
When the samples finally arrived, I found them all generally not bad, but MY scent was unfortunately not among them. Eventually, I let it go, went through another fragrance fatigue phase, and didn't order anything new for a while. Instead, I exchanged my samples with other nice people from the WWW and sent out decants of my fragrances. I don't even remember how I ended up with the sample of 450. Did it come from someone nice online or was the scent a bonus from a sample order? Anyway. I had found it! And that was only after I stopped searching, where we would be back to that silly movie quote. The perfect Farmacia scent for me! One spray and the feelings of happiness were there, with this delicate fragrance that does bring a bit of sweetness through the musk, but is still not a typical gourmand. Back then, I didn't know yet that I liked iris, incense, and also pepper. I only realized those preferences much later. If I had read the notes beforehand, I wouldn't have been interested in this scent at all.
450 is also one that you can wear anytime. It is so delicate and stays subtly in the background that it doesn't annoy or disturb anyone. Sometimes I need something with a bit more punch, and then I consciously choose against this softener. And in winter, I think, when it’s really icy cold, it doesn't quite fit either. The scent is always very close to the skin, but it lasts quite well. I can usually perceive it for about 6-7 hours, which I find acceptable.
For me, 450 is a ladies' version of Armanis Vétiver d'Hiver. A bit less vetiver and a bit more sweetness, but generally in the same direction. Here again, we have - simple and likeable :)
Both are also well-suited for unisex wear.
What do we learn from this? Less searching helps with quick finding? If only it were that simple :) :)
