Soapy Iris
This extrait is making me second guess my love for iris. I love the use of iris in fragrances like Dior Homme and Shalimar Millesime Iris, but this one goes in a far different direction than those do. Where those are syrupy, powdery and very dense, this iris is very light, soapy and almost fresh. There is still a powdery facet to it but in a bit more of a dated sense than the aforementioned fragrances. I liken the scent of iris within this extrait to the dry down of L'Heure Bleue, which is spicier, soapy and highly powdery. While it certainly hasn't impressed me in the same regard as the others, I do think it's a great example of how different species of certain ingredients can smell drastically different, and how a perfumer can render certain molecules in a certain way that also changes the way they smell. Comparing this to other iris-based fragrances has definitely helped expand my knowledge of the note, but I can't say I prefer this over the others.
I wouldn't say that I'm disappointed or upset about this extrait, but I was definitely expecting something different than I got. For the price, I wouldn't say that this fragrance is worth it, especially when compared to other iris fragrances by Guerlain and otherwise that are, in my eyes, more unique. I am however, still elated to have been able to experience this extrait given it's exclusivity!
