Shalimar Cologne 2015
If I was Thierry Wasser and people kept banging on about Mathilde Laurent's Eau Legere, Jean Paul Guerlain's assault on it, unfortunate names that suggested a diet Shalimar and now a discontinued Eau de Shalimar I would also restore the fragrance. He has been the 'Great Improver' and those of us who have benefited from his tweaks of MItsouko bow to his artistry. There are great specifics there from Mr Bon Vivant's review; cool iris and thyme made me my knees tremble. And I am indeed kicking myself for missing Eau Legere because I came late to Guerlain; the Dowagers in my family wore Caron, Chanel and very 'Green' fragrances that were the rage. Having tried Cologne today I knew I was undone. Love this and many will think it is a cross between Eau de Shalimar and Parfum Initial

Freesia Shalimar
Shalimar Cologne is not what I expected. I found it very reasonably priced and blind bought based on my love of Shalimar EDP, EDT, Eau de Cologne and SPI along with the reviews here calling this a citrusy vanilla pudding type scent.

What I smell most is a thick, slightly sweet powder mixed with a whole lot of freesia and indistinct floral notes. If you had the average person smell this and asked what it smelled like, they'd say either "soap" or "detergent" or "fabric softener." You'd hear adjectives like "warm, clean and soft." I see what they were going for here, this was clearly meant to be Guerlain's answer to Chanel's No5 Eau Premiere. And actually, in that regard it's very successful- it's a polished scent, powdery and slightly citric with musky florals along with a warmed vanillic powder. It's easy to wear, easy to like, and will rightfully appeal to a significant subset of consumers aside from just Guerlain diehards.

However for whatever reason, this is the only Shalimar I've tried that doesn't really appeal to me personally, probably because the hole this is supposed to fill in one's wardrobe is already occupied by Eau Premiere. Or it might be the freesia which I just can't get along with generally. I recommend you try before you buy as my perception of the scent deviated significantly from the majority of reviews I read before purchase.

Guerlain, I'm Out!
After testing the new "Shalimar Cologne," looking distressed and trying to put this into words, I unfortunately couldn't quite decide on a title. The options were:

"Shalimar, where art thou?"
"What ever happened to Baby Shalimar?"
"It's Shalimar, Bitch!"
"Come on, no way"
"The Rise and Fall of Shalimar Stardust"
"Hello, my name is Nett. I'm the little sister"
"A new Shalimar flanker? My God, we're all going to die!"
"From now on, it went downhill!"
"I spray it on every wall: new Shalimars are what the country needs!"
"Everything was better back then"

Especially with the last title option, I was deeply shocked by my own thoughts. Am I really that old to resort to such clichés? When I took a scrutinizing look in the mirror, I associated again with "My God, we're all going to die!" but decided that in this context, that's a different story...

The last 2 years at Guerlain have brought many changes. Several beloved fragrances have been discontinued, and many new scents have seen the white light of the sales tables where they are presented in stores. We have discussed this development extensively on Parfumo, and I can't shake the feeling that our faces are actually getting longer. Is Shalimar Cologne also such a disappointment? At least Shalimar Cologne is the successor to Eau de Shalimar, which represented a wonderful alternative to the original Shalimar for many.

The opening is beautifully citrusy fresh. Bergamot and lemon are very prominent. I like this a lot because it is light and very suitable for warmer temperatures. The Shalimar base structure is, as with Eau de Shalimar, quickly present in a subdued form. For a brief moment, one perceives the oriental smokiness, which is vanilla-like and even slightly amber-like to my nose. I also like this.
After this very short, still promising intro, however, it becomes modern. This means in this case for the house of Guerlain: it becomes sweet. Even sugary sweet. So sweet that the old unisex character of Eau de Shalimar has definitely disappeared. To what extent freesia and white musk as new components are involved, I cannot say. This sweetness remains very linear and has hardly any depth or base. The initially stronger sillage quickly diminishes and settles into a light, modern, quite sticky sweetness for about 4-5 hours. That's it.

Shalimar Cologne is a fundamentally well-made, but indeed modern perfume. Where Shalimar was still considered the Dietrich or Joan Crawford of perfumes, Shalimar Cologne is more like the skinny jeans girl or the Britney Bitch among the flankers. That's not enough for me. This also applies to Shalimar Souffle de Parfum, L'Homme Ideal, and L'Homme Ideal Cologne.
And since I no longer see myself represented as a target group, I'm out of Guerlain's modernity for the time being.

Powdery Lemon Gourmand
Two perfumes meet by chance in the supermarket. And as it should be, they start chatting and quickly land on the topic of fragrance. "Have you tested this one? What do you think of that one? There's something new coming from this brand soon, I'm so excited about it... etc." Suddenly, one pulls a sample from her bag, joyfully hands it to the other with the words: "You definitely haven't smelled this one yet," and so it was. Many thanks at this point, dear Mirabella.

Of course, I could hardly wait to test the scent and immediately sprayed it on the back of my hand to get at least a first impression. This made it clear to me that a full-body test had to follow soon. The scent starts off very lemony. A very authentic lemon that combines both the juicy component and the slight bitterness of the peel. Right from the start, a powdery component is also noticeable, reminding me of Parfum Initial. At least from that, it is immediately clear that this is a Guerlain. Since I quite liked Initial, I was sorry that it was discontinued and would have regretted it even more if the successor had turned out to be a completely different scent. The lemon quickly recedes a bit into the background but is still distinctly perceptible. The powdery component (probably the iris) gains strength and slightly transitions into the gourmand direction. However, I have the feeling that this is due to an additional, also slightly powdery note. Perhaps it is the vanilla, but I can't identify it exactly. The scent somewhat reminds me of lemon cheesecake, or as we both noted at the candy aisle, the filling of Ritter Sport Lemon-Buttermilk, but without being too synthetic-sweet. As the scent develops, both the lemon and the "cake note" subtly retreat into the background, giving space to the powdery perfume-initial component, but without the two scents becoming too similar. They still peek out from the back every now and then until the lemon quietly bids farewell, leaving behind only a pleasantly vanilla-powdery mixture. The sillage of the scent is moderate. I can clearly perceive it from my neck and arm, even when I'm not directly smelling it. How strongly it is perceivable to the environment, I cannot say. The longevity is moderate to good. After a few hours, the scent is very soft on the skin, which fits well with the name, although I only had the sample and therefore do not know if this is actually an Eau de Cologne or just a play on words.

Shalimar Cologne is, as the name suggests, a light scent for the warmer days, but without being trivial 0815-lemony. The family affiliation is clearly recognizable, although the scent has hardly anything in common with its great-grandmother. A modern interpretation that will surely find its followers for the summer. Anyone who liked Parfum Initial and is not averse to the gourmand direction should definitely test this one.

Vanilla Clouds
I chased this perfume for so long, it's unbelievable. It was always sold out just when I wanted to order it. On this Parfumo image, it looks so pretty in pink. In reality, it is more clear.
I had ordered it in France, but this particular scent was canceled. Now it is available super cheap! in a discount online shop in Germany. A few days ago, I only ordered one bottle.
Today, I ordered two more bottles because I love, love, love it. What can I say, it’s great.

It starts off very refreshing with bitter bergamot and grapefruit; I find the lemon more in the background, but it is initially very citrusy. Great and modern. The classic Shalimar has those same "lemon notes."
You can already smell a bit of jasmine and vanilla here. If you know the Souffle, it is exactly this jasmine and vanilla.
I don't smell freesia and iris, and rose is only faintly detectable alongside white musk.
I smell soft and warm lightly floral vanilla. At first, I thought the scent might be too weak, but that is absolutely not true. Even after showering, the vanilla was still noticeable on the skin.
I find it truly beautiful and a more modern version of the Eau de Shalimar EDT, which has been discontinued, with an even more beautiful vanilla for me.
The scent fits now with spring-like temperatures, just as well as in summer, autumn, and winter.
For winter evenings, I would probably use the original Shalimar variant. However, I find the Shalimar DNA is also well recognizable in this scent. Especially if you like the Souffle, this one is a must.

It's okay, but it's not an alternative to Eau De Shalimar. It's close to the usual designer style. Nevertheless, 8 points worth for me.

Take freshly squeezed citrus fruits, powdery iris root, and the lovely Guerlain vanilla.
For me, the most beautiful Shalimar.

Everyone raves about the Guerlain vanilla, but it's the Guerlain lemon that really excites me! Shalimar, but perfect for summer!

Soft lemon powder with a hint of smoky Shalimar vanilla. More delicate, slightly sweet musk than oriental. Eau de Shalimar is nicer. Nice.

Smells like a fluffy lemon roll. A lady wears a hint of Shalimar vanilla on her skin + enjoys her cake at the street café.
