Reappeared
Once again, I strolled through the mainstream temples just before Christmas, searching for something new from the non-niche corner, and lo and behold :) I always thought this Armani had been discontinued, so I was pleasantly surprised to see it on the shelf, even marked as "reduced."
In the past, when I was still heavily into mainstream fragrances, I really liked the regular Diamond a lot. Then, when I ventured into niche fragrances, this Diamond became just something nice, fresh, and shallow. However, the Black Carat had never disappeared; it only gained its allure for me when I thought of it as "discontinued." Of course, what you can't have is enticing. So, to cut a long story short, I immediately grabbed the tester and sprayed it on my arm and neck.
The beginning reminded me of the regular Diamond, but immediately a deeper and broader dimension emerged, taking Diamond as a springboard and diving into fresh dark realms. We have an intensified Diamond that never denies its origins but spins further into more powerful and weighty spheres. Here is a typical example of how I would have preferred the "Intense / black / extreme" flanker as the actual fragrance, in this case as Diamond. In my opinion, the Black Carat makes the regular Diamond redundant. The Black Carat is already beautifully designed for a mainstream fragrance. It cannot deny its gourmand touch, and now it is not just a purely sweet gourmand like so many we already know, but a versatile gourmand with woody and distinctly masculine traits.
Armani has also not skimped on the glamour factor. The Black Carat has a somewhat worldly note, even if it is only hinted at, as it leans too much towards the youthful and superficial, and one can clearly tell that the worldliness is merely pretended and is intentionally offered at a low price, a fact that one should be aware of while wearing it. The glamour factor is distinctly contrived.
The last paragraph is not meant to diminish the fragrance's overall impression. Armani has made an effort to give the perhaps youthful wearer a sense of quality and high value for little money. In any case, the fragrance is enjoyable due to its lightheartedness amidst all the gourmand sweetness.
The longevity is noticeably improved, even though it still has an Armani mainstream longevity that has never really worked for me, quite unlike the wonderful Privé fragrances.
Ps: The price of the fragrance was 35 euros / 50 ml.
