Lavender Summer
The sky is wide and of that incomparable velvety hue that announces the approaching evening; another hot summer day is thus slowly making itself ready for night.
The sun-warmed earth seems to stretch itself comfortably, humming with well-being.
This puts it in competition with the myriad insects that gather now with particular intensity: a contented hum is in the air.
It is also the time of the swallows: they are "training" this year's young for the flight south, always diligently accompanied by their bright chirping.
The circles and loops they draw in the sky grow more sure and elaborate by the day; the formerly squeaky voices of the swallows' children louder.
It will not be long before they are on the move: Swallows come late in the spring and leave early, almost late in the summer.
They are as reliable as sundials.
Nature sets up for the "blue hour": pine trees offer cicadas comfortable places for their "concerts", lavender fields sway gleefully in the light summer breeze.
How fortunate that the insects that frequent them, especially now, don't get seasick.
(Or do they and we just don't know it?)
At this time the earth breathes peace; the powdery breeze of iris settles over the hitherto vibrant day, muting it and inviting us to linger, to switch off.
Now the full fragrance of the numerous lavender plants also awakens: row and row fill them, reaching far into the horizon.
Not only their flower panicles are fragrant, but foliage and wood also give off that familiar, spicy aroma.
It comforts and caresses, embraces and spreads that tenderness that goes hand in hand with the waning of daylight.
Lavender spreads its soft dark purple and silver patterned blanket, woven by the caressing hands of "Mother Nature."
On this so inviting blanket, the little violet stretches out; does it also want to contribute in color and fragrance to the already existing beauty of this fragrance painting.
Sandalwood is here representative of the heavy spice of the earth; vanilla brings a warming creamy-white light jacket and awakens the senses at the same time.
Fragrance, texture, color and tones combine harmoniously and incomparably to create "Aqua Allegoria Lavande Velours," where once again the artistic and loving hand of Jean-Paul Guerlain can be felt.
Which unfortunately, like so many others, had to give way to newer creations: whether these are so much better / more beautiful, remains a secret of the house of Guerlain.
Sillage and durability of this fragrance fabric correspond to the duration of dusk:
Nothing is infinite! So why her?
Before the night spreads and covers everything protectively, it is the time for "Aqua Allegoria Lanvande Velours":
It is the time of the lavender summer!
