Chypre at its best
Since I discovered my great affection for chypre scents some time ago and always look out for special treasures, I have found them again this time. Givenchy III, which was published in 1970.
And it is a pleasure for me to be able to write a few sentences about a fragrance that has not yet been commented on.

Givenchy III was unknown to me a few weeks ago. But then a sample of the Vintage-EdTs came to me and I was very enthusiastic on the first sniff.
And as it always is, you want more... So I went in search of this scent in a larger quantity. And at a well-known online auction house I came across an unused Givenchy III extract. And at an incredibly low price, too.
If that wasn't a hint with a fence post... And a few days later, I held the treasure in my hands. Completely intact and nothing tilted, even if the perfume has certainly matured a little bit and has become a little darker than you can see here on pictures, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the fragrance.
I can't say when the extract I own came on the market. The bottle looks different from the pictures here. It's simple and straight, without any decoration, with the Givenchy logo with the four Gs only on the lid. And there was no mention of batch codes either.
But I don't think that's so important now either.

Has the EdT already inspired me, so I can say the Extrait is a real joy and an absolute scent jewel!
Givenchy III belongs to the group of classic chypre fragrances with a citric-green opening, floral heart and mossy base, enriched with the finest animal sequences to give the fragrance more spice, more body and more depth.

Givenchy III starts off herb green and a little brittle, you notice galbanum, aldehydes buzzing around, bergamot gives a certain effervescence. I can't make out peach Then follows quickly this incredibly dense floral abundance, it is difficult to identify individual notes, the elements are so artfully interwoven. But I think that Jasmine and Rose were a bit more cheeky. This flowery abundance is, however, free of any sweetness at any moment of the process I would rather call the floweriness fine and tart, adult and without frills.
In the base, which only reveals itself after quite a while, Givenchy III becomes even more delicious. This classic chypre base with tart oakmoss (the real one was still used here, you can easily tell), patchouli for that certain depth and in addition fine traces of ambergris and beaver's horny, which give the fragrance this fine spiciness and physicality.
This suddenly brings me to a comparison with Dioressence, which was published only a year earlier and is made up of roughly the same building blocks. In between they are very similar, but in Givenchy III this certain physicality is less pronounced in the base than in Dioressence. But this physicality must not be missing in this type of fragrance. Givenchy III is a little lighter and airier in my opinion, but is in no way inferior to Dioressence in terms of class.
The fragrance appears friendly and endearing at every stage of its evolution.
Spring is the right season, everything blossoms and shines again. In addition, this beautiful scent, which also blooms and shines.
After many hours the fragrance fades away softly and finely floral, this moment is one of the most beautiful and I can't get my nose away from the scented place.

Givenchy III was created in 1970 by Jean-François Latty, who created such great fragrances as Background for Jil Sander, Jazz for YSL, and Raymond Chaillan, who designed Anaïs Anaïs for Cacharel, Ho Hang for Balenciaga, Pour Homme for YSL and Quartz for Molyneux. So, very good references by all means.

The chypre theme was to remain present and popular for quite some time in the 70s, for example the Rive Gauche by Yves Saint Laurent, also published in 1970, which also skilfully embodies the chypre theme, 1971 No. 19 by Chanel, 1972 Diorella by Dior, 1974 Gucci N°1 by Gucci, 1975 Parure by Guerlain are further examples.
When I internalize these names and compare the scent compositions, I notice how unsweet and tart these scents appear. These scents seem downright masculine with our noses, views and habits of today. And I would like to say that this kind of scents also works very well for men Givenchy III has an excellent shelf life, after a good 10 hours the fragrance is still clearly perceptible. The projection is also very good for an extract, but does not kill, as the fragrance is not heavy overall. A fragrance that could still work well today, if the fragrance houses had the courage to break out of the familiar patterns, in addition to the modern and sometimes quite adapted fragrances.

It is a pity that such great fragrances have disappeared from the scene. But they live on through us fragrance lovers and vintage hunters and we cherish them Givenchy III gets the full score here from me, I have absolutely nothing to criticize about this fragrance.

My thanks go to Gold, who made it possible for me to get to know the EdT, and so I came across the Extrait, which I wouldn't want to miss anymore, even if it is not a huge amount, but 7 ml is better than nothing. And the fragrance is a real masterpiece!
